A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!
funny / sad / uplifting / depressing / dance anthem?

Appreciate this may not be in the spirit of the thread - but I wouldn't. I'm definitely going to let my DC do my funeral. I've been to a couple of funerals recently where the dead person pre-chose lots of aspects of their own funeral and I'm not convinced that it is a good idea.

A funeral is the opportunity for the living to grieve the dead. If it is all pre-arranged by the now dead person, then that is not what happens - in my opinion. So, I'm going to let my DC choose whatever they think I would like. If their choices are horrific, I won't know! But I presume it will bring them some kind of relief / satisfaction / pleasure to have chosen them for me.

The lark ascending by Vaughan Williams, a moving piece of music,

“Jesu joy of man’s desiring” played on the organ by DC1.
Same as my father’s funeral.

Men-an-tol by the Levellers

BiddyPopthe2nd · 29/09/2026 13:04

I want the sung Our Father in Irish or else the folk version, not the formal version
Eagle’s Wings for psalm (with harmony)
Be not afraid (with harmony)
possibly Panus Angelicus as 1 at communion, although more likely One bread, One body

Bat out of Hell as I leave the church - although I could soften that to Spirit in the Sky if absolutely necessary

Siberianskies · 29/09/2026 13:05

Not having one, but if I did, it would be something to make everyone laugh like Highway To Hell or Another One Bites The Dust.

The Willows - Absent Friends

It's a really sweet folk song remembering friends who are no longer here with a smile. It is well worth a listen if you aren't familiar!

Number One Song In Heaven by Sparks. My favourite band.

Greebosmum · 29/09/2026 13:09

I went to a brilliant funeral (if you can imagine such a thing) where the coffin was carried in to Born to Raise Hell. My dh wants Highway to Hell, I am going to plump for Should I Stay or Should I Go by the Clash.

There She Goes by The Las and Temporary by Slaid Cleaves.

Counter to letting others decide - my dad wished my mum had given more as a steer as it would have made planning easier. As it was we had Bridge Over Troubled Water as an easy choice, and then quite a lot of me saying to my brother ‘yes I know she like The Beautiful South but have you actually listened to the words of that song?’

OrdinaryGingerBloke · 29/09/2026 13:11

I have an acoustic version of There She Goes by the La’s on my list for the committal. Everyone leave to Together in Electric Dreams.

I'd like Morning has Broken, the Cat Stevens version. Played at my wedding as well.

Agree with this completely. My mum died last year and we only had a couple of weeks with her at end of life. I think between my brother and I we did what we thought encompassed our mum well. Including, Thank you for the music, ABBA and Happy Birthday, Stevie Wonder as her funeral was her birthday too.

DontCallMeBaby · 29/09/2026 13:15

Also either the Warhorse version or just the first two verses of Only Remembered. I’m an atheist but it’s an oddly secular hymn until the last verse.
