A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!

This is outing for anyone who knows me but Last Christmas, no matter the time of year!!🤣

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/09/2026 21:57

Send me on my way by rusted root, I love that song.

Also I’m waiting for you by Johnny Flynn.

Lifepolicy · 29/09/2026 23:07

Loving these songs! I’ve made myself a new playlist and I’m going to make my way through them as I haven’t heard of half of the songs mentioned.

i recently planned everything for my dads funeral. It was a cathartic experience but also quite stressful choosing the songs and getting the eulogy right. I hope I did him proud.

i would definitely like to give my DH an idea of what I’d like, but it would be totally up to him in the end.

I want to go out to Copacabana as it reminds me of a very happy period of my life (yes I know I won't be there to enjoy it!)

My Nan had 'Is this the way to Amarillo?' 😂

Gallusoldbesom · 29/09/2026 23:20

The Circle Game, Joni Mitchell and Going Underground, the Jam

Champions theme by Carl Davies. With the horse galloping on the skyline in the opening credits of the film playing on a big screen.

Please could I come to your funeral?

Xcellently · 29/09/2026 23:39

Born to be Wild.

dustabsorber · 29/09/2026 23:41

I would like to disappear into the incinerator to the lone ranger theme tune.

dustabsorber · 29/09/2026 23:42

Hi oh silver away, and I am off to the next world. Hopefully.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2026 23:45

I literally only have one rule for my funeral.

NO FUCKING COLDPLAY

Ooh if my kids decide to hold a funeral, I want
Just Breathe by Pearl Jam
Wish you were here by Pink Floyd
and Eulogy by Frank Turner

I'm so having Eulogy at mine too. Can't say it any better than Frank. At least I fucking tried. Indeed.

HappyHappyDayToday · 30/09/2026 00:08

Be Still, My Soul.

My favourite song at all times, but there are no better songs for a funeral!

Appreciate this may not be in the spirit of the thread - but I wouldn't. I'm definitely going to let my DC do my funeral. I've been to a couple of funerals recently where the dead person pre-chose lots of aspects of their own funeral and I'm not convinced that it is a good idea.

A funeral is the opportunity for the living to grieve the dead. If it is all pre-arranged by the now dead person, then that is not what happens - in my opinion. So, I'm going to let my DC choose whatever they think I would like. If their choices are horrific, I won't know! But I presume it will bring them some kind of relief / satisfaction / pleasure to have chosen them for me.

I agree with this to an extent.

My aunt planned her own funeral down to the food and drink. She choose a song that she and her husband loved as one of the music pieces and he can no longer listen to it.

I have a document that has basics in it so that whoever is organising my funeral isn’t constantly wondering what I would want. So not fussed about cremation or burial, be as small or large as you like, and then a list of 10/15 songs that I particularly like (with the reasons where applicable).

If I was organising my own I’d have When it’s Time by Greenday

davidraker · 30/09/2026 00:25

The Liquidator by Harry J Allstars.
I’m from a footballing family and this music is very recognisable to a lot of football fans and would bring a smile to faces. Hopefully no one would do the rude chant! 😂

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 30/09/2026 01:05

I can see clearly now by Johnny Cash.

maxslice · 30/09/2026 03:47

A friend of mine had “What a Wonderful World” played at her memorial service. It was lovely and very in character.

IwishIwasinAlykanas · 30/09/2026 03:51

My Mum chose in my life by the Beatles t for her funeral. I think I'd like the same. And under the bridge by the red hot chilli peppers.

My husband has chosen “Happy Trails to You”.

I used to be a florist, and remember a young family coming in whose mum had died of cancer. They were taking great care and pride in following her instructions. It stayed with me.
