A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!
funny / sad / uplifting / depressing / dance anthem?

Bittersweet symphony by the Verve
time to say Goodbye by Andreas Bocelli and Sarah brightman

We had time to say goodbye at my grandads funeral (chosen by him). Also by Andreas Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.
I genuinely struggle to listen to that song now and I used to love it. Thanks grandad!!😂

Won't be having a funeral, a few in my family decided the same no funeral, but if I did I'd have drops of Jupiter and bridge over troubled water.

I love the drops of jupiter song. I haven't heard it for years.

My dad was a huge Madness fan. Had One step Beyond at his funeral!

I like it !!

I’ve left a list to choose from. My son’s comment when he saw it was “You’re such an old hippy, Mum!”. He’s not wrong. All three of yours are on my list @Crikeyalmighty.

Ha so true, that’s what comes of working in heritage music - I’ve got a long list — my H would pick Crosby stills and Nash - our house and Floyd comfortably numb ( rather ironic)

Grantchester Meadows is on mine. I suspect that will make the final cut.

You can't always get what you want by the Stones, sums up my life really and it's got a choir in it too!

NaiceEagle · 01/10/2026 18:20

Thank you for this post. Isn't there some fantastic music available (for any occasion).
I'd choose 'All My Tears' by one of (family could choose and I'd ask first if that's okay. . will ask, soon!) Ane Brum; Julie Miller; Hade Bluegrass Orchestra; Emmylou Harris; The Petersons; The SelahVideos or ResurrectionChurch WA.
I am forgiven. I love covers of songs :)

Smoothiegirl · 01/10/2026 22:43

@squashyhat I'm blown away by each of your funeral song choices as these tracks would be mine too!!

The service is only 30 minutes long!

Not mine. And this is only the entrance. it's going to be hours. Just incase anyone forgets something really important about me.

(OK, but really...)

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 02/10/2026 04:43

At the end of my funeral service, "Pop Goes The Weasel" will get played and at the very end, a fishing line will open up the top part of my casket. Smelling salts will be provided.

I'm kidding!

It's going to play, "I Think We're Alone Now". And when the song gets to the part, "The beating of my heart is the only sound" A rhythmic sound at sixty thumps a minutes will come from the inside of the casket and the casket will shake.

I'm kidding! Probably.

Aw - I had this for my Dad’s funeral, but played by Royal Scots Dragoon Guards - he was in the Scots Greys way back in National Service.
It actually left me with quite a liking for pipes and drums, and I listen to quite a lot of it now, but I definitely associate this particular one with my Dad of course and it’s hard to listen to unless there’s a reason and a glass.

Edited

If time is not a consideration I want lots of weeping and wailing, everyone in black, lots of eulogies …

It might be the same! I rang my parents' surgery (200 miles away) trying to sort something out for my dad, and got exactly the same music as I get at home.

’No one is alone’ from Into the Woods.

Not necessarily. My DH's ceremony (April of this year) was just under an hour long, as was my mother's just three months later in July. Both cremations in different crematoria.

It may cost a bit extra, but you can have the time if you ask for it in advance.

samlovesdilys · 02/10/2026 13:55

I have a few - halo by beyonce
green day time of my life
the fray how to save a life
all on with my husband, but if it’s my DSs they will probably choose something wildly inappropriate such as ‘it’s getting hot in here’!!
