A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!
funny / sad / uplifting / depressing / dance anthem?

I quite fancy always look on the bright side of life, and ding dong the witch is dead.
But my husband is quite dull and said no.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 29/09/2026 15:38

I've asked my kids not to have a funeral but to have a big party once I'm gone. If they want to remember me they can play 'No More Heroes' by The Stranglers at full volume.

I will appreciate it from the other side!

Same here! As in favourite band, but I am going to have All That.

I’ve never heard of this song until now - I’ve just added to my Spotify favorites 🤗 [deep dives into Sparks back catalogue)

The Masterplan and Stop Crying Your Heart Out - Oasis.

Appreciate this may not be in the spirit of the thread - but I wouldn't. I'm definitely going to let my DC do my funeral. I've been to a couple of funerals recently where the dead person pre-chose lots of aspects of their own funeral and I'm not convinced that it is a good idea.

A funeral is the opportunity for the living to grieve the dead. If it is all pre-arranged by the now dead person, then that is not what happens - in my opinion. So, I'm going to let my DC choose whatever they think I would like. If their choices are horrific, I won't know! But I presume it will bring them some kind of relief / satisfaction / pleasure to have chosen them for me.

Having to choose the music for my DP’s funeral was awful. They’ve just died, you’re really sad and then you’re expected to sit around and listen to and think about the most emotive music you can think of that epitomises them.

im pre choosing my music so my kids don’t need to go through that 😢

pinkishtongue · 29/09/2026 16:54

Broken halos by Chris Stapleton, Pictures of you by the Cure (although it’s quite lengthy) and probably something by Arctic monkeys

DustyMaiden · 29/09/2026 16:57

Lenard Cohen , you want it darker and hallelujah. I don’t care if my family should choose they have made me listen to things I don’t want to all of my or their lives.

FindingMeno · 29/09/2026 17:00

I hope nothing and I'm shunted off as cheaply as possible!

If I were to have a Catholic mass, they’re very strict about the music so I’d have all my Latin faves

Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod)
Panis Angelicus
Pie Jesu

and maybe Be Not Afraid for entry and Going Home for the recessional.

Epoisses · 29/09/2026 17:22

I'm not having a service.
But I like Disturb's version of Sound of silence

ProfessorofDarkArts · 29/09/2026 17:30

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day
Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea by Passenger.

I found it quite comforting picking music for my Dad's, it felt like one last thing I could do for him - we ended up with Streets of London by Ralph McTell as he was a true Cockney.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 29/09/2026 17:30

Dreams (Cranberries), Who Knows Where the Time Goes? (Fairport Convention) and Champagne Supernova (Oasis).

seagullsandbeachhuts · 29/09/2026 17:31

Some lovely ideas here. At a family funeral, 'So Far Away' by Carole King was played, which still makes me cry when I hear it. My choice would be 'Carry You' by Tim Minchin, which I first encountered as part of a choir. Another song which makes me cry every time 😥

stopwindingeachotherup · 29/09/2026 17:34

They change but for these have stood for a while

Calaban's Dream - Underworld
Carry You - Tim Minchin
Send me on my way - Rusted Roots
Never Forget you - the Noisettes
Enjoy yourself
