A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!
funny / sad / uplifting / depressing / dance anthem?

I’ll See You In My Dreams (Joe Brown sang it as the closing song in the Concert for George). A beautiful little song.

MaddestGranny · 30/09/2026 22:43

.. amongst others, the Berceuse from The Dolly Suite by Gabriel Fauré.

People of my vintage will know it, as I do, as "The Sleeping Music" from Listen With Mother.

Kickinthenostalgia · 30/09/2026 22:54

Oh I have a list… we are a Very dark humoured family, it’s come up plenty of times. I’ve made it very clear I don’t want the usuals. I’ve also said I don’t want people wearing black, I hate black clothing, I think it’s damn right boring aswell.
my list is…
In the end - linkin park
bring me to life - evanescence
somebody that I used to know - goyte
bury a friend - billie eilish
and right at the end
every breath you take - the police

To be honest they should just put on my perfectly curated Spotify playlist that I’ve been adding to for years. I definitely want A Little Soul by Pulp at some point and also Something Changed because that was my wedding song and it’s simply a certified banger, but I think my playlist is a good overall reflection of my taste over time.

They should lower my coffin to Silver Springs for dramatic effect, I would love that.

Perhaps no N-Dubz during the actual funeral service in the church but N-Dubz at the afters is a must… well it’s a wake, not an afters but still they’re essentially the same thing.

I would like Dido's lament from Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas', otherwise known as 'When I am laid in Earth' or 'Remember me'. Alison Moyet did quite a good version in 2004. I don't think my family would like it though, I think they would think it too morbid. It is just a song that I love.

It is very good but I think the Annie Lennox version (2021?) is even better, absolutely sublime. I’d forgotten about it but will now add to my funeral playlist.

I'd pick

Sound of Silence - Disturbed version

Alice - Avril Lavigne (it's been an anthem of mine for a good few years so very "me")

That version of Sound of Silence is phenomenal

When I had aggressive breast cancer at 50 I decided I wanted ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol played at my funeral. I didn’t tell anyone.13 years later it was the first song at my wedding. My new husband picked it but hadn’t known about the funeral song, after we had a great time at a Snow Patrol concert. As a footnote Gary Lightbody is from my home town and I see him often walking about.

Many years ago I was planning my very poorly 2yr old son's funeral in anticipation of what all the medics kept telling us. I wanted to have it sorted sotgat if the time came, I could spend every moment concentrating on him. Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars was one of the sons I chose.

Very, very fortunately I didnt have to use it and he's now 21yrs old. To this day, hearing that song brings me to tears. I love it, I feel it but it takes me back .

The lark ascending by Vaughan Williams, a moving piece of music,

My mum had chosen this for hers and it was perfect. For me I’ve chosen ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen as everyone leaves the service room.
(As an aside, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer it focussed me to get my will written and also my funeral wishes. I found it empowering knowing both were/remain taken care of. I don’t have children).

Do not stand at my grave and weep by Libera. Beautiful song

Etiennethemad · 30/09/2026 23:38

For my wife's funeral I chose the 2nd movement of the Weber clarinet concerto. I still get weepy when I listen to it.

Nat6999 · 30/09/2026 23:39

I don't want a funeral, I've told ds to get my money spent & let the council chuck me on the local tip.
