A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!
funny / sad / uplifting / depressing / dance anthem?

Thank you for the days

Great choice

Crikeyalmighty · 30/09/2026 23:53

My personal choices are

The Beatles- in my life
The Kinks- Days
Both sides now- Joni Mitchell

IZ’s version of Somewhere over the rainbow and Springsteen’s Thunder Road are 2 pieces I have asked family to include if they feel inclined. A friend who died in December a few years ago left instructions to have everyone leave the service to It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas

BIossomtoes · 01/10/2026 00:07

I’ve left a list to choose from. My son’s comment when he saw it was “You’re such an old hippy, Mum!”. He’s not wrong. All three of yours are on my list @Crikeyalmighty.

I want to be carried in to Welcome to the Black Parade, (instrumental version, played by a string quartet). Then out to Galloping Home, (otherwise known as the theme to Black Beauty).

thesongsoflife · 01/10/2026 00:27

My DH had asked for Come on Baby Light My Fire as he was carried in and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes as people left. I honoured his request as it reflected his sense of humour and made people smile.

I'm not really bothered, but Louis Armstrong What a Wonderful World was no 1 when I was born, so that seems right.

James is my favourite band, so maybe We're Going To Miss You When You're Gone (which I also had on my mum's playlist) or All I'm Saying (not Moving On, which is more usual for funerals, because I had it played at my dad's - other than that one he told us what to play, which was Dirty Old Town; Always on my Mind - Pet Shop Boys, not Elvis; The Internationale and The Red Flag. His was odd because it was in covid so only me and mum went to the crem and we had Dixie music play him in and The Red Flag for the internment, the rest were at the online funeral with The Red Flag replayed).

For my mum's I had Bruce Springsteen Tougher Than The Rest (a year before she died she suddenly disclosed a lifelong adulation of Bruce, which none of us knew about, and when she was dying she refused to talk about it because she knew why we were trying to get her to - in the end, she said that one was her favourite, and was quite fitting) and I am Woman by Helen Reddy. My sister then had two, of which one was Bread and Roses, the other some tedious classical thing, and we then had a playlist during the.....what do you call it.....party, after?

Won't be having a funeral, a few in my family decided the same no funeral, but if I did I'd have drops of Jupiter and bridge over troubled water.

Bossie21 · 01/10/2026 07:35

My dad was a huge Madness fan. Had One step Beyond at his funeral!

Many years ago I was planning my very poorly 2yr old son's funeral in anticipation of what all the medics kept telling us. I wanted to have it sorted sotgat if the time came, I could spend every moment concentrating on him. Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars was one of the sons I chose.

Very, very fortunately I didnt have to use it and he's now 21yrs old. To this day, hearing that song brings me to tears. I love it, I feel it but it takes me back .

I’m so glad this song didn’t get used yet again. ❤️

Toohot2trot · 01/10/2026 08:15

Mine are, I can see clearly now by Jimmy Cliff and the highway man by The Highwaymen, so they'll know I'll be back!

Auldruthie · 01/10/2026 09:46

I love your dad's taste!

Another vote for The Lark Ascending. It kind of calls to mind the soul rising to heaven.

thisismeithinkorisit · 01/10/2026 11:26

Didos Lament is stunning. I've heard it before in stuff, but never really listened to it. Adding it to my funeral play list

FluffyBoots · 01/10/2026 12:03

Manzana · 29/09/2026 12:41

The lark ascending by Vaughan Williams, a moving piece of music,

Hey! Me too! Specifically for the arrival. Also it's 15 minutes and people will have to be quiet!! (oops)!!
