Does anyone else not own a hair dryer?

Just reading the thread about the house seller wondering what to wear when doing viewings. She mentioned having wet hair and some PP are commenting on this. This led me to wonder about how many people are like me and have never owned a hairdrier. I’m 48. My mum had one when I was a child so it’s not as if I’ve never lived somewhere with one or had one used on my hair but as an adult I’ve just never seen the need for one. I don’t really like the way hair feels or smells after it’s been heat-dried.
Anyone else not own a hairdryer?
(p.s: I’m not even sure how to spell it 😂)

It seems that those of you who don't use a hairdryer either have very thick hair or curly hair, or both.

I have neither and my hair looks awful if I don't style it.

@Missj25 ours is 7 years old and never ices up. I think you have to look for one that is described as frost free then. Ours is a frost free fridge freezer.

I have hair that’s straight at the top, slightly curly but very uneven at the bottom (shoulder length) and frizzes easily. But never bothered with a hair dryers

Or and it’s not thick, not particularly fine either

No, mine is very fine and straight.

I swam almost daily in my teens. I just couldn't see the point of spending time drying it, so I never bothered.

Went swimming in the sea today. Popped back to my hotel room and showered (salty hair does go mad,) and went out again with wet hair. In today's sun, it dried in about 20 minutes.

Ooh!

Yes I realised that a good fast blast with a hair dryer does indeed blows out the dust from radiators. But I’d be lost without a hairdryer in fact I own three. One for travelling and a spare Dyson as I bought a new Dyson after owning one for 8 yrs and would panic if it died on me. But some people really can do without a hairdryer , nothing wrong with that .

I don’t have one but I do have a hot brush. My hair is really thick and has a natural beach wave blow drying will just fry my hair

DoveOfPiss · 25/09/2026 20:07

I haven't got one either. Nor an iron (or ironing board)!

I have waist long hair and it would've taken forever to dry them naturally and there is no way I would go to bed with wet hair or do this in the winter (I hate cold/being cold).

Oh very good , Thankyou for tip 🙌

I do the same with a big baking dish and boiling water. Big dish then comes in handy for collecting the large ice slabs that slide off

No, because I have very curly hair and a hairdryer would make it abominably frizzy!

Yep. I once had mine cut in Russia, and they blow dried and brushed it out, it was like a massive ball of frizz. I was too nervous to try and argue with them, so I left and immediately went into a public toilet and wet it all down! But Russian babushkas definitely believe that going out with wet hair will be the death of you (to be fair when it's -20 wet hair will freeze).

ExpertlyDecluttering · 26/09/2026 21:20

We have a frost free freezer now but a lasagne dish of boiling water was far more effective than a hairdryer on our old one.

I own one, but it's the same one I bought when I went to uni in 1996. Only my DD13 uses it. I used that and straighteners, until I prepared to go backpacking in 2003 and realised I couldn't take them and I couldn't reliably find sockets. So I let it airdry, and realised that rather than being frizzy it makes lovely ringletty curls if I airdry it. I've never gone back to using tools on it.
