Does anyone else not own a hair dryer?

Just reading the thread about the house seller wondering what to wear when doing viewings. She mentioned having wet hair and some PP are commenting on this. This led me to wonder about how many people are like me and have never owned a hairdrier. I’m 48. My mum had one when I was a child so it’s not as if I’ve never lived somewhere with one or had one used on my hair but as an adult I’ve just never seen the need for one. I don’t really like the way hair feels or smells after it’s been heat-dried.
Anyone else not own a hairdryer?
(p.s: I’m not even sure how to spell it 😂)

I don't how it would work without a hair dryer. Would I go to work with still wet unstyled hair? In the summer when not at work I leave it to dry but it always looks unkempt

I don’t style mine, just brush it wet and leave the house

RaininSummer · 24/09/2026 21:02

If I just brush it wet it would be all pouffy and witchy when it dried. I don't do much to it but drying it smooths it down.

LHP118 · 24/09/2026 21:13

I didn't for over 25 years. I've bought a low heat hairdryer to set my curls and I never knew that was the way I should have treated it! My mother never understood curly hair and brushed it straight!

Mine is a pile of loose curls once I’ve towel dried it. I use a wide toothed comb to straighten them out & by the time I get to work it’s dry & wavy.

AvengingAngle · 24/09/2026 21:17

No, I don't. I had one for a while about 15 years ago but I only used it once or twice. My hair doesn't respond well to heat styling.

7-10 days? I’ve got naturally curly hair and if
i don’t wash it every day it’s a total mess and I cant
get a comb through it !

Naturally curly hair here. I wash twice a week, put a curly product on it, let it air dry, and never ever comb or brush it. Don't even own a comb. My curls are much better since I stopped washing it every day.

Do those of you with no hairdryer no go out to work in the morning, or take kids to school? I wouldn't do either with wet hair. Mine takes about 4 hours to dry naturally.

I wash mine in the evening and put it in a bun overnight, it's dry by morning when I go to work. I don't wash it daily, it would get too dry - usually wash it Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

CoffeeandCakeBreak · 24/09/2026 21:21

I have one that is decades old, but it's in a drawer somewhere and never used.

It's far better for hair to let it dry naturally (Yes, I have long thick hair and it takes an hour or two to dry). Using hairdryers can damage your hair, indeed any heat treatment. I never use straighteners or anything like that. I also only wash my hair twice a week. Washing every day strips hair of the oils.

It does make a difference when you avoid these things that damage your hair. I have kept my long shiny thick hair this way. I see a lot of people who use heat treatments regularly the same age as me (45+) and they have very dry and damaged looking hair.

MondeoFan · 24/09/2026 21:22

I don’t I haven’t had one for about 25 years. My hair is fine and dries really quickly though

Advocodo · 24/09/2026 21:22

Have about x 5 hairdryers but haven’t use one for approx 5 years!

Apsidistra · 24/09/2026 21:23

Me! I don’t heat style my hair at all. Just wash and air dry it as naturally curly.

FancyKitten · 24/09/2026 21:24

Used to have one when I was younger & styled my long thick hair. Hair straighteners as well. My hair is fine & curly now, haven’t used a hairdryer in years (still have the same one in a drawer, must be 30 years old now…)

Wynter25 · 24/09/2026 21:27

Own one but hardly use it.

Sealedbidswoes · 24/09/2026 21:29

Amazed and slightly jealous of those that can get away with not even owning a hairdryer! I have very thick longish hair. Takes HOURS to dry. I washed it this morning at 8:30. At 1:30 I had to go out but my hair was STILL wet so hairdryer it was!

I can't speak for others but I'd gladly buy a hairdryer if it came with lovely thick hair like you have. Mine is fine which is why it will dry without one. In summer on a warm, day if I don't put it up but let it hang it will be dry in about an hour.

Have you tried scrunching a curl cream or curl lotion through your wet hair and leaving to air dry ? I’m wondering whether your hair might I fact be wavy or curly and just needs something for the definition.

I say this as someone who spent a long time blow drying and straightening wavy hair before the penny dropped !

duckydoo234 · 24/09/2026 22:17

I don't, but if I did I'd use it to get icing smooth and defrosting things.

Missj25 · 24/09/2026 22:26

I’m 50 , I’ve never owned a hairdryer , curling thongs, crimpler & whatever other hair machines that are out there 😂.
I have shoulder length straight hair , I literally wash & go .
Oh & I’ve never gotten any sort of a cold for going out with a wet head in the winter 😂.
There are hairdryers in house though belonging to my daughters

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 24/09/2026 22:30

I do own one, but rarely use it. I sometimes use it to take most of the damp off if I’m going out shortly after washing my hair but that’s maybe twice a year.

It gets the most use form the kids who like to use it to warm their pjs up before they put them on in winter 🤣

Doctordoolittle · 24/09/2026 22:35

I have one somewhere for visitors if they ask for one, but I never use it.

I have long thick curly hair. I only wash it in the evening when I’m not going out anywhere and I leave it to air dry.

keffie12 · 24/09/2026 22:35

I'm gobsmacked at the amount of people on here who don't have a hairdryer - what more is there to say

Intriguing. I have always thought of myself as having pretty straight hair but maybe as it's going grey, under the colour, it's waving more.

Well every day is a school day. Never thought I’d see someone not even own one.

I let my hair air dry most of the time but it does look more “done” if I use a hairdryer and round brush (or my new discovery, a hot brush!)

And sometimes I need it because I don’t want to go to bed or leave the house with wet hair. Can’t imagine ever not having one.

I’ve got long hair. I very rarely use one, and for many years I didn’t have one.

If I need to go out with wet hair I just towel dry so it’s not sopping, and tie it up. I’ve been to bed with damp hair many times and lived to tell the tale.

edited to say : I don’t think it’s weird to prefer avoiding going to bed with wet hair. I read back my post and realised it looked a bit snarky, which I didn’t intend !

Itsabeast · 24/09/2026 22:57

I have a hairdryer but haven’t used it for years! Hair dries quite quickly and my dog is scared of it!

T1Dmama · 24/09/2026 23:32

I have long haired fluffy dogs (poodles) so I do own one as have to blow dry their hair in the winter. Never blow dry my hair though!
