Does anyone else not own a hair dryer?

Just reading the thread about the house seller wondering what to wear when doing viewings. She mentioned having wet hair and some PP are commenting on this. This led me to wonder about how many people are like me and have never owned a hairdrier. I’m 48. My mum had one when I was a child so it’s not as if I’ve never lived somewhere with one or had one used on my hair but as an adult I’ve just never seen the need for one. I don’t really like the way hair feels or smells after it’s been heat-dried.
Anyone else not own a hairdryer?
(p.s: I’m not even sure how to spell it 😂)

I need one. Mine broke and didn't get replaced. It's not even like I know how to do a proper blow dry or anything. So it's low on my priority list.

I don’t. But I wouldn’t show my house in wet hair or scruffy clothes. Just as I wouldn’t show my house with unmade beds.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/09/2026 11:42

Me. I have very curly hair, that I never straighten. It dries quickly and nicely by itself.

Wet hair doesn’t make you ill, not even in February.

Agree, it would not affect my health in the slightest. I have had my hair freeze on the school run though.

I hate having my hair dried at the salon. They make it flat and shiny and it smells of their over powering shampoo.

I like a bit of frizz in my hair!

They know me well enough to know just how I like it now. I have poker-straight hair, and they either curl it bouncily or do it straight, but with the volume and bounce that I just can't get at home. Plus, they are like friends to me now. I look forward to going for a chat and a cup of tea.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 24/09/2026 12:39

I don't. I do not like the heat or the noise, and my hair does what it wants anyway, regardless of how it is styled, so I pop it up in a turban and amuse myself by looking like I've escaped from Call the Midwife circa 1950!

I said emergency stain, you know the kind that has shown up on the perfect outfit you must wear that day (usually due to make up for me).

I can’t really imagine the circumstances where there could ever be a perfect outfit that I couldn’t change before going out if I dribbled egg yolk on it!

Livingthebestlife · 24/09/2026 13:50

No hairdryer 😲 omg how do you style your hair ? Mine would be sticking out all over the place and frizzy and wavy and would look like I just got out of bed. I've actually got 2 YES 2 😂 ones just in case the other breaks.

No, and if I did I would be super-careful in it (I don't wear much make-up so no risk from that) and sponge it off carefully failing all else, you can always an iron over a dry cloth for delicate fabrics if you really need to. I have never used a hairdryer for this, it wouldn't occur to me.

As for hair styling, the less I do to mine the better it looks, usually just run my fingers through the waves and go.

Iliketulips · 24/09/2026 14:12

I gave waist length hair, I let it dry naturally.

RafaFan · 24/09/2026 17:56

I don't have a hairdryer. I have fine curly hair which just turns to frizz if subjected to any kind of heat treatment.

Setters2020 · 24/09/2026 18:11

Haven’t used one for 20 years, but do have one …to dry the dog when she is very wet!

Single50something · 24/09/2026 18:20

I have one but never use it anymore as the dog goes mental...tried training him to not mind but he has to protect me from it?! Ironically he behaves exceptionally at the groomers when she blow dries him lol
Plus mid curly hair and easier to air dry ;)

Pelsall116 · 24/09/2026 18:30

I own one but only use it to help things along when I am defrosting the freezer, lol

MCF86 · 24/09/2026 18:35

I have one, but I can't remember the last time I used to it on my hair. DCs school socks I forgot to take out of the washing machine until Sunday night regularly get a blast though!

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 24/09/2026 18:38

I don’t have one! I keep thinking of getting one for crafts but haven’t yet.

Why use electricity to do something that will happen naturally with no intervention, is my policy! 😁

8TinyToeBeans · 24/09/2026 18:39

I don’t own a hairdryer for my hair. It’s short and dries quickly. But I do own a hairdryer for warming up my snakes frozen-thawed rat! He only eats it if it’s dry and fluffy!

Stade197 · 24/09/2026 18:40

I didnt realise not owning one was a thing!

I have super thick hair, im currently using mine to dry my hair now its been 15 mins so far 🫠 it would take forver to air dry!

HikingHippo · 24/09/2026 18:42

Ive never owned a hair dryer. My mum had one when I was a kid but I never used it. Never had the patience for any kind of hair-faffery, to the point where I now have a buzz cut!

GardenCovent · 24/09/2026 18:43

Those that leave their hair to dry naturally, what condition is your hair in.
I used to sometimes leave my hair to dry naturally and my hairdresser said this was bad for hair, I thought it would be the opposite, so interested to get opinions on those that do it

Very healthy. When I leave it to dry naturally it goes wavy, but blow drying flattens it.

Dontcallmescarface · 24/09/2026 18:46

I'm 60 and have never owned a hairdryer.

MyOliveMaker · 24/09/2026 18:46

Can’t stand my hair wet for too long so absolutely couldn’t live without it, but if you have naturally curly hair and don’t mind it why not. Hair is weaker and more fragile when wet, so if you have fine hair it’s probs not a good idea to go to bed with it wet or tie it back with too much tension

Suzypoo10 · 24/09/2026 18:47

I don’t own one, I have naturally curly hair and it would go really frizzy if I blow dried it. I have had it cut short now - when it was long, it used to go into ringlets, which look cute on a 5 year old, but not in your 50’s!

Pegsandlola · 24/09/2026 18:52

I've never bought a hairdryer but my husband has bought me two and I have never used either of them, can't be bothered I have thick curly long hair which dries when it dries life's too short to stand there with a dryer!
