Does anyone else not own a hair dryer?

Just reading the thread about the house seller wondering what to wear when doing viewings. She mentioned having wet hair and some PP are commenting on this. This led me to wonder about how many people are like me and have never owned a hairdrier. I’m 48. My mum had one when I was a child so it’s not as if I’ve never lived somewhere with one or had one used on my hair but as an adult I’ve just never seen the need for one. I don’t really like the way hair feels or smells after it’s been heat-dried.
Anyone else not own a hairdryer?
(p.s: I’m not even sure how to spell it 😂)

I don’t have one because I have curly hair and it dries curlier if you wash and go

I don’t have one! I keep thinking of getting one for crafts but haven’t yet.

Why use electricity to do something that will happen naturally with no intervention, is my policy! 😁

My hair needs intervention 😁

A hairdryer is great for getting the dust out from behind radiators 😁

They are, but not as good as a radiator brush; they are very satisfying to use.

No hairdryer here. I had chicken pox as an adult and since then any hot air on my head makes it sting.

Hatty65 · 24/09/2026 19:09

I don't.

I have long, curly hair and blow drying makes it frizz. I wash it roughly every 7 - 10 days, scrunch it about in a microfibre towel and then just leave it to dry. It dries very curly.

I've not used a hairdryer for years.

Hatty65 · 24/09/2026 19:21

My hair a couple of years ago. It's waist length now, but much better if you just leave it alone!

7-10 days? I’ve got naturally curly hair and if
i don’t wash it every day it’s a total mess and I cant
get a comb through it !

Do those of you with no hairdryer no go out to work in the morning, or take kids to school? I wouldn't do either with wet hair. Mine takes about 4 hours to dry naturally.

I wash my hair every morning and go out with it wet often, not sure what the issue with that is?
Never owned a hair dryer as an adult although my DD (4) is desperate for me to get one for some reason!

Hatty65 · 24/09/2026 19:30

@bugalugs45 Mine would feel like straw if I washed it every day.

I don't really comb it. I sort of detangle with my fingers if it's very knotted, but that's it. It will just frizz if I brush/comb it.

No hair dryer, hate the smell and sensation of hair that's been heated by one, have asked the hairdresser never to use one on me when I get my hair cut.

My hair is kept short, it's thick but very fine and can be towelled dry then combed to shape.

Sparkle88K · 24/09/2026 19:43

I don’t like the feeling of having damp hair. My hair is really thick & aches my scalp if I don’t dry it with a hair dryer. I do envy people that are able to let theirs dry naturally, I wish I could!

PinkBuffalo · 24/09/2026 19:45

No hairdryer for me. I has mega short hair I towel dry it and brush it and done. I cannot be in the same room as the noise from a hairdryer!

PurpleYarnivore · 24/09/2026 19:46

I have waist length very thick hair but it’s dead straight and doesn’t need styling , I let it dry naturally . It takes over 12 hours but I always do it in the evening and spread it out on the pillow over night . I can’t be bothered to dry it , it takes about 45 minutes to an hour on the times a hairdresser has dried it .

TheBers · 24/09/2026 19:50

Another one here.

My hair looks ridiculous anything but curly. Hairdryers make it frizzy or straight ( willing to accept it’s my shit instructions and techniques)

cariadlet · 24/09/2026 19:57

I had a hairdryer in my teens and early 20s but haven't bothered using one for few decades.

My dd asked if she could borrow it a few years ago so I looked in the drawer where I used to keep my hairdryer but there was no sign of it.

I found the nozzle that went on the end but there's never been any sign of the actual hairdryer itself.

Goodness knows what happened to it but I'll count that as not owning one.

I own one but only use it to help things along when I am defrosting the freezer, lol

Also very useful for getting water marks out of wooden furniture too.

BambinaCucina · 24/09/2026 20:22

I can't not dry my hair. It's too thick for a start, but also weirdly flat on top of my head and yet poofy on the sides if I don't style it.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 24/09/2026 20:23

I own two, one to use, which I use every day to blow-dry my hair, and one as back-up in case my main one breaks down. Can't imagine not having one!

Lulu1919 · 24/09/2026 20:31

Me -wash my hair every evening
go to bed with it still damp below shoulder length and im 57 !

Clearinguptheclutter · 24/09/2026 20:34

Wow I’m also 48 and can’t imagine not having one
my hair has to be dried with heat and a brush or it just looks a frizzy mess

I suppose some people might have hair that just looks nice if air dried. But not many. Hopefully including OP

Statsquestion1 · 24/09/2026 20:37

We have 3 in our house 🤣🤣

I like to think mine looks nice.

OldWallpaper · 24/09/2026 20:41

I have one but never use it.

RaininSummer · 24/09/2026 20:54

I don't how it would work without a hair dryer. Would I go to work with still wet unstyled hair? In the summer when not at work I leave it to dry but it always looks unkempt

notantordec · 24/09/2026 20:56

@BambinaCucina same here but mine also looks greasy. My hair needs heat
