Does anyone else not own a hair dryer?

Just reading the thread about the house seller wondering what to wear when doing viewings. She mentioned having wet hair and some PP are commenting on this. This led me to wonder about how many people are like me and have never owned a hairdrier. I’m 48. My mum had one when I was a child so it’s not as if I’ve never lived somewhere with one or had one used on my hair but as an adult I’ve just never seen the need for one. I don’t really like the way hair feels or smells after it’s been heat-dried.
Anyone else not own a hairdryer?
(p.s: I’m not even sure how to spell it 😂)

I’ve got one but last time I used it was to defrost my freezer , never dried my hair ever 🤣

ConflictofInterest · 24/09/2026 08:01

It must depend on hair type. I've also got very thick hair and don't own a hair dryer. It would take far too long and leave it a frizzy puffy mess. I just put in some air dry curl conditioner and forget about it.

I have one but not used it for years. I have a subscription at a blow dry bar.

Every day is a school day. Have never heard of a blow dry bar before until this thread!

I get changed.

I said emergency stain, you know the kind that has shown up on the perfect outfit you must wear that day (usually due to make up for me).

RampantIvy · 24/09/2026 08:07

Jealous of all of you with thick hair. Since menopause mine has become very thin.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/09/2026 08:12

I have one in the spare room for visitors but never use it. I hate the noise (may be some autistic sensory sensitivity going on here….)

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 24/09/2026 08:25

I don't and haven't used one since I was a child. I don't see any benefits and heat is damaging to hair.

CosiFannyTutte · 24/09/2026 08:30

I don't. It makes my hair frizzy.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 24/09/2026 08:35

I don't, I have fine hair and live in a hot dry climate. In summer it can dry in five minutes flat, in winter it takes a bit longer.

sanityisamyth · 24/09/2026 08:36

I’ve never owned one. Have long, thick hair but I just air dry it. Much better for it.

Minty82 · 24/09/2026 08:46

I’ve never owned one, and I have very thick hair which I wash every day! My hair’s very curly, and drying turns it into a bouffant mass of candy floss frizz. If the hairdresser dries it after cutting I have to got straight home and wash it to get the curl back.
We do have one in the house though, because DD has sleek straight hair which turns glossy and glorious with drying. Very envious.

purplemunkey · 24/09/2026 08:51

I don’t. I have fine wavy hair, heat would make it fuzzy and it’s damaging to hair in general. I air dry. In cold weather I just put a hat on and take it off when I get wherever I’m going.

It might blow your mind that I don’t own a brush either. Also not great for curly or wavy hair. Just a comb through when it’s wet.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 24/09/2026 09:06

I'm another person that doesn't own one!

gingercat02 · 24/09/2026 09:10

Do those of you with no hairdryer no go out to work in the morning, or take kids to school? I wouldn't do either with wet hair. Mine takes about 4 hours to dry naturally.

SatinHeart · 24/09/2026 09:14

I do own one but tbh only guests use it. I have massively thick hair and blow drying it takes ages and generally makes it go frizzy.

RampantIvy · 24/09/2026 09:15

I have short, wavy hair. It sticks out in the wrong places if I don't finish drying my hair with the hairdryer.

It is so thin these days that I let it dry naturally and when it is nearly dry I just style it with the hairdryer on a low temperature. It adds a bit of body and ensures I don't get bits sticking out in the wrong places. I don't use any product on my hair either.

Isn't the answer blindingly obvious?

No, or I wouldn't have asked, just interested, no need to be rude!

There's not but it honestly astonished me.

I wash my hair in the evening.

God mine would be like a bush if I washed it and went to bed wet/damp. It would be irretrievable, its very thick and straight.

I mean… I just go out with wet hair and let it air dry.

PrettyLittleRose · 24/09/2026 09:57

I used to own a hairdryer, pre 2010s but not now. I just let it dry naturally. I am fortunate enough to have naturally wavy hair, and so it looks nice when I wash it (once it's dried.) I towel dry it, and that gets rid of half the 'wet' and then the rest just dries on its own.

LittleGreenShoots · 24/09/2026 09:58

I mean I do have one. I use it almost never- I think the last time was to activate some heat patches on the kids jigsaws. I like mine to dry naturally too

I don't take the kids to school any more, long past that, but yes I did. And I go to work. And walk the dogs in the morning.
And I can do all these things without needing a hairdryer 😂

I don't.

I do, how else would I do a quick, emergency defrost of the freezer??
