How can we increase respect for women

Flufffluff11 · 19/09/2026 13:00

I've had a lot of chats with male friends and acquaintances about this lately.

A lot of them told me that boys are taught to disrespect girls, from many influejces, from a young age to a point where they don't see women as human.

So if a woman tries to say how life needs to be improved for women. If she tries to talk to men about feeling uncomfortable or scared on a walk alone through a town for example, men don't listen because their brain automatically thinks of the woman "as not even human" . They are also under pressure to look manly in front of each other, and some of them do this by disrespecting women in front of other men

Again, not all men. But the crime rate against women is huge. Men are not going to change, as it doesn't affect them negatively. I'm really interested in talking to other women about this.

How can we raise respect of women in society, in general?

If we sat back and waited for men to change things for us, women would still not have the vote.

Exactly! So true

it’s Rape.

you can say it. You don’t need to hide the word and make it more acceptable.

Rape.

Thank you I’m too used to these Facebook and TikTok ways of writing it I read it like that all the time

Anyone who thinks this is ‘utter nonsense’ has no idea what’s actually going on (or is a man)!

What’s going on is nothing that hasn’t always gone on. Same old statistics posted by you man-haters constantly. Why are you obsessed by posting about people you hate?

Tell me how posting online is going to actually be useful, please?

Get out into your community if you want to help raise young people. Posting hatred online is pointless.

Can you not see that?

We can! But the change needs to come from women not men.

As women have been beat down mentally by men for so long, a lot of women don't believe in themselves.

We need to strengthen ourselves as a group

Why do you think the change needs to come from women? It's not women's work, it's for bloody men and boys to do. Men could start by being decent parents and role models to their sons.

I've already answered this.

People in power have less desire to change and so will let things continue as long as they can.

People without power will cause the change, as they are the ones that are experiencing the injustice.

Why are you calling people man-haters. That's quite an immature term.

I don't hate men, and I haven't seen anyone else write that here either.

Only ever on MN do I read this utter nonsense.

We raise boys to respect people in the same way that we raise girls to respect people.

Any male or female who hasn’t been raised to respect others ends up very lonely!

what a naive and silly comment

So because men have always raped and murdered us, we should stop droning on about it? Wow. These statistics are real women you know, real women who are on this thread I am sure.

In the 70s women had ‘consciousness raising’ groups, where women met and chatted about inequality in society, and literally helped other women to see that being raped and abused wasn’t their fault, it was a man problem. On MN you see it all the time. Women posting about à shite partner whom they can’t see is shite, because they’ve been steadily groomed and coerced by these men to think it’s their fault. Other women online help them to know they are worth more than that.

Tell me why trying to stop women talking about their abuse as an overall sex class, is useful, please?

Thats historically always been a very effective technique in silencing women who want change.
Sorry, sorry, we will stay as we are, we'll shut up.

  1. Stop using 'like a girl' as a tool to chastise little boys.
Even my dad used to say, when grumbling about the football, "they're playing/crying/rolling around like a bunch of girls". I would always calmly point out the only people on that pitch rolling around were men. I've even heard a young boy recently being told by his well meaning, perfectly nice dad that he was "acting like a girl" to make him stop his public tantrum. Boys are being literally raised to equate being a girl with being shit!
  1. Teach boys that emotions are not limited to girls, or sadness or crying. I think little boys seem to be to be more sensitive and emotional than girls on the whole, but somewhere along the line, they equate crying with like a girl (remember girls are shit), express upset as anger (cos that's not 'emotional' like a girl), and the cycle continues
Deadringer · 19/09/2026 15:25

I am not sure men will ever call each other out for their bad behaviour tbh, because it works in their favour. Men gain from women fearing men as a class, at worst it makes them feel big and macho and in control, and at best it makes them feel good that they are the 'nice' guys, and our 'protectors'. Men are also much more likely to band together in any situation, and lie for each other, even when they don't know each other. I don't have any answers, but I think women need to call out misogyny everywhere they see it, and back up other women who are doing the same. We need to also make sure that we keep the bar high with our dps, brothers and sons, unlike many of our mums and grandmothers, who accepted the bare minimum, and less, from men.

BCBird · 19/09/2026 15:30

I spoke to my brother about being scared about accessing the pharmacy in winter via an alley. He didn't get it. Only when I asked if he'd be happy with his wife doing it, did he understand.

Posting online might provide someone with invaluable insights or suggestions that they can take out into the real world, and effect a change, no matter how small.
Also, surely you've noticed that online forums are a bit of a 'thing' nowadays, and probably reach a fair few people. Who then may well go into their physical communities and impart their knowledge. The 2 activities aren't mutually exclusive, right

I actually can’t believe the ‘this is MN nonsense’ crowd. There is somewhere to start. The women (if they are women) that deny there is a problem. How can we educate men if women can’t see how oppressed we still are?

But I think the main issue is that we have completely normalised as a culture, the commodification of women and their bodies. Porn, prostitution, sex trafficking, surrogacy. We need a revolution that seeks to ban all of these. We are not for sale, theft or exploitation.

Absolutely this, surrogacy is the worst, financially poor women are at the bottom of the pile in most parts of the world. Now current government wants to make it even worse, the people most likely to have children young and poor and end up as single parents with no support from the father are now going to be jailed if one of their children go off the rails. Society prefers the ignorant assumptions that it must all be their fault for not doing a good enough job and an idle example of the rare and parent that doesn’t care how their child behaves is wheeled out. Poor women have always suffered, a lot of progress was made in the last 50 years but we seem to be going backwards

Still very rare occurrences, fortunately.

I find statements made like yours far more frightening for the scaremongering.

Why the constant posts by manhaterd if you hate men so much? Lot’s of posters obsessed by their hatred for men but a weird and constant desire to write about it.

Tell me how is posting the same old statistics and fear mongering about men on MN actually going to help?

And tell me why, if you REALLY care don’t you get out into your communities and help raise young men. I do; I’m a Scout Leader.

The vast majority of men want to and would help you. I’m extremely grateful for them.

Still very rare occurrences, fortunately

Are you being serious? Or just deliberately goading? Or simply being obtuse?

2 women are killed each week in DV in the UK alone!

Educate yourself before posting shit on the internet forum!

OP, here’s an idea on how to effect change - internet access & posting on SM for general population should only be allowed after IQ & ethics tests😀
Manosphere will disappear overnight, win win

What change though? Not living with them and not reproducing? I mean it's an idea.

But isn’t that what’s happening already? Or women have children alone because basically we don’t need men (apart from the sperm donation). It will be interesting to see how birth rates continue to evolve - presumably dropping ever further.

boredwithfoodprob · 19/09/2026 15:43

It’s not our job as women to create more respect for ourselves. This in itself is the issue.

Katypp · 19/09/2026 15:44

Stop being eternal victims for a start.
Stop talking about equality but really meaning wanting special treatment.
Stop overreacting to banter. If you give it, you should be able to take it.
Stop assuming every man has an agenda.
Stop blaming everything wrong in your life on men.

That's a start

Can you not see that coming on the same online forums shouting that we're all man-haters isn't helping either? Why are you so obsessed hating on women talking about respect and equality? How is posting online helping?

Do as I say not as I do hey? Going to guess you think misandry is a thing too?

Why? Oppressed people in the past have often become fed up of how they were being treated, and stood up for themselves.

One example: Martin Luther King spoke about improving rights for black people at his time.

He inspired a lot of change

But as it's about men, it's totally fine.
