For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

"Bring your whole self to work"
Oh shit I forgot I my ears

They only want certain whole selves, that's what gets me - my whole self is a very grumpy and fairly stressed, foreign, menopausal middle aged woman worried about lots of non work things and who'd rather be reading a novel with a cup of tea or perhaps on here...

They want my cheerful, pragmatic, "can do", professional, calm work self I think - that's only a part of me (and maybe not "authentic" either)...

YellowScarfRupert · 19/09/2026 16:50

Making memories- that phrase wants me to bury an axe in the person head

Be you authentic self - can fuck off

shhblackbag · 19/09/2026 16:51

Picky bits.

BeaLola · 19/09/2026 16:52

Elevate
or Elavated - overused on tv programmes

labtest57 · 19/09/2026 17:06

Hope this helps, or its abbreviation hth. Its so obnoxious and I always imagine the poster congratulating themselves on their response.

tougholdbirdy · 19/09/2026 17:08

’ reaching out ‘. pathetic .

FaceIt · 19/09/2026 17:11

Hubby
Anyways

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 19/09/2026 17:13

hyperbolic language and catastrophising that everything is triggering.

FFSItsTooHot · 19/09/2026 17:16

'Going on a journey' and 'reaching out' irritate me.

Dovesono · 19/09/2026 17:17

"I've" instead of "I've got".

As in "I've a house in the country".

‘Nourishing’ or ‘nourished’ for me.

it just makes me cringe.

Ewwww I hate that too and always thought I was weird for finding it so yuck, I’m glad you do too!

Enuffnowtbh · 19/09/2026 17:21

Boundaries... hate that word with a passion! So patronising.

Mumofyellows · 19/09/2026 17:28

This speaks to…..

Holding Space

Pop of colour

Calling a bag/coat/hairdryer etc “she”

influencers saying “a … trouser” or “a … lip”

unboxing

“gifted”

curating - unless you’re actually in a museum you sound like an idiot.

MPforTitipu · 19/09/2026 17:29

'Can't' when the speaker means 'not allowed to' or 'we don't want you to'.

'You can't get through there', the road is blocked. Fine.

'You can't sit there', when I'm actually sitting there, so it's clearly perfectly possible. Nonsense.

Wanky corporate drivel that has zero meaning…..ie:

“This is not a moment, it's a movement.

As we move the needle on our north star, we need to circle back, drill down and leverage our core competencies to unlock value at scale.

Let's not boil the ocean. Let's pick the low-hanging fruit, stay agile and take this offline.

Our culture is organic, so we'll empower stakeholders to think outside the box and get everyone aligned on the vision.

At the end of the day, the bandwidth is there and the runway is clear. Now let's pivot, disrupt the space, and action this!!!!”

These guys have made a whole career out of work related wankery!!

We're going to see then in November and I can't wait! I work in the NHS and it's brimming with this kind of crap!

‘ Gifted’ - not appropriate as a verb in any circumstances. See also ‘authored’ - makes my toes curl. You wrote it FFS.

‘Can I get’ and ‘I grabbed some XYZ ….’
‘Elevate’
’Shared’ as in ‘told us’

Oh and passed, passed away - they died.

Someone said to me last week as we were discussing pets ‘ oh, so you are a cat mum?’ she got a very terse reply. My cats are animals, they are not ‘fur babies’.

Glad to know I’m in such good company!

A “cheeky” burger or a “cheeky” pint or whatever.

Yep, and “dirty” used for food - ie dirty fries. It puts me right off and it just sounds cringingly embarrassing.

And beauty influencers on YouTube referring to their eyelids as “eyeballs”, as in “I can’t wait to get these gorgeous shadows on my eyeballs”. 🤮 I don’t know if it’s ignorance copied by other influencers, or if they think it sounds cool, but it makes me wince.

ZanyMaker · 19/09/2026 17:42

When posters ask ‘what do WE think…’ like everyone on mumsnet is a collective with a singular opinion.

And how anything deemed slightly autumnal must be ‘cosy’.

LlynTegid · 19/09/2026 17:43

Super

It's overused.

ohtowinthelottery · 19/09/2026 17:44

I hate "can I get" when used, for example at the counter in a coffee shop eg Can I get a flat white.
What you really mean is "please may I have". By using 'get' you are technically asking if you can go around the counter and help yourself.

RaraRachael · 19/09/2026 17:46

Culinary related ones -

Bad boys - "I'll just put these bad boys in the pan" . They're tomatoes.
Go in with - "I'll just go in with the potatoes" . No you'll put them in.

Don't come to Scotland in that case.
"Can I get" is the normal way of asking for something in a cafe, shop etc.
If I said, "Please may I have" I'd get serious eye rolling 😅

'Going on a journey' and 'reaching out' irritate me.

Oh yes - "I'm at a point in (not on) my weight loss/ therapy/ expat/ retirement/ crochet/ gardening/ parenting/ jigsaw puzzle enthusiast journey where I need to hold space for ...."

EmptyInTheValley · 19/09/2026 18:07

"That's jokes." Apparently a new way of saying something is funny. Thought I had misheard it (on Love Island - don't judge me) but my 22 year old daughter confirmed that is indeed a thing.
