Do you usually take a glass of water to bed?

New couple. One always takes a glass of water to bed. The other never does. Both think the other is strange (light heartedly). What is normal for you?

Yes, I have done for as long as I remember and a cup of camomile tea.

AntiHop · 30/08/2026 23:34

Dh does. I don't. One dd does, the other doesn't.

spottybelly · 30/08/2026 23:37

I take a bottle because the cat would drink from the glass and / or deliberately knock it over

Yes I do because I'm often thirsty in the night

Not helped by the fact that I can't breathe through my nose

I'm the same. If I'm even slightly bunged up I often wake up with a dry throat or a bit of a cough that needs soothing.

Cotopaxi · 30/08/2026 23:40

I've never felt the need for a drink of water at night.

DH puts a glass of water on his bedside table. One of our cats creeps into the bedroom in the middle of the night and drinks out of it.😂

Defender90 · 30/08/2026 23:42

I do, he doesn’t.

He’ll drink from the tap like a weirdo if he needs to.

Cleaningismycardio · 30/08/2026 23:44

Always. Pint of water to bed each night. By morning I have usually drunk about half, sometimes more. Hot days or if I have a cold etc I will have drunk most/all by morning. I need to drink water throughout the day too. I speak a lot for work and sinus bother means I often have a dry mouth which I hate.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 30/08/2026 23:45

I take my water bottle to bed every night.

fluffydoglove · 30/08/2026 23:49

Yes I’ve done it all my adult life I leave a two litre bottle of water by my bed and a cup always

Aleveldilemma · 31/08/2026 00:26

Yes always! Brushing my teeth makes me thirsty so I always need to have a drink after that and if I wake during the night I need to drink something usually. I don’t need to wee in the night.

Always take 2 glasses of squash to bed, usually 2 different flavours.
I don’t really remember to drink during the day, especially if I’ve been working. I would never bother taking water bottle with me during the day.

Usually drink a fair bit at bedtime then again in the night
I can see this is not the norm!

Yikes - that’s really bad for your teeth!

So I never used to, when I got with my now DH he did, and I thought it was so strange! About 15 years in together I started taking water to bed, most notably because I was up breastfeeding in night, and I’ve continued to take water to bed since.
but yes originally I thought it bizarre to take water to bed, now I panic if I get in bed and realise I forgot my water 😂

Snap! BF started it.

Guarantee I’ll need it if I don’t have it now.

Not since I found a huge Giant House Spider in mine one morning. Have never got over the thought that I could have drunk that in the middle of the night.

I have a mug with a lid to ensure this never happens

Never, I don't know why anyone would

You don't understand that people might get thirsty?

Yes, I take a bottle of water to bed each night. I rarely drink that much of it, but it is to wet my mouth, which can be unpleasantly dry if I do wake up.

SnowFrogJelly · 31/08/2026 00:52

Always

tinyspiny · 31/08/2026 01:34

I always have two bottles of water by the bed just in case I finish the first one .

Why if it’s sugar free? I always have a glass of weak squash on my bedside table
when I say weak, this is blackcurrant so you can see how weak I make it!

Never have, perhaps only when unwell. Don't understand why you would need water in the night.

GrumpyPanda · 31/08/2026 01:55

More than just a glass, a bottle of mineral water! I like to drink some of it first thjng in the morning or if I wake up in between.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 31/08/2026 01:57

Not since it became my cat’s permanent source of water. 😹

Doesn’t matter - it’s the acid in it that affects your teeth no matter how dilute. Basically anything other than water will affect your teeth.

Cora0 · 31/08/2026 02:43

I fill an Owala 1/3 full so I have cold water if I want it. I usually don’t but sometimes I wake up with an ache or pain and use it to take ibuprofen. Otherwise I’ll use it to take pills in the morning.

Ah ok. Oh well. Drinking it weak means I drink plenty of water at least its not all day as I can’t drink at my desk at work

rathersleepy · 31/08/2026 02:55

I sometimes bring a glass up if I remember but will only have a sip or 2. Otherwise I’ll be up and down to the loo all night. My bladder wouldn’t hold the amount some of you drink during the night.

Same here too. With that plus dry mouth from meds I like to have something on hand to drink at all times, tbh.
