Do you usually take a glass of water to bed?

New couple. One always takes a glass of water to bed. The other never does. Both think the other is strange (light heartedly). What is normal for you?

Yes, but unless I have a cold or something, I don't usually drink it until the morning. Just knowing it's there means I don't get thirsty, whereas the possibility of having to go downstairs to the opposite end of the house if it wasn't there would mean it would be like I was trekking the Sahara. I don't usually need a pee during the night, either.

For a moment o thought this might be another Penis Beaker thread....but no thankfully that's just the one!🤣🤣

Yes I take a glass of water to bed....feels drinking. No penis dunking or cleaning goes on in my glass of water!!!

Where can I find this thread?! 😂

KiwiFall · 30/08/2026 21:53

I take a beaker for obvious reasons

Today’s top MN comment 😂

Not water as I dont like the taste. But I take a pint of squash or a bottle ofsuper cold fizzy water with squash in it.

I've done it ever since I was little. My mouth gets so dry overnight.

I sleep really well and never need the loo until I wake up and even then it's not urgent.

Nobabyyet296 · 30/08/2026 21:55

Yes psychologically I can’t sleep without it. Even if I don’t drink it, if I don’t have it next to me I convince myself I’m thirsty and have to get up for one

throwaway3749574 · 30/08/2026 21:55

Always. Get a really dry mouth in the night and often feel thirsty when falling asleep/in the night/first thing in the morning. Wish it wasnt so - maybe it’s a peri thing?

😮 what about your teeth??

Tvradiorentals · 30/08/2026 21:56

Yes I like to have water by my beside in case I feel like a few sips during the times I’m awake overnight.

I switched from a glass to a lidded beaker recently after finding a very large dead spider in the bottom of the half full glass one morning. I’d drunk from the glass a couple of times overnight. I’m not sure at what point the spider drowned itself in it 😱

DinoLil · 30/08/2026 21:56

Always!!

DP and I both take a 500ml bottle of mineral water to bed, each lasts a couple of nights. I can’t imagine not having a drink on my bedside table

Not to be alarmist, but aren’t you only supposed to drink from an opened bottle of mineral water for 24 hours? However, you’ve obviously not had any issues.

ilovepixie · 30/08/2026 21:57

Troublein · 30/08/2026 21:39

We have small carafes of water with the glass doubling as a lid in every bedroom.

I don't always drink any, but it's always there.

How often do you change the water

likelysuspect · 30/08/2026 21:58

Not a glass of water but a cup of tea.

Never, I don't know why anyone would

Do you never get a blocked nose? Mouth breathing at night makes your mouth very dry.

PurpleYarnivore · 30/08/2026 22:00

Yes , I always have since I was a child and everyone in my family does . I take pills before bed with it , sip when I wake in the night and finish whatever’s left first thing in the morning .

Sauceandwhizz · 30/08/2026 22:00

@throwaway3749574 they're all good! In my mid 40s and no issues. I grew up eating sweets everyday and full fat pop too so I think I'm just lucky with it.

Its pretty weak, no added sugar squash. Maybe that helps.

DancingQueen2018 · 30/08/2026 22:01

Cup with a lid or the bloody cats knock it over trying to drink out it!

Q2C4 · 30/08/2026 22:02

Hellet · 30/08/2026 21:48

No I've never done this and never slept in a bed with anyone who did. I don't currently have a bedside table but even if I did, I'd worry about knocking it over (or one of my dcs doing so). When the dcs are ill we give them a water bottle to keep next to their bed, I've never felt the need for one even when ill.

How do you cope without a bedside table?! I would seriously struggle without one. Where to put your glasses (admittedly not everyone wears them), phone, face creams etc….?! ☺️

I do it because I have sleep apnea and often sleep with my mouth open so my mouth gets dry. I wake up several times every night. I imagine it’s mainly people who don’t sleep solidly through the night who are more likely to have water.

What?

Loads of my drinks aren’t consumed within 24 hours!

Oioiqueen · 30/08/2026 22:12

I have to take a tablet 30-60 minutes before food so I have a half filled glass overnight ready to go. I get hangry so by the time I've showered I'm ready to stuff my face.

abracadabra1980 · 30/08/2026 22:14

Yes fizzy soda stream tap water. I crave fizz.

Willweeverfindout · 30/08/2026 22:14

I call it my safety water. Rarely drink it. DH takes a pint. Always drinks it.

Squash in the night, and then not brushing your teeth?!

Namechangewegovyjune26 · 30/08/2026 22:16

I never take water, I would probably knock it off and I’m asleep so can’t imagine why I’d need it. In the morning I can just get up and drink some water.
