Do you usually take a glass of water to bed?

New couple. One always takes a glass of water to bed. The other never does. Both think the other is strange (light heartedly). What is normal for you?

Yep , I almost always wake at night for a loo break ( old woman here ) after that ,I have a swig of water and hopefully go back to sleep
What ever is left in the glass , waters one of my indoor plants in the morning

MiceSpiders · 30/08/2026 22:16

I take a (refillable) bottle of water up. If I take a glass my cat drinks it

bababamama · 30/08/2026 22:16

Yes, don’t most people? I prefer the filtered water from fridge hence taking it up

GLC789 · 30/08/2026 22:17

My water bottle is never out of my reach.

TheGoodOnesAreAllGone · 30/08/2026 22:18

Always, my dh doesn't but sometimes drinks water from the tap when he gets up to go to the loo in the night

What?

Loads of my drinks aren’t consumed within 24 hours!

I think the bacteria from your mouth can make the water go a bit funny, especially if warm / room temp.

GentleSheep · 30/08/2026 22:19

Yes, a water bottle as I've been known to knock over a glass of water! I get dehydrated easily so it really helps.

No, never. Why would I need water if I'm asleep?

Haven’t you ever woken up with a dry mouth or coughing?

I have a Stanley with water in beside my bed. I rarely drink it, I’d maybe sip from it one night a week after I go to sleep, but I do tend to have a big swig before I go to sleep.

SewYellowLikeButter · 30/08/2026 22:21

Yes I do. I don’t want to wake up with a dry throat and have to go and get one in the middle of the night.

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 30/08/2026 22:21

DH does. Wakes in the night and takes one noisy sip. Drives me mad!

DP and I both take a 500ml bottle of mineral water to bed, each lasts a couple of nights. I can’t imagine not having a drink on my bedside table

Same.

Gosh! I use (and refill) a 750ml bottle endless times before the top is fusty enough for me to think “Yep, need a new one”! Maybe every couple of months?

I’m immunocompromised too, but my fusty water bottle hasn’t killed me yet 😆

Vivi0 · 30/08/2026 22:25

Yes, every night.

godmum56 · 30/08/2026 22:25

I have a waterbottle too. I have got an annoying dry cough. Nothing wrong, have had it about 10 years, get worse when I have hayfever and a sip of water sorts it. I wouldn't want a glass as I always sleep with the window open and wouldn't want to swallow a drowned insect.

GiveMeWordGames · 30/08/2026 21:32

Always. If I don't drink from it, it just goes in the kettle the next morning.

Normal sized glass unless I've had a few, in which case, pint mug.😁

This is so clever! I've used mine to water the plants sometimes but I enjoy the kettle plan.

ChocolateBiscuitsandaCuppa · 30/08/2026 22:28

Always have - drink it as soon as I wake up as am very thirsty.
Husband has one, and usually leaves it untouched.

Whynottryagain · 30/08/2026 22:28

Always. It's been normal for me since childhood. I often wake up thirsty in the middle of the night, especially after takeaways.

Although I have it in a bottle rather than a cup to avoid spillage and prevent the cat drinking it.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 30/08/2026 22:30

I take 2 water bottles (totalling 2.5 litres) 🤣. Not unusual to finish them.

Breastfeeding and thirsty ALL the time!

Normally, outside of breastfeeding or pregnancy I’d just take one bottle (1 or 1.5l) to bed.

I often wake thirsty & get migraines if I don’t drink enough.

weegiemum · 30/08/2026 22:31

We both have a small carafe with a glass by the bed. It’s become dh’s job to refresh them each evening once we’re heading bedward. Helpful for evening and morning medications (mainly me!) but also good, also for mainly me, for getting up for a drink in the night. I’m disabled and getting up is a full on production including getting to my feet and putting the en suite light on which is bound to wake Dh. A bedside class is so much better for us both!

I always have a glass of water, don’t always drink it.

Same but have more so during these hot nights we've been having. Winter not so much.

No, never. Why would I need water if I'm asleep?

I inevitably wake during the night thirsty and with a dry mouth

Any1ForTennis · 30/08/2026 22:33

No, it's something you learn not to do when you have cats 😆.

neilyoungismyhero · 30/08/2026 22:34

I wake up every 2 hours and always have a drink out of my glass. I can drink half a pint a night.

dreamiesformolly · 30/08/2026 21:40

Do you never wake up in the night? If not, I’m jealous…

An unbroken sleep right through I'm also jealous not had that for years.

bocketyaulbag · 30/08/2026 22:35

DancingQueen2018 · 30/08/2026 22:01

Cup with a lid or the bloody cats knock it over trying to drink out it!

Cup with a lid here so I don't have to worry there's an insect in it in the dark
