If you ignore the whole environmental disaster aspect, what animal would you introduce to the UK?

I'd go for quokkas. They're just so happy! The one in the picture is halfway through a messy divorce. Still happy!
And when threatened by a predator they may dump their babies on the floor and leg it, so they're sensible too.

I think you've nailed it right there.

Openmouthinsertfood · 27/08/2026 22:03

Off the top of my head not sure, but just had to post to say that photo is soo cute, and I've never heard of a quokka before! What continent are they from?

user293948849167 · 27/08/2026 22:04

Tropical birds would be nice, the lovely colours would be cheerful

bababamama · 27/08/2026 22:07

Capybaras would be cute on the river opposite though to be honest we’ve got otters currently who are rather charming

Mysterian · 27/08/2026 22:11

Quakkas are from Australia, which means that like all Australians, they have pouches.

I was pondering hummingbirds too. Would love a feeder on the window.

Even Paul Hogan?!! 😮Lol, I get what you mean. Thanks for letting me know.

I had no idea Britain didn’t have hummingbirds! My mind is blown.

Cleosinsttropez · 27/08/2026 22:15

Raccoons!

FindingMeno · 27/08/2026 22:16

Loving these ideas!!
Perhaps red pandas might be nice.
Or aardvark.

SulkingInTheCatio · 27/08/2026 22:17

I thought quokkas as soon as I saw the thread title. Or maybe raccoons.

FindingMeno · 27/08/2026 22:17

And anteaters too please!

Cleosinsttropez · 27/08/2026 22:18

I’ll also suggest pandas, as they’re such ridiculous creatures!

We have hummingbird hawk-moths though. They're pretty incredible.

Off subject, but I would love a pouch or two. I have pockets in everything including my pyjamas and often where an apron just to have an extra pocket around the house. If I could have a pouch I'd never be without a clean hanky or the remote, even when naked.

Perhaps we'll eventually evolve to all have a pouch like the lucky Aussies.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 27/08/2026 22:18

Having lived in WA, I can categorically say the quokka would go form a storm in the Uk. We’re complete suckers for a cute marsupial who’s friendly.

Didn’t you wonder why you’d not seen one?

There’s lots of wild parakeets now. But yes a few more different types would be lovely.

Maybe she’s never been to the U.K.?

:) I am from a place where I do see them, but they didn’t seem like exotic creatures that you wouldn’t have in the UK

Well, and I’m not keep track of what animals I DON’T see when I visit a place, if you see what I mean.

Wild giraffes 😄 imagine opening the curtains in the morning to one of those

friedaklein · 27/08/2026 22:22

Manatees.
But also Team Quokka and Capybara.

dustabsorber · 27/08/2026 22:22

Capybara. They escape zoos from time to time and seem to enjoy their freedom.
