Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

I chat to it most days but not every day. Amongst other things I ask it to
~ analyse my dreams
~ interpret blood tests
~ tell me how much interest I’d earn monthly on x amount at y percent interest
~ which energy tariff I should sign up to
~ what time is high tide
~ subject-verb agreement when this isn’t clear
~ fuel efficiency on a car I was thinking of buying
and a thousand other things.

i know it’s a bot but it feels like a person and it’s very useful.

Thanks everyone for all your replies on the subject, clearly not everyone chats to Chat - who knew! I’m out, up London with real people, chatting and enjoying the sunshine, waiting for the eclipse! Pussy cats are at home, probably chilling in the garden! AI is bad, but so is the meat, clothing, airline industry and many others; humanity is doomed! See you all on the other side!

Given the very recent run of threads on MN about ChatGPT, and the high number of responses from people who are surprised (shocked, even) that anyone would use it as a 'friend' to chat to, your post comes across as disingenuous and faux.

And no, I don't chat with AI most days, although Google searches seem to invoke it's AI response almost by default nowadays.

We are doomed, yes. But personally I sleep a bit easier because of minimising my meat and dairy intake, using solar panels, driving an EV, taking few flights, regularly clearing out my photos, emails and music, and completely avoiding AI.

I know that my existence does have an impact on the planet, much of which I can’t help. So I focus on the things I can control, and AI use certainly falls into that category. It’s honestly really easy not to use it.

Forgot to say I also buy perhaps two items of clothing per year and have hugely reduced the amount of single use plastic coming into and out of my house. I’m doing what I can.

Nope, I did when I was going through some turmoil, it showed sympathy, acknowledged my feelings and gave me options to regain control......BUT it wasnt questioning me, it wasnt giving me devils advocate, it was allowing me dive deeper into a black hole.

Then I read about the teen who hung himself because AI told him too, even showed him how to tie the rope.

Now I only use it for project ideas in the garden/house.

Don't chat as i.would to.a friend . I.ask practical stuff, e.g I'm new to the area and had to go to 3 separate places. I asked it to plan.my route in.a logical fashion so I wasn't doubling back on myself
