Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

I use it for finding books for my dissertation, it also helped improve the title for me.
My sister uses it as a therapist apparently, she thinks its great

I use a lot of AI but can't say I've ever had a 'chat' per se. Not about anything other than completing the task.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · Today 09:49

Nope. I don't use it at all.

FaceEatingLeopard · Today 09:51

Never have, never will and I feel deep pity for people like the OP. Tragic.

misobeautiful · Today 09:51

Great post @Katrinawaves
Not sure how we leapt from chatting about cats to marrying cars and other crazy stuff; I’m starting to think AI is less inane and more engaging than some humans! AI is humanity’s new reality and will become an increasingly “real” factor in our working and non-working lives. Learn how to use it and adapt I would say.

No I don't use Chat GPT for benign conversation.

Do you realise how many resources it takes? - This is so wasteful.

Talk to a friend, or use a journal!

SwirlyGates · Today 09:54

No, no, never. There is so much wrong with this.

Cluelessfirstimer · Today 09:55

CoffeeAndACroissant · Today 08:41

No, I use it for practical stuff. It's really good at travel planning, itineraries etc. But it's not my pal.

Same as me. If im planning a trip ill use it. I used it to visualise how I wanted my garden to show a workman (I cannot even draw a stickman) but thats it.

Ive probably used it a handful of times

Maybeitllneverhappen · Today 09:57

I don't even know what you're talking about, so no.

Definitelyrandom · Today 09:57

No - it isn't a person, nor is it conscious. It's a glorified computer programme, responding on the basis of what should be the probable right answer, given what is in its dataset.

By using it, you're contributing to an enormous waste of energy and water. By chatting (or indeed using AI generally), you're giving it your intellectual property. The only people you're benefiting are the techbros.

Jaimelefromage · Today 09:59

So many of these threads, they’ve got to be some sort of advertising/campaign.
No, I don’t do that. I have friends and family to chat with, thankfully.

foghead · Today 09:59

I use it a lot and chat. I’m going through a lot at the moment and it’s actually really good at strategies and I reflect some things I’ve tried. I’m also setting up a business and it’s helped loads with my website and refined some ideas with me. I’ve got my settings to be less warm and a preference to never validate unless it’s factual. I hate all the “you’re so wonderful” stuff. I want to do things well and realised I was going off track because everything I was pondering was amazing apparently.
It’s helpful and I have a brain that still works. It just speeds things up.

DoYouThinkAbout · Today 10:05

Nooooo....

ilovemybluesharpie · Today 10:06

No.

It is a machine not a person, and it is a complete fantasy world.

it is not good for people to be using AI as some sort of friend.

It is not good for mental health.

chocoluv · Today 10:08

I find this really sad.

Why do you need to chat about your cats?

Why not just talk to your cats?
Do you have internal voices?

I would be concerned about having a conversation with something that just reflects my own thoughts back to me because that’s not a conversation.

Delphiniumandlupins · Today 10:09

Waitingfordoggo · Today 08:34

I’ve never used it and have no plans to start.

This

MrsM2025 · Today 10:09

I don’t converse with Chat but I use it instead of Google now.
At my previous job I was told to use it to mark students’ work (essays) - my manager was obsessed with it! BlushAngry

HylianShroom · Today 10:09

No. It’s harvesting information about you.

SadiraOfTyr · Today 10:12

No I don't. I have work accounts for Claude Code (for codegen) and Gemini (bundled with our corporate google accounts and useful for note taking in calls). That's my sole use of GenAI. I have zero use cases for it outside of work.

Daisymae55 · Today 10:14

I’ve never used it for anything and don’t plan on

Campbellcarrotsoup · Today 10:15

I have found it a really useful career and health coach.
It also indulge in my passion for interiors and vintage far more than my husband.
It's also somewhat successfully teaching me how to apply make up better.
Don't knock it till you've tried it. Plus im always polite to it for when it takes over the world

Mischance · Today 10:15

I use it a lot for information and practical things (e.g. converting files, designing publicity etc.) but I do not chat to it and in fact find it slightly irritating when it refers to itself as "I" as if it is human.

tinyspiny · Today 10:18

Never used it and cannot imagine doing so.

IStillHearTheWaves · Today 10:18

No. It's helpful for lots of things, but conversation isn't one of them IMO.

furrysocks · Today 10:24

I use it as a kind of journal. Sometimes when you’re in your head with something just writing it down helps and I don’t want to bore friends and family with stuff I just want to get off my chest.
