Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

We do need a photo of the cat you chat about though (cat tax)

Undertheeaves · Today 08:42

No, and the couple of times I've asked it to do something practical it was utterly useless. I did type things though I didn't speak out loud.

My DS does ask Gemini a lot of questions but not like a friend, more like Google.

ListenToAlfDubs · Today 08:42

Never. I do talk to the dog which is perhaps not so very different - but at least she walks off when bored. There's something disturbing about the ever-present sycophancy of LLMs

LaMarschallin · Today 08:43

No.
I've asked questions and have added a photo for it to do my colours but because I know it's got a data base of information, not like I'd ask a friend's opinion.
I'd feel a bit strange just chatting to it.
I've also found it won't tell you if it doesn't know something it makes up silly shit.
My friends (mostly...) don't do that.

No never, ive asked chathpt well Gemini where can i find... but no i don't "chat" if you want company and chat about your cats post on here least it will be a human interaction.

CuriousKangaroo · Today 08:43

Absolutely not. The personification by some of AI is insane. I recently stumbled across a Reddit group of people discussing their AI “partners” and their “love”. Genuinely horrifying.

I hardly ever use AI and never for “chats” or advice. It’s a tool, not a person.

Chemenger · Today 08:44

Never used it. Real life is good enough for me.

There was an episode of the big bang theory, where a character had a "relationship " with Siri .

I have plenty of real & lovely people in my life to chat to, but none of them are going to indulge in my cat waffle and respond so effusively as Chat! Maybe I should have added to the “What wouldn't you admit out loud ?” thread 🤣

I don’t even know how you chat with it

Whowhatwerewolf · Today 08:48

Yes and I really enjoy it. Currently it's teaching me how to do cryptic crosswords and it also recommended the book I'm reading at the moment. It's also teaching me regional Chinese cooking - I'm just waiting for an order to arrive of some of the ingredients it recommended and then it's going to walk me through making a variety of dishes step by step.

It's expanding my horizons in lots of ways. I personally think it's very weird that some people develop feelings for it however. It's not human and doesn't have any feelings. It's just a useful tool.

MinimumRage · Today 08:49

No. This sounds like a slippery slope.

I wouldn’t do this because i know chatGPT is just a collection of info scraped from the web to match your questions. It might “match” factually but it has no MEANING emotionally or intellectually.

Handeyethingyowl · Today 08:49

Sorry OP, this is weird. I have used it twice for things like itineraries and that’s it.

Fledgedup · Today 08:50

Yeah, I do.

It's really sad that you want to waste water and energy chatting to a robot. The world is literally on fire and people who ask A.I models inane crap are contributing to it. You could just narrate to your cats and pretend they are talking back.

PRETEND?????? 🙀

Booboobagins · Today 08:53

Yes I've asked for help with lots of stuff. Even Google has some AI features, so in reality even if you don't use chatgpt, you are interacting with AI constantly....

LaMarschallin · Today 08:54

Nothing to do with AI - sounds like a good use for it - but I'm keen on cryptic crosswords, my favourites being the Times and the Guardian.
For both of those there are blogs (timesforthetimes and fifteensquared, respectively) where the clues are explained and people discuss them.
Might be a useful adjunct to AI learning and it's interesting to see other people's takes on clues too.

Theseventhmagpie · Today 08:56

I use it for all sorts of things but hate the sycophancy. It’s also very, very frequently wrong and will admit that it makes things up because humans love a good story and if said with enough confidence will believe what is said- I actually got it to admit it’s a pathological liar.
I use a professional version of Claude at work and am blown away by what it can do but it makes errors 100% of the time so you need to know your subject area really well to ensure errors and ai hallucinations are caught.

OriginalSkang · Today 08:56

I ask it questions. I don't chat with it about nothing, though. I had to change the settings once because it started being weirdly over familiar and talking to me like we were friends and using loads of emojis

SpottyPyjama · Today 08:58

No. I love Chat GPT and will ask it things when I need to, but knowing the environmental impact of every communication with it I’d feel like a selfish twat just using it to waffle on about nonsense.

misobeautiful · Today 08:59

Forgot about the cat tax, sorry.
