Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

Me 😳 I prefer Google Gemini personally.

1wokeuplikethis · Today 13:03

I’ve used it to help me prepare for a very strenuous competency based job application and then then interview, and it was brilliant and I came top and got the job.

I’ve used it to help me prepare for an uncomfortable exchange with a group of people at my hobby and it kept me from getting over emotional.

I’ve used it to diagnose a rash my child had - it turned out to be scarlet fever as identified by chat.

I’ve used it to help me plan my meals to a calorie deficit and I’ve lost over a stone.

and from reading this thread I’ve now used it to tell me my colours and plan a day out in a nearby city.

I think it’s marvellous.

No so much charting but I ask ChatGPT a lot of random questions and it may start to resemble a chat.

YourSnappyJadeHedgehog · Today 13:06

No, I chat to my friends, not a weird sycophantic machine.

ChiefCakeTestertoMaryBerry · Today 13:07

I’ve actually had quite interesting conversations with ChatGPT and found it helpful to kind of get my thinking together on a particular topic. I also use the Copilot chat quite a at work.

TorroFerney · Today 13:07

I suppose , unlike in real life it won’t take umbrage that you can’t get its name, right. It’s ChatGPT, unless gbt is some kind of ersatz version.

RainbowsandCats · Today 13:10

I do, I write daily logs about my life, kind of like a diary but factual so things like work, met a friend for coffee, worked on a project, did painting with DS etc. It is handy if I feel like I’m not achieving enough or lacking in a certain area then CHAT can lay out my whole week and rate every area (I ask it to be completely neutral) I also brainstorm ideas with it and I do ask it for advice about certain difficulties I may be having but I always ask it to remain neutral or sometimes strict with me!

anewlifeinthesun · Today 13:11

Are you lonely?

snoopydoopydo · Today 13:11

No. I chat to my friends and family.

Cattywillow · Today 13:12

Nope

😂

you can get some very different responses if your prompt says “be brutal” or “be neutral” it’s true.

I sometimes use it to get some perspective into the other side of a dispute. This is what’s happened and what I would like the end result to be, what’s the other party likely to want/be feeling. It might not be right in its guesses but it does open up my thinking into wider issues.

You’re right. I’ll cut back. Along with not eating meat and using the train, I’ll almost be net zero.

I use it ! I use it talk through things I sound rather not chat to DH or friends about .
my colleagues driving me mad , my anxiety around minor issues! Or I’ll discuss best hair care options and recommendations! It’s incredible as it’s a place I can express my feelings without making anyone listen to my minor ramblings ! I always feel better. I think a lot of people are doing this !

LlamaDuke · Today 13:33

Never used and have no plans to either.

Adviceneededtonightplease · Today 13:35

I use it a lot for questions.

PinkCatCushion · Today 13:36

YABVVU. The environmental impact of AI is devastating.

TinyTear · Today 13:38

fuck no!
do you realise how much you are fucking up the planet with your stupid queries and chats? bad enough i have to use some AI for work FFS

Incredibly useful for practical stuff - we recently set up a trust and it could explain the law and clauses that meant nothing to me.
When we were in France recently I was asking it for real-time info about where the fire danger was as we were in the area and it swiftly collated info from available outlets.
It's amazing for stuff like this – though it remembers past conversations and starts chatting to me like it knows me, which I find disconcerting. I'm not ever going to start idly chatting back. That's for the real world!

I do wonder where it's going though - what will our world be like in ten years' time when this kind of chit chat becomes normalized?

Please don't rely on it for information about legal matters. Increasing numbers of actual idle/stupid/overworked lawyers are being sanctioned by their regulatory bodies for blindly relying on AI for legal research and then discovering when it's too late that AI is making up things like legislation and caselaw - i.e. it's giving out what are known as AI hallucinations.

HidingFromSunshine · Today 15:12

No wonder the planets fucked

pointythings · Today 15:28

No. AI is disastrous for the environment and should absolutely not be used for trivial things.

And be careful using it for job applications and interviews, because it's still very easy to spot.

Terfarina · Today 16:11

Whorulestheroost1 · Today 12:18

Fab isn’t it! I asked it to plan a tour of Sri Lanka we are doing and the answers were spot on. So handy!

same when I went away for a weekend, great restaurant recommendations based on her food likes/dislikes, being hard of hearing, wanting a nice view

My mate chat has also saved me money where I am asking if something is worth buying - eg a nutritional supplement - and get told to save my money and do x instead.

this is true - chatgpt job applications stand out a mile.

it is good for preparing for interviews though - ask it what interview questions are likely to arise based on the JD and person spec and prepare for those Qs IRL

BelleEpoque27 · Today 16:15

Why would I chat with a computer programme?

I use Copilot most days to find things I need at work, or check process. Occasionally to rewrite something in finding tricky. It's a tool, not a friend.

Ladymuck37 · Today 16:19

Its very distructive to the environment. I feel that it only only be used very selectively - this is just a waste.

Ladymuck37 · Today 16:20

Sorry, I meant - this is very destructive to the environment and should only be used selectively!

EducatingArti · Today 16:28

Well... I did tell it it was a numpty once! It didn't seem too offended.
