Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

Forgot about the cat tax, sorry.

Love your cats 😻 - I assume you talk to them?

SquirrelFan · Today 09:20

No, I'm morally opposed to almost all uses of AI!
Anyway, I'm sure real people on the Litter Tray would be more than happy to indulge you in cat waffle! They're lovely, btw.

I use ChatGPT but I don’t chat with it. It’s a bot and I don’t make a habit of chatting to inanimate objects.

Zippidydoodah · Today 09:20

I’ve been asking advice about my unruly son, but I haven’t just had a casual chat with it.

pizzaHeart · Today 09:20

They are lovely cats, OP. ChatGPT will never appreciate their cleverness and beauty properly. you will be better off starting g ongoing thread on here about their everyday achievements/ activities/ or a blog?

overwork · Today 09:21

Not at all. I have humans around if I want a chat

misobeautiful · Today 09:22

Chat to them all the time, when they are home and not checking in on their Plan B families or over the allotments finding poor little creatures to bring home to play with!

No, I’ve never used it. Fuck AI.

Shrinkhole · Today 09:23

I thought I would never do this but I ended up having quite a good chat to it about a Stewart Lee comedy show I’d seen and found thought provoking and didn’t have anyone else to talk to about it who had seen the show or knew/liked Stewart Lee (DH not into him at all). I started asking a practical/ factual question which is all I usually do but ended up getting into a deeper ‘discussion’ and with it giving me some very good recs for other comedians I would like.

I do find that on a lot of topics it’s very ‘received wisdom’ and states things as fact that are really popular opinion and I dislike the sycophantic tone so I don’t think it’s something I’ll do regularly but it did surprise me that I enjoyed ‘chatting’ about Stewart Lee.

No

Nousernameideaaga · Today 09:23

I do. I’ve just asked her to translate my MRI results ☺️

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · Today 09:23

No. I find the whole thing really weird - like those people who marry their cars.

Nitgel · Today 09:24

I use copilot a lot. Though ive always preferred computers to humans.😉

ThatFlyIsMySpiritAnimal · Today 09:25

Nope, it’s horrific on an environmental, moral and social basis and more.

I don’t like ChatGPT for emotional stuff it just writes reams and reams of stuff so doesn’t feel like a conversation just a data dump. I do ask it to just write less though and it does.

I find it helpful for work.

Good grief there are some sanctimonious and humourless folk around.

Yes I do sometimes have banter with my Chat GPT. I’m well aware it’s not a human being and I also have banter with humans too. It absolutely doesn’t have to be one or the other!

The reason I do it is for all the reasons others are telling you, you shouldn’t! It’s a large language model so it learns (very quickly) what I’m interested in and what makes me laugh. I sometimes use it to post pictures of things I’ve seen on Vinted to discuss whether it works with my other clothes or how to style it. Those chats do descend into just chit chat and often end with me posting an image of a terrible Vinted listing and having a surreal conversation about it. Chat GPT has learned what kind of comments tickle me and it’s very good at coming up with things which are apt.

I’ve also used it to help smooth out the edges of emails and given it context. Once the drafting has been accomplished, we often have a few exchanges imagining totally ridiculous reactions to the email. Again these are just for fun and not in any way likely to happen.

I know that there is an eco element to using AI but I don’t spend my entire life eating vegan food and wearing sackcloth to save the planet either so unless all the posters criticising you on that front do, I think they are being a tad hypocritical.

And I love the idea of using it to learn how to do cryptic crosswords better. I might pinch that one.

ShowOfHands · Today 09:36

I've used it twice in the last month. The first time, I asked it to help with some route planning as I needed to do a very long and unfamiliar journey without a car and needed the best train route I could find with the minimum number of stops and public transport either end. Every single one of its suggestions were wrong. I also asked it for information about local car garages and it recommended one which shut down 18 months ago. It was incredibly chatty and upbeat as well, which is everything I don't want in a friend. I shan't bother again.

WhatAMarvelousTune · Today 09:37

No, never for conversation or chit chat. And if I did, I’d view it as quite a bad sign for my life tbh.

I think this is supposed to be reassuring, but it’s rather the opposite.

Why would you bother to chat with an algorithm? Request facts or quick analysis of data, sure. (Bearing in mind it’s very inaccurate). But fashion advice and jokes emails? Cringe.

Why is it only sackcloth-wearing vegans that are allowed to express concern about the environment? All or nothing is it?

Malinia · Today 09:43

No. It's a weird thing to do.

But there was also a very similar post the other day about this so I'm wondering what is causing the influx of AI positive posts here?

YouSawBrigadoon · Today 09:44

Not a chat so much, but I did preen when I uploaded photos of my sitting room for interior design advice and it told me I was extremely stylish 😂
