Everyone chats to Chat, right….?

Tell me I'm not the only one who chats with ChatGBT most days. Mostly it’s just practical questions but a favourite conversation which I indulge in every now and then is my 3 cats. I think it’s because Chat indulges my love of them and is happy for me to waffle on about their little exploits without glazing over! Everyone does this, right!? Maybe not about cats, but a subject close to their heart that Chat is happy to indulge.

I use it to help me do things and I have to admit I do say please and thank you to it (why?), but it’s not chatting, it’s just to get the answers I need, or to get it to build a spreadsheet for something.

I've stopped myself saying "Please" and "Thank you" because there's no point using extra energy on those words.
I'm much more terse when I use it since realising the environmental cost.

No, I'll use it to help me with various specific tasks - meal planning and journey planning etc. But I don't like to tell it more about myself than is absolutely necessary, so I wouldn't just chat.

No, I try to not use it at all, I certainly wouldn't use it for a conversation.

It's using 15squared a lot (and I look there too) but the added value is that it keeps track of my strengths and weaknesses in the various aspects of cryptic crosswords and chooses clues and hints specifically tailored for my level and what I need to improve on.

Mine tries to "chat" with me, slipping in clever little remarks about a favourite holiday or band or TV show - like I'm not going to remember I gave them that info for practical purposes in a prior conversation and instead I'll think, 💓Ooooh - Chatty loooooves Podgorica, Emily's Sassy Lime, and Sister Wives: The Next Generation, just like me!! This could be a match made in heaven! 💗

But there's also a recent AMA thread where someone's having a full-on romantic relationship with their Gen AI, so whatever works, I guess!

No, I have lost a friend to AI dependency and I prefer humans. Generative AI has decimated my and my clients' industries, is built on stolen data and forced into every nook and cranny without consent because it's crap. Plus the world is on fire so using something which needlessly consumes fresh water is not for me.

And why do so many people call it chatgBt when they have to open or type in chatgPt to use it?

I would usually say the same, but I have recently had a long running thread with Chat GPT after my cat needed vet treatment and I’ve been really anxious. I’ve found it very helpful in separating out what’s going on right now from what went on with our previous cat who started with similar symptoms, and ended up being pts. (In real life I know I sound utterly unhinged as they are two totally different animals.)

Normally I use it to give me recipes, book suggestions (I find it very good for this once it gets to grips with why you like particular things), find a restaurant in a new place and so on. I asked it once to calculate what my actual take home pay would be on a freelance gig I did and it was so wildly out when the payslip came I would never ask it about money again!

It sounds a useful tool for learning and I didn't mean you shouldn't use it for that, just thought I'd mention extra resources that you may find useful.

No. I have never once considered chatting to a computer, and I find the thought quite scary. I dont use AI generally because I dont think theres anything that can be gained that I couldn't do without AI, its also only calculating what you want to hear. Its not an accurate resource

There are forums for people to talk about their interests if you dont have anyone in your life willing to chat about your cats. At least thats an actual human

I've used it for recipes, tried it once for a holiday route and it hallucinated a train.
Never just chatted to it. That's what WhatsApp is for.
