Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

We are here for all heat-related moaning, big and small. The spider issue is not a small one though. I hate spiders and I feel like there are more of them around than usual.

Yes, all moaning about heat here, big or small as @MotherofPearl says. I think one of my neighbours may have just lit a firepit and I’m about to go postal if so.

Re a good sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast is la Roche -Posay anthelios 50. Very lightweight. Currently on offer on lookfantastic.

Nice and pleasant/fairly cool at the moment. 15C... Gonna be 27C later! Think I best get out soon - to town - to get what I need, and get my daily walk out of the way.

I didn’t need the fan on for sleeping which is a plus but it’s got warmer

Thu and Fri were cooler for me, and I got so much done! Back again to sweltering now. I want to kill someone.

This hot weather isn't going to go away any time soon and we really need to be prepared for the impacts that's going to have on patients and staff and society at large.

I think we need a complete revamp.of our housing and buildings to deal with heatwaves.
The Tube is now a health hazard.

My elderly (mid 80’s) parents are excited to be going to the seaside on a day trip….. on Wednesday! When it’ll be 34(ish). When I suggested taking some extra drinks and a hat they spoke to me like I had suggested the most ridiculous thing ever. Why are elderly people so flipping stubborn!!

Love them dearly but oh my god they do my head in too.

Had aircon installed upstairs six months ago - best money I have ever saved and spent. Am peri-menopausal and my love of the heat has gone following night sweats and lack of sleep in the last couple of years. Currently downstairs with the cat in front of a fan happy that I won't be a sweaty, hot mess when I go to sleep later!!

Why would you be torn apart? of course finding the money will be tough.

Maybe because I proposed that there should be a scheme similar to Warm Homes for AC targeting new builds & social, plus incentives and discounts to retrofit older properties. A handful of people highlighted care homes and hospitals would be good use cases- my mind was blown to hear many hospitals don't have AC!! I think the objection was down to government subsidy and schemes (despite the fact this would open up a shit load of jobs and ultimately add skilled labour to the economy long term that I believe is only going to grow).

The excessive heat has made life feel like one great big bowl of mush. And it's completely messed up my back and legs. Herniated discs and associated nerve pain made worse by being much more static than usual. Its very painful and uncomfortable to sit down. Like sitting on chicken wire and its digging in. But that's all I feel like doing at present: sitting. Not eating properly; just want to eat rubbush. Completely lost interest in the garden. I have a big sprout pout going on and getting grumpier by the day. I want my life (and my back) back. Rant over.

@Poppy61 what is a sprout pout? Great big bowl of mush is a brilliant way to describe it. That’s how I feel about this total waste of summer.

I tried going for an evening walk and it was disgusting outside. It’s dry during the day, but the humidity rises rapidly in the evening.

You are so right about it being a wasted summer, I am longing for it to be over which is such a negative way to feel May to August used to be my favourite months and this year they have just been a struggle to survive. We have a gorgeous new baby in my family and I am fearful about the world he is growing up in. As it is the first few months of his life have been spent in this horrendous heat which is not good for such a tiny person.

@Lifeomars yes normally the spring is my absolute favourite but the summer goes quickly too

So we have to go straight from this into autumn/winter? So depressing! I’m supposed to have a few months of high energy and getting lots of stuff done.

As one of my neighbours said, if you’re sitting indoors with the curtains closed, it might as well be winter…

I’ve had to have my curtains closed all day and even now, it’s still 27c in my living room. I’ve never really been a fan of summer anyway but I just want it over now. September used to be nice for temperature then an ease into autumn/winter but not this year, I don’t think

I agree it has but we cant have a repeat of Covid where its just the "plebs" going without and celebs/politicians/RF ITV studios BBC etc cant possibly entertain it "because its work" Ppl wont put up with one rule for me and one rule for thee again.

This is why i fought to keep the emersion tank!

I am absolutely sick of having the curtains closed all day. I feel like I’m sitting in a dark, noisy (fans and portable air con) room for what seems like forever! Just want it to end!
