Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

It's bloody intolerable.

Still feeling deeply resentful! Where is my compensatory autumn and winter that my mental health and immune system so desperately needs?! Starting to sound bitter in real life too unfortunately when people complain of lack of rain etc “oh but at least they got their precious summer, what price the planet?”. And those saying it saves energy bills- not in our house it doesn’t! We are running air conditioning units constantly as well as the increased demand for showers.

the80sweregreat · 23/09/2026 12:35

It is warm for mid September. When I was a child the new term at school was colder and fresher than this.
Maybe early autumn will be like this from now on? I hope not , but it was warm like this last year too.

Zov · 23/09/2026 12:53

Temperature here right now is 16C, (North West Midlands,) but it feels more like 21C.

I have noticed that this year (and last year;) it seems to feel 4-6 degrees C warmer than it is. (Today, it's possibly because it's 88% humidity right now!) 😬

Yesterday was 24C in the afternoon, and it felt like 27-28C in the sun. DH mowed the lawns late morning - when it was 21C, and he nearly passed out from the heat and humidity!

21 degrees here, but 91% humidity. I can't cope with this, it's nearly October for fucks sake!
I feel absolutely cheated, we've just ensured the summer of shite and now we're not even getting a proper autumn.
It's really affecting my mental health, I know it sounds pathetic but I need cool, quiet, rain, darkness, that's what makes me happy.

friedaklein · 23/09/2026 16:24

I am on a bus right now in London, and rapidly turning into a puddle. So sick of this. What happened to autumn?

Lifeomars · 23/09/2026 18:02

I had hoped for a cooler September after about 12 weeks of almost nonstop shrieking from next door's 3 very young kids who play out on the street for about 4 hours in the evening. I really undestand that kids are noisy and I do like these children but had hoped to be getting some peace by now. But it is very warm still and they have been yelling since school ended so for over 2 hours now! We only have back yards so no real play space for them hence the running up and down on the street. Today's warm weather also brought out all the noisy adults (far more annoying than the kids as i think adults should know better than to make so much noise), car engines revving, sunroofs down, and music blaring. Had enough of summer noise now...

It doesn’t sound pathetic at all. Many of us on here have said we prefer (and need) autumn/cooler weather for our mental wellbeing. This just sucks.

Not least in my case because I’m desperate to shut out my antisocial neighbours and I’m not being ‘allowed’ to. This is usually the start of my more peaceful months.

I also want to get swapping and need to do some stuff to the flat before I start advertising and feel I can’t do that either. And time is limited because I’ll throw myself off the balcony before spending another summer here. Only half joking.

I really feel your pain. It’s awful. Hope they all go inside soon.

Thanks, the children finally went inside at around 8pm, so apart from a brief respite when i guess they were having their tea, they were outside yelling for around 4 hours! Thing is they are nice children, if they are out and about when i come home they run up to me, all smiles and questions about how am I and where have I been? and then they chat to me about school and stuff. mum and dad are very nice too so I feel a bit mean about wishing they'd just shut up!

JenniferBooth · 23/09/2026 22:29

Managed to get through to the HA today Part of the EPC is about get this...............drum roll..................providing a WARMER home. Yes thats right Turning this place into even more of a sealed box.

Cant have a draught.

But i need a bloody draught. It was nearly 40c in here over the summer.
DH and i have told them not interested unless it involves cooling this place down because that what it needs not warming up I suspected this was the motive

Have HAs and landlords not noticed summers are getting hotter oh no wait in that ITV News report i put up here a while ago the HA in question said "its only hot for a few days a year"

RhosynCymru · 24/09/2026 12:34

@JenniferBooth this persistent myth about “only a few hot days a year “ enrages me! They got their lousy non ending heat this year but will still complain it’s rare! Education in global warming is woefully inadequate and the ignorance frankly astounds and worries me.

JenniferBooth · 26/09/2026 23:35

FFS!!!!!!!!!!!

Housing association tenants may face disruption from upcoming energy efficiency upgrades, as providers work to meet the government's target of an EPC rating of C by 2030 (though sector predictions suggest full compliance may slip to 2032). 1, 2]

What Upgrades Mean for Tenants

  • Disruption at Home: Installation of insulation, new heating systems, double glazing, or low-carbon technologies (like smart meters or heat pumps) can cause noise, restricted access, and general upheaval.
  • Lower Energy Bills: Completed works aim to make homes warmer and cheaper to heat over the long term.
  • Timing Delays: Many housing associations are currently upgrading at a pace that risks missing the 2030 target, meaning works may be drawn out or rescheduled. 1, 2, 3, 4]

Labour scales back energy efficiency targets for England's social homes

It comes after councils and housing associations warned about the cost to implement new stricter standards.

@JenniferBooth i agree ffs! Are they deaf, are they not hearing that cooling is needed not even more heat introduced?! Unbelievable. What’s it going to take to educate these people?

This is happening near me and coincidentally I went and had a look to see what the signage said today as the noise has been pissing me off. I live in a mix of extremely affluent (private million pound houses/flats) and impoverished (HA shitholes that I’m sure were quite nice when they were built but are falling apart now due to neglect) housing. The whole of last year there were building works going on in one of the private areas and it was just so noisy. Anyway, blah. That’s what made me look.

So I went to read how long this would be and it said they were updating the exterior cladding due to fire safety regs and it would take until August of next year (which probably means at least December). During that time balcony access would be restricted with barriers placed on the doors to balconies to stop tenants opening them; and advising people to keep windows closed during building works to limit dust etc., from entering homes.

Oh and it also said they’d be distributing fans to help if it gets hot what with restricted balcony access - I mean, ffs!

I understand why they have to do this for safety but those people are going to boil if they don’t have aircon. And no doubt these shithole flats will be up for renovation soon enough.

Apparently the EPC involves them opening the loft hatch Could get interesting when the dust mixes with DHs COPD

ConstantlyFuriosa · 27/09/2026 18:47

Why aren't they upgrading with air con? Its insane.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 27/09/2026 18:49

Oh and the building they replaced the cladding on last year now has what looks like some kind if horrible gold/bronze METAL on the outside. Surely this would conduct heat when the sun hits it? Quite apart from fact it looks bloody awful.

JenniferBooth · 27/09/2026 18:56

The ppl who want to conduct this ridiculousness are owned by Mears Group Their trustpilot is fucking appalling
And i cant help noticing they didnt start asking for this till after the heatwaves were over
The fuckers know fine well how hot it gets in here so didnt want to do it over the summer

Oh Christ that will be unbearable

They are going to have to buck their ideas up cos by what im hearing next summer will be even worse.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 29/09/2026 10:26

Is anyone else in an area with a high of 25 today? I say ‘high’ but it’s making me feel extremely low. An unbearable overnight of 20 fucking degrees and it feels humid and damp.

I think I had one day last week where for a moment I thought it felt pleasant (it was at most 20 degrees outside) - except of course, I wished it had been no more than this for the last four months and it would now fuck right off.

Ive said before I live in a high density area and last weekend was unbearable with antisocial wankers. It’s never ending, this weekend is forecast to be ‘fine’ and dry which means more ASBO crap.

Sigh.
