Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

My fury is a mix of jealousy (probably) that their living quarters are cool enough to find this shit ‘glorious’, and mind-boggledom that they’re so fucking oblivious to climate change it beggars belief.

To add, my son has asked to go on a steam train for his birthday while we’re away. But steam trains aren’t allowed to run due to the fire risk. They might replace with diesel, but that’s not really the same is it?.

It really is, all a bit shite really. And, just to add insult to injury…. I am quite concerned about the water situation to be honest and no one seems to be talking about that!?

I've honestly never seen so many local burst pipes recently and on sm around me . One was by a South east water place !

We've been in a hose pipe ban for a while now so is it helping ? An update would be nice.

How much longer can we last without it ? I think it's very worrying and I was thinking today some sort of gov reassurance would be nice ??

Exactly! Has everyone got their “lala” ears on or are we just blissfully blundering into a very bad situation - who knows! I think some acknowledgment needs to happen (quite fast) really.

that episode is brilliant! I have watched that show too many times so I remember Bernard saying of his summer girl “she’ll have hair”…. at least I think he said that.

I was looking for a place to have a minor moan. I have read the thread and respect that you're all taking about the real matters of water, farming, the vulnerable, those working (bus, train, nhs, cooks, etc) in unreasonable conditions, and I whole heartedly agree with all of this. But can I complain about some very superficial things?

Owing to the windows being always open, my home is now the local spider refuge, currently supporting many species in all rooms of the house.

We live by the sea (South Coast) so the humidity is often high and we haven't had any of the rain, but our dehumidifiers create heat, so we can't use them.

I hate going out because the feel of sweat on my body and in my hair is unbearable once I return home, so I have to shower more often, washing my hair rediculously often or my scalp gets spotty and itchy, meaning constantly damp hair buns, more laundry, and most of my summer clothes have to be ironed, so I limit going out to once daily.

I think our local water supply must be quite shallow because it's still too warm even on the coldest setting.

When we get an electricity outage it triggers our stupid boiler to go full on, ignoring our settings - this can happen in the night and induces me with a kind of panic if I wake up to it.

And, the most superficial complaint of all - my skin is naturally very dry, but the thick balm cleansers and creams that I normally use make it feel like a sticky thick icing on top of a fatty cake in this weather. So I've had to switch to foamy cleanser and light lotion, and as a result I look like I've aged and my skin feels crunchy.

That's all. Back to the big issues!

We went to Rome September 2015 I think it was.. Supposed to be low 20s... It was 39° plus eleventh billion humidity, it was horrendous!?

I use an Olay spf face cream… does it moisturise … it makes me feel greasy (as do most spf products) but after having skin cancer I feel I really have to use something with spf in - everything I’ve used (cheap or expensive) makes me me feel like I’m applying standard factor 50 complete with that smeary look. But! Better safe than sorry?

Has anyone got any preferences re SPF face cream that doesn’t make you look like you’ve smeared white paint on your face?

@Thesquaregiraffe ,i use The Ordinary one but it's 45. It's like a thin oil feel, it is white but doesn't leave a white cast after a few seconds. In normal weather it soaks in, but in the heat it does leave a slippery feel and look.

Is that Olay? Or a different brand? I did try the Aldi one and that felt quite good but it made my eyes water all the time (which I hadn’t realised until using Olay)

@Thesquaregiraffe ,the brand is called The Ordinary. It's a really affordable skin care brand if it suits your skin.

I use Simple SPF 50, no white cast but lately it has started to sting and i do not have sensitive skin so on the look out for something else.

I was trying to quote your post on the previous thread and couldn't understand why it wasn't working then realised it was cos the thread wasn't accepting new posts. Doh! So anyway you asked whereabouts am I when it was raining a couple of days ago and it's the Midlands (Worcs). It only lasted a few mins and didn't do anything and now the forecast has the dreaded word Heatwave in it..again 😕

I religiously used Aldi spf face cream for a couple of years until my (lovely and thoughtful dad) bought me Olay and then I realised that my irritable eyes was the face cream! But, I actually really liked the Aldi one for my skin - just jot my eyes.

i think I need to go to Boots and get a couple of different ones to try - you’ve given me options so thank you!

With you on that! I lost it yesterday and ranted that I would be happy if I never saw that revolting sun ever again! And my week on holiday now ruined by it too! If there was any justice it would snow throughout November to March!
