Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

I live further North so haven't had the heat many of you describe. However realise that with global warming it is only a matter of time. I'm thinking of preps I can start now. (Can't afford AC). What, if anything, can I do to prep for the future?

Btw has anyone been swimming at a normal council pool in hot weather?

I imagining it would be pretty unpleasant because of all heating mechanisms needed for the pool itself. I've asked my neighbours but literally none of them use the local council pool.

If I could've prepped for this horror show, then I'd need to raise my VO2 max and be able to pass the test for the outdoor swimming place nearest to me. Literally going to put a note in my calendar for March next year. Though to be honest, I don't actually think I'll pass the test anyway 😳

@EmeraldRoulette our main problem is the heat in the bedroom, but we don't have a lot of free standing space for a mobile unit to go near the windows for the vent hose.

I just hope the reports of this heat continuing into September aren't true, as I think I may go doolally!

I’m sitting in a hospital bed that has blissfully cool air con after having lung surgery.
I’m not looking forward to going home tomorrow but at least the house isn’t too bad.
Just hoping everyone is wrong about this continuing for several months, my breathing is still not good but at least I have fans strategically positioned at home, mainly for the dogs’ benefits!

Are you ok @Tiddlywinks63 after surgery?

Now the drains, drips and cannulas are out it’s not too bad. The sickness was the worse because codeine doesn’t suit me at all - the morphine’s rather nice!

Today hasn't been too bad. It peaked out at 20 degrees C, and the windchill was 18-19C, although a bit humid earlier on. It's quite cool now. 15C right now.

Not gonna last though, seeing as the heat is back next week! 😖

I’m also in a crazy hot new build as I’ve wanged on about too many times. I just need something to give me hope as I can’t use portable air con. My windows are far too tricky.

Peaked at 21 here today. Wonderful. Back to 30s next week,

Just read yet another post talking about ‘the glorious summer we’re having’.

Where do these people live, igloos? And what about climate change! On a site with so many mums which means children and their future the mind boggles.

I think if I hear the word ‘glorious’ anywhere in any context from now on I’m going to scream.

@Lifeomars wholeheartedly agree about the weather media not taking it seriously! It’s actually insulting to those endangered by working in hot conditions.

Well I will accept everyone's thanks now, I have solved the bloody stupidly too hot weather issue, in the Midlands/South Staffs area anyway, For next 10 years at least weather will be freezing all summer because....
We're having Aircon fitted in 5 weeks.. 2 of those remote control things on the walls & a bloody huge thing on the wall out the back of the house... Consequently we won't be having more than a couple of days away next year & possibly the year after. But after 2018 summer seems to be OTT now. Has been ridiculous here since mid May.
At one point with 2 fans running curtains blinds drawn etc etc it was 30 in our lounge & 34 in the kitchen, due to huge windows, excellent insulation. It made me feel so ill & I was worried about the poor dog, who has cool blanket, cool bandana was going to overheat in the house. I took her & we both stood in the shower.

But now we have actually booked it, you just know it's going to cool down 😂

I can’t remember but it was on here. Not on a thread about the heat. Just someone chucked it into the conversation. I bet if we searched on ‘glorious’, though, it would come attached to ‘heat’, ‘summer’, ‘weather’, etc.

Does anyone think we’ve ‘beaten’ 1976 yet? And it struck me (although I’m certain it’s just a weird thing) that that was exactly 50 years ago!

19 degrees today where i am. have hoovered, done two loads of laundry and put some clean clothes away plus done a general tidy up all without sweat rolling off me and feeling as if i am going to melt. Then i cooked (yes cooked rather chucking salad stuff into a bowl) some chicken and rice and did not think I was going to pass out. It. I can form coherent thoughts and have read and properly understood my book. Back to the pits of hell next week, oh joy!

They did the weather forecast from a zoo and told us that the animals from really hot places have adapted and are sleeping in the day and how lovely it was for the rhinos as it was just like Africa!! Do they not get it that for England to be feeling like Africa is horrifying not a novelty news item.

Today wasn't too bad, house cooling down a bit. Must be the bricks that hold the heat so well. Cycle's going to start over again though by the weekend. 😧

I just groan at the forecast now or throw a soft cushion at the tv ( and miss)
Frustrated at the lack of rain and the temps going up again. It’s just so depressing and the dust and straw like grass is awful to see.
