Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

That’s been a big issue in my mental health- lack of sleep! Add that to being exhausted as I do a physical job and have been uncomfortably hot for months to the point of it almost being like chronic pain and it’s added to the depression.

Oh it can. Sadly.

'Indian summers' aren't a new thing, so I can imagine it will be even worse this year.

@JewelleryCat sadly I think we can kiss goodbye to seeing cooler weather until November. My mission is to try desperately to lose a stone and a half for next summer and keep it off so that it may help with the heat discomfort. The days of needing hearty food for warmth in winter are over.

Just checked local weather and after the glory of 19 degrees today it is going to steadily climb every day and will be 33 this time next week so that's an increase of 14 degrees over 7 days, it is so scary do not know how I am going to cope. It doesn't feel like living, more like surviving. I used to love summer, am now coming to terms with the fact that i am going to dread it now. I really worry for the next generation growing up in a society that is unwilling to confront what is happening. As it is much cooler today I feel that i need to be tackling everything that I have been putting off but do not want to go flat out as I am still knackered from weeks of poor sleep and being drained by the heat

The only good thing is that nights are drawing in so there’s less sun and more time to cool down

It’s going to get warmer at the weekend for my area, 26/27c and it’s about 17/18c today but the house hasn’t cooled down yet. It’s an older house so even though the house is painted white, thick walls retain the heat

This is it for me in a nutshell - getting proper sleep means you can face things. I can't get that sleep.

I live in the SE and know it will nearly always be the epicentre of the heatwaves so what has shocked me is how hot other parts away from the south have been getting and not just the occasional brief spike. That’s not normal is it? I was in Derbyshire recently for a few days and it was scorching, with everything parched and yellow

I am so jealous of everyone with summer sun. It's pissing it down and 16 degrees where I am. It makes me feel like not leaving the house.

Sadly long range forecasts seem to suggest a warm September and when it finally does cool it’ll be wet and windy “stressful “ weather. I’m very unlucky in that the only weather that makes me truly happy is cold and dry.

Pretty much what I said on the other thread, and every dystopian film predicts happening.

That’s in all the dystopian films too. Won’t affect the rich, flying around in their air conned private jets making the situation worse.

They can’t actually predict that far ahead, though. As much as I can see it happening I suggest we don’t panic.

Honestly I think the Met O should stop saying it's the 4th heatwave, or 5th heatwave. I know they have certain parameters that define a 'heatwave' in the UK but it just ramps up people's anxiety levels. It's a very hot summer and looks like that is set to continue this month.

I have quite a routine now of covering windows before the sun comes round, letting whatever cool air there is in at night etc. My body doesn't deal with the heat well and unfortunately the bedroom is the hottest room! Plus the continuous routine of constantly having to try to keep hydrated, and feeling hot and sticky!

I have a routine every summer because my flat retains heat (east/west facing large upstairs windows). It gets me down every year. This year, my life is on hold and all there is is The Heat Regime.

I’m so tired of it (and just physically tired too).

I shall do my absolute best to swap out of this hellhole over the cooler months. Hopefully to one of the ‘40 degrees is glorious crowd’. Bet they’d soon change their tune.

I've got the main ITV news on and they have just trailed the upcoming forecast "Those lazy hazy days of summer aren't over yet, another heatwave is on its way" i actually want to punch the weather guy, who the fuck is having "lazy days?" the NHS workers who are working in these conditons which are now rated as bad as the winter pressures? The poor souls in hospitality sweating it out in kitchens? the bus drivers who have been all but collaping as there is no AC in their cabs? The firefighters battling the wild fires that are wrecking the countryside and killing wildlife? Parents with young babies who cannot regulate their temperature? People with long term health conditions that are worse in this horrible heat? Is it too much to ask to have a balanced approach to what the country is facing...

If this goes on every year I think we'll move to Scotland ourselves. Or at least relocate for the summer. Luckily wfh. Would be lovely to go walking in our free time.

I am SO over this weather. I'm fed up of salads - even though they're in slightly different forms, there isn't a lot of variety protein-wise when you're vegetarian but can't eat eggs.

The worst thing for me is the sleeping situation. We have to have the windows open at night, but then it's too light and noisy in the bedroom. I'm averaging about 3 hours sleep a night, so I'm starting to feel very out of sorts!

We looked into the possibility of air con, but you have to have a two metre gap between properties (in our area at least), presumably because of the noise the outside mechanism makes. So we're looking at ceiling fans instead.

I didn't know that I don't think we can do that then we terraced. ..however .... I wonder if we got our loft boards and put one in there they may help 🤔

@LlamaDuke wouldn't a portable unit be better than ceiling fans?

I have quite high hopes for ceiling fans given they use them as standard in hot countries.

But hot countries presumably don't have the same kind of insulation we do? And all the other factors in a building in the UK.

maybe I shouldn't comment given that I'm in a crazy hot new build... but I've genuinely been surprised to see how many posters live in houses and can't get their houses to cool down - I thought houses would be better for a number of reasons.
