Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

It’s supposed to be a yellow warning for thunderstorms tomorrow and Thursday for me so we shall see

I am quietly confident for storms as I’ve got a nagging headache that I would normally get with a change of pressure. Obviously, this doesn’t necessarily mean rain… just thunder and lightning. And!! I don’t want lightning because everything is so flipping dry!

However, IF it does rain… watch out for a mad woman dancing in the street, waving her arms towards the sky and looking like she’s joined a weird cult. That would be me! 🤣

we have been given a storm warning which says that it will start at around 3 am on Wednesday 26th and that there will be very heavy rain but they have forecast this before and nothing happened. Much cooler here today and I feel far more like myself. I did go shopping in the local B and M and it was so hot that I was dripping with sweat and just wanted to run out. It must be horrible for the staff and i dread to think what it was like when we were experiencing temperatures in the 30's

Some employers treat their staff like utter shit. Glad the London bus drivers are striking over being treated like this

It was hot in rural North Essex (not where I live) today and it made me feel quite grumpy, just as I was getting used to lower temperatures again. And then - it was dark at 8.30. When did it start getting dark so early? And of course the temperature tumbled down and I had to put something warm on. Whoohoo

It’s meant to be hot in September I think. I hope it’s not too bad and I agree it gets darker much quicker now!
I think that it’s a shock to the system after so much light for months on end !

Been quite hot today, but bearable, more 'normal' summer heat. Not the death valley type temperatures we've been having... Topped out at 25C here, and I had a lovely trip to a nature reserve with DH. Covered half the time by trees which was a help, but even in the sun it was quite nice.

Can't believe the intense heat and humidity that we have had to endure this 3 months! Records broken all over the place! (Had a few showers over the last week but it's barely scratched the surface!)

And now we have thunderstorms due, and whilst the rain will be lovely, I reckon it will make it humid!

Feels humid again here and hoping I just get through midweek. I did find a Facebook page called Martin loves the weather, which gives a more balanced view of weather without trying to be click bait, and he often is pretty accurate and his take is that the heat next summer is being hyped up and he foresees a wet one next year. I can but hope…

We’re due storms and I’ve also got a headache. Im not convinced we’ll get one though.

Felt hot and stifling in the flat today and the bus was a mobile greenhouse. Rain i want but not the humidity that goes with it

I’ve just watched the Met Office on YouTube and I’m very disappointed. It doesn’t look like the south east will get much rain at all to be honest. And I’ve just checked the forecast and the storms have moved on a day to Thursday - I am not feeling at all hopeful now! And it’s so hot here tonight! Not a whiff of a breeze and currently about 28 in my bedroom. Im really so fed up with this now.

Thunderstorms used to clear the air. I remember years ago the relief they brought. I still don’t understand why they don’t anymore.

I remember that too And not that long ago either. I was walking out of our local Tesco in the summer of 2018 when a heatwave broke torrential rain came down plus thunder and it was colder by the time i got home

This. ^ It's way more humid than it used to be, even 10 years ago. Also, the summer heat we have had this year - and last really - has been more like desert heat, not just British summer heat. It's more intense and unbearable. 28C feels like 34C now, and when it was 34-35C the other week, it felt more like 40C.

And the humidity makes it uncomfortable, and unpleasant, and almost to the point where you can do little other than sit in the armchair in front of the fan. It's horrible for anyone who is in a workplace. I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home most of the time, (and only work part time anyway,) but DH does 3 days a week in the office one week and 4 the next, and it's not air conditioned. Working in the late 30s temperatures in July nearly killed him. He said it felt more like 42-43C.

Is there anything we can do to bring the humidity down?

If (God forbid) it does kill someone one day it will cost their employer ££££££££

So yesterday I said it was a beautiful day as rain was supposed to fall today. No rain. Boiling hot and humid. Ugh. I haven’t acclimatised I was just relieved it was going to be over, but it continues. ARGH.

Same here, we were supposed to have hours of rain last night but apart from a small trace of dampness around 6am to show there had been a few drops, there was nothing.

C'mon, this area has had rain once in the last four months!

We had rain this morning for about 2 hours (7am to 9am.) Was nice at the time, but it left us with 90% humidity, and a temperature of 20C at 9.15am. Went for a walk between 1pm and 2pm today, and it was 23C, but felt more like 27-28C. It was such a struggle that I cut it short. Was going to walk for an hour but came back after 40 minutes.

It is now 26C and 73% humidity. Feels more like 29-30C!

It’s all vile. And the temps are still all mid twenties for the foreseeable. Bloody 25 degrees full sunshine forecast on the 7th September. That’s not normal.

I’m not sure about the temperature outside but needed to put the fan on again after a few days break from it because it felt boiling inside
