Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

My son cleared and tidied my driveway and garden a couple of weeks ago (when we had a dip in the heat) and I noticed a weed had appeared in the block paving again yesterday! An actual green leafy weed! Whilst it was lovely see a bit of “green”, I had been enjoying my beautiful clear driveway! I need to put down some weed killer of some kind I think.

I can’t wait for some actual meaningful rain. I suspect that thunderstorms are the wrong kind of rain (typical) but some medium drizzle for a few days would just be lovely.

My house is still so flipping hot! I’ve got all the windows open and there is a breeze which is lovely. But every time I do something it just feels so stifling and hot again. The house is just not cooling down 😕

Disappointed? They should be delighted! I know I was this morning as it was torrential for about three hours! It was amazing and I’m hoping some of my garden plants will revive.

Had LOADS of rain today, the garden is loving it.

You need ceiling fans. They help no end and really aren't too expensive. But try to get good quality ones as far as possible, for quietness, effectiveness and reliability.

I saw on the news that this summer will be the hottest on record

Anyone else finding their home extremely clammy today?! I can't believe how damp it feels indoors, freakishly so. I've lived in this flat for 20 years and never known anything like it. I'm in the south-east, London. Walking on the carpets feels grim and everything feels like it has a layer of damp on it. I googled and it said don't have any windows open except between the very coolest hours, say 3 - 6am!

This year just keeps ramping up the tropical climate, which I wouldn't have a problem with if I was actually in the tropics where stuff is designed to cope. But where I actually live just isn't! 🏝️

@baroqueandblue I agree! I almost used the air con unit I have on dehumidifier mode to see if it would help clean up the air little in the upstairs of my house.

I’ve just checked the weather and it says it’s going to be 26 again at the weekend! 😕. My son said “oh it’s only 26 that’s not too bad”. In other years 26 would have felt really hot. Especially in the early autumn.

I'm already scared of what next summer will bring. We've caved in and ordered an air con machine. We can't really afford it but needs must as DH works from home and the heat was so bad in this new-build house he was hospitalised. So we have to do something.
My DF ordered an air con machine months ago. Amazon cancelled his order due to demand and he never received it.So it will be good if it does arrive in time for the next onslaught of heatwaves!
We did use the silver window blackout stuff which was very effective and much cheaper than air con.

Weirdly enough the extractor fan in the kitchen had come on by itself when I got up this morning and no cooking had taken place. It only does that if it’s ultra humid.

It’s a really stuffy night, tonight. No lower than 19 which means at least 5 degrees higher indoors. Then 26 on Sunday ffs!

GO AWAY HEAT. GIVE US AUTUMN.

I woke up at 4am, and was dripping with sweat (sorry TMI!) The back of my neck was damp, and my legs were sticky (like behind the knees IYSWIM.) And I had a sweaty forehead, and sweaty underboobs (TMI again sorry! 😬) Also had droplets of sweat running down my face. It was soooooo stuffy. I thought 'has someone cranked up the heating to 27C or something?!'

I got up to get a quick drink of water, and asked Alexa what's the temperature and what's the humidity? It was 17C, at 4am ... In September! AND 100% humidity!

No wonder I was so clammy and hot. It's 70% humidity now, and the ground is all wet from last night's downpours, and the extractors fans in the bathroom and kitchen are whirring away! I have a feeling it may be another sticky, clammy, very warm night! 🥵

Apart from all the heat, I just want it to be cool again so I can close my windows. The neighbours opposite are a fucking nightmare and have just given their kid a so noisy electric go kart after an entire summer of basketball bouncing. Give me (and the other neighbours) a fucking break!

It is pleasant outside actually. Went for a hour long walk this morning (around 10am) and it was OK. Bit humid maybe, but as it was only 18-19C it felt OK. When it was humid and 33-34C that was brutal!

Yeah, that's one of the worst things about summer (and having to have the windows open) the noise from outside! Some sounds are acceptable, but we have a couple of kids over the road who are really screechy and LOUD! One child is crying half the time, and their sibling is screaming loudly and angrily half the time... And also one of our neighbours smokes cannabis, so for around half of the summer months, we've had the stink of cannabis wafting in through the windows!

I’m not the moany neighbour from Hell, far from it. But Jesus, have a thought for everyone else in the heat.

This year alone: TVs seemingly outside they’ve been so loud; the horror of constant basketballs and now the go kart that is so loud it sounds like the dust cart/bin men. And yeah. The weed. The constant fucking weed.

I yearn for a] a time to close my windows and b) to live anywhere else but here.

I’d probably have dealt with the other stuff a lot better if my flat wasn’t like a furnace. I loathe it here. God, let me swap with a 40 degrees is awesome wanker,

And its like a fucking sauna in here AGAIN.

Mine too, @JenniferBooth . Even today my living room was so hot. It’s just never ending.

One good thing! Grass is so resilient, thank god. I’ve seen tufts growing on the scorched fields. The sight of a bit of green gladdened my heart, but we must have more rain!
