Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

Rain now stopped but, hey, we got ten minutes!

The forecasted rain and thunder have amounted to a few spots of wet stuff paired with a couple of distant rumbles. Horribly humid, my hair is wet and sweat is running down my face, beyond sick of it. Oh for a good old fashioned air clearing storm, some proper rain and that lovely clean fresh feeling when it is all over

Not a drop here despite being on a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms since 3am this morning

Thunderstorms here now. North West Midlands. Very little rain though.

Here in the Midlands last night the sky went a weird yellow colour and we had rain for 10 mins but nothing since. I was expecting to wake up to claps of thunder and torrential rain, even hail, but nope. The temp upstairs says 27. On the weather app it says rain all day but they're lying as usual. Twice i've cancelled plans due to threat of storms and flash flooding and nothing of the sort. Wtf is going on?!

So that has sort of changed a bit this morning...for the past 20 mins or so we've had some absolutely insane thunder going and very frequently....it honestly kinda sounds like bombs are going off all around me and even though I know it's happening, it literally keeps making me jump out of my skin....the thunder is like, almost deafeningly loud...it actually woke me up from my sleep 🥴. And as I came to the end of this post.... lightening too and finally.....rain!

We have also had quite heavy rain at last. There was a bit of lightening and thunder but nothing dramatic and then the rain but now it's easing off. Nothing like what you've had MoonlightMemories

We have rain! It's been going for about an hour and is nice and steady. I'd forgotten how lovely the smell is.

The rain has sadly stopped already and it looks like the storm is moving north but truly the thunder gave me an absolute fright of my life when it was happening...I don't really like loud noises anywa and I dread to think how many decibels that must have been!
I don't think I've ever heard it that loud before....it was like it was in the bedroom with.me!

Rain in London finally! I have gone out for a walk in it.
Finally cooking a curry today!

We had a trickle over night and this am a good strong ten mins whuch is more than we have had since June .
I'm hoping we get more later and tomorrow.

A good twenty minutes of rain! Thundered down for a bit but stopped now.

Been raining here now since about 7am. Had a couple of big loud thunderstorms between about 9am and 10am. All quiet on the western front at the moment, but it's still raining. Hooray! My lawns are already starting to look a bit greener.

Temperature: currently 17C. Humidity 99%! 😬

Raining here, and feels a bit fresher, the inane weather person on TV has just annouced "it was a disappointing start to the day this morning with heavy rain" what the hell is wrong with them? Crops have failed most of the country is in drought,; the reservoirs are low,; parksand gardens are like deserts but this desperately needed rain is "disappointing"!

The first decent rain in four months and it's 'disappointing'? Do these people ever get outside the city into farming country and actually look around themselves? It doesn't even look like the UK at the moment.

It’s enraging. Maybe the realisation of the catastrophe that was this summer will only sink in when food prices skyrocket (again).

There's a thunderstorm approaching now, hopefully it will bring more rain.

We had some rain this morning and I deliberately took longer to put the bins out to make the most of it. Had nothing since then though and no storms at all. Well, not yet anyway. We have been promised them though.

It was lovely to have some rain at last but now it's obviously pushed the humidity up A LOT....it's 23/24 but feels like 27 degrees again because the air is saturated....about 70-80% humidity (up from 40-50) in my flat....there is a slight breeze but suddenly it feels stifling again...

The weekend is looking... interesting in terms of potentially more rain and storms. God knows the country needs it.... everything might finally get some colour and life back to in it at long last!

I hope so! I went to one of my client's gardens earlier in the week just to see what had survived. He's plenty fit enough to do so, but doesn't do any watering at all and there's no shade in his garden either, so I've stayed away. Any watering I do myself would have dried up in minutes so I thought 'sod it'. It was surprising to see what was still alive; there was a lot of brown in the borders but a couple of things had pretty much shrugged off the heat and drought and were looking surprisingly good. The lawn was like walking on Rice Crispies, seriously crunchy.

The one positive from the gardens is that the drought and plants dying is a good opportunity for a re-think. It'll be interesting to see what nurseries are pushing next year. A run on lavender is probably on the cards.

No thunderstorm here. It probably won’t be coming but the rain was nice while it lasted
