Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Another twat on the telly "now we have had the rain and the gardens are looking lovely again" are they blind?

Zov · 21/08/2026 11:29

@Lifeomars well exactly! Gonna take a lot more than 2 days of chuffing rain to heal the gardens. My lawns are thankful for the rain, but they're about 5% 'healed.'

@Zov we are in the East Midlands and I am very warm all the time anyway so only start feeling cold around December it at all. Annoyingly I need to start losing what I call my “swelter weight “ over winter to be ready for next summer so may feel slightly colder later in the year but somehow doubt it.

We had rain yesterday, if you can call two 30-second light showers 'rain'. You could smell the petrichor for a few minutes before it dried up again. A wetter than usual autumn and winter would be just fine with me.

We've finally got some kind of semi-decent rain in my part of East Anglia tonight...not the kind that evaporates before it even hits the ground 😂

Edited

I’m on the North Norfolk coast, it’s cool and fresh and pouring down. Huge puddles! Bliss.

MoonlightMemories · 21/08/2026 21:25

I honestly had forgotten what proper rain sounded like...it felt like I never would again 🥴. Yes it's a bit colder now, but that's what blankets and thicker duvets are for....😍.

Lovely day today
About 20° sunny and fresh

No rain

We are building up to about 27 on Wednesday now. Still no chance for the flat to cool down. But thank goodness for some actual English summer days.

JewelleryCat · 21/08/2026 21:33

It’s 23 in my house for now, long may it continue and not get warmer. I’m actually comfortable and not needing the fan

Totally agree!! We got home yesterday and the house was still so hot that no covers were needed in bed. Today, and tonight have been very different - it feels cooler! Whohoo!

sadly I don’t think it will last but I am very grateful for the reprieve!

My last day of holiday today and I managed to play using the gaming laptop that kicks out a ton of heat! I actually feel like I’ve had a day off!! (I know that’s not everyone’s idea of a day off by the way).

ConstantlyFuriosa · 21/08/2026 22:34

It was beautiful today; properly fresh and autumnal. And now the next few days warming up again with 27 predicted in my area. Fuck this shit.

If that El Niño event next year is coming to pass I’m panic swapping to the coldest looking place that comes up. Dont even care if it’s a shithole - I’ll do it up! If this summer has taught me anything it’s that extreme heat is the worst possible thing about my particular environment. And I live surrounded by antisocial behaviour which worsens in summer, but the heat? The worst.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 21/08/2026 22:35

Managed to boil the kettle today - first time in about 4 months. First hot drink I’ve had all summer. Ridiculous.

MoonlightMemories · 22/08/2026 03:32

Unless I've got something to do or a place to be, I think I'm going to stop using forecast apps now...they were forecasting 27 for me in the East on Wednesday, now dropped down to 26 and with overnight temperatures of between 9-12 degrees, I really can't see it getting that warm again and it'll probably change the day before anyway 😂.

JenniferBooth · 22/08/2026 22:04

Been away since early Thursday morning. Just walked back into the shithole and the sweat is running through my scalp and on the rest of me already Staying at a friends cooler place was the only way i could eke out my blow dry (after having my roots done) and hair mask a bit longer without having to wash it too soon because of the Sanctuary sweat

Thesquaregiraffe · 24/08/2026 21:55

Much cooler here now thank god! But my loft is still so hot I can’t have anything other than a hot shower!!

everyone at work looked at me like I’d lost my mind when I said I’m done with summer! And, I just want to open the curtains to dark and cloudy skies. It still drives me mad that I open the curtains to “lovely sun!” - NO it’s not lovely! It can fucking do one now.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 25/08/2026 17:12

It’s 25 here and sunny and although my living room is still too hot, I was able to say ‘it’s a beautiful day’. Which surprised even me! I think a) because I know it’s supposed to rain tomorrow and 2)it’s later in the year so the sun is in a different position against my west-facing windows and sets earlier and iii) after that disgusting 4 months of heat horror, maybe I’ve become somewhat acclimatised.

Regardless, roll on autumn! And I am definitely going to try to swap out before next summer because I’m terrified of that El Niño event. And I think it would completely destroy what’s left of any decent mental health I have left after some very tough years.

Hope everyone else is getting some respite. Thanks to all for the threads and support. It’s helped enormously ❤️💐🙏

Handyweatherstation · 25/08/2026 17:24

Anyone else not had any rain yet? Our last proper rain was around June 22nd and even that was a blip after a very dry spell. It's getting desperate here.

JewelleryCat · 25/08/2026 17:28

I last had rain a couple of days ago. It’s a shame you haven’t had rain @Handyweatherstation

It's awful, I hate it. Everything is bone dry and the ground is like rock.

Thesquaregiraffe · 25/08/2026 17:49

I saw rain when travelling back from holiday last week but that’s been all there has been. I’m surprised more people are not talking about the lack of rain. Surely it’s going to become a problem soon if the heat/dry spell continues - especially in the south east.

DeerOhDear · 25/08/2026 17:52

@ConstantlyFuriosa it's not here today but no where as bad as it has been and we have thunder storm warnings for tonight. We still have not had any proper rain here we desperatly need a proper deluge !

However i feel like we are through the worst of the horror !!

But what the hell is coming next year? I'm really very different stuff about el nino and some reports say it will peak in November ?

And that for us if means storms and wet weather and not necessarily even hotter weather next year ( clasps at straws ).

DeerOhDear · 25/08/2026 17:53

@Thesquaregiraffe I know it's weird isn't it ?

Handyweatherstation · 25/08/2026 17:56

Re next year, this page looks at the possible impacts for Europe next year and it seems to be mainly about economic issues because produce will be even more expensive than it is now.

I would far rather have the storms and rain.

it says thunderstorms here tomorrow but I’ll believe it when I see it. Still not any significant rainfall and yes, the ground is bone dry.

Please rain, sky!
