Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

Another evening that's crawling slowly

I got some for all of about 10 minutes out of the blue and then it suddenly stopped. I think that's my area done for the day with it 🥴

I checked and lots of local weather stations have recorded 28 today

So I have no idea what to believe for the next few days.

There had better not be another bloody heatwave. It was ‘only’ supposed to be about 25 here today but my living room was still boiling. And I’ve been bitten by yet another mosquito. Argh!

This year has been so shit. Almost 4 months of not being able to do anything because of disgusting heat.

UK Hospitals Are Getting So Hot That Surgeries Are Getting Canceled and Staff Are Fainting | Frank Landymore, Futurism Hospitals in the UK are taking a beating from the relentless summer heat. As The Guardian reports, indoor temperatures at hospitals have reached more than 107 degrees Fahrenheit — causing surgeries to be cancelled and staff to faint. The temperature data comes via comes from a freedom of information request filed by the Liberal Democrats, a UK political party. During the month of July, the data also revealed, the average temperature at National Health Service wards across the country was a sweltering 81.9 degrees Fahrenheit — well past the NHS’s maximum safe temperature threshold of around 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius). Hospitals are getting so hot now, Lib Dems’ health spokesperson Helen Morgan told The Guardian, that they’re becoming “dangerously hostile environments for patents and healthcare workers.” According to the data, the hardest hit was the Northern Care Alliance NHS found trust, which runs four hospitals in Greater Manchester. One of these wards hit a record high of 41.8 degrees Celsius, or about 107.2 degrees Fahrenheit. These extreme temperatures are disrupting hospital operations in tangible ways. Per The Guardian, some are canceling surgeries because the operating rooms have become dangerously hot. Meanwhile, a nurse’s union says that some workers are collapsing while toiling in the “inhumane and impossible” conditions that the extreme temperatures create. That’s not all. In a survey of hospitals across the nation, the NHS Alliance found that some patients are cancelling their surgeries because it’s too hot to travel. And ambulance crews are struggling to store medications at the right temperature because their vehicles are getting so hot. Some of the hospital buildings are old, aren’t designed to handle heat waves, and don’t come with modern air conditioning. And for some of the ones that do have air conditioning, their units have failed because of the extreme heat. The Lib Dems are demanding the creation of a “NHS rapid adaptation unit” to heatproof hospitals, such as by installing air conditioning. “Overheating NHS hospitals are affecting the health and wellbeing of patients and staff and the temperatures we have seen repeatedly this summer show what an urgent issue this has become,” David Williams, the body’s deputy director of policy, told The Guardian. “A lack of investment in the NHS estate over many years has left crumbling buildings and dilapidated equipment in need of urgent repair.”

We’ve just had a little thunderstorm in north Norfolk, and an hour of heavy rain. I wanted a big thunderstorm, and torrential rain. It’s stopped now. Disappointed. Hopefully it was just a rehearsal for the main event, which can’t come soon enough. Still muggy. Still warmer than the weather forecast says it is. But a step in the right direction. Had my hair done today. My hairdresser says shes thinking of getting air con fitted in time for next summer possibly Jan/Feb when there isnt such a demand.

Was chatting to the taxi driver on the way home just making conversation "what for Its only needed for 3 weeks of the year"

Has anyone else noticed they never say the same thing about central heating even if the winter is really mild.
These heatwaves have dragged on a lot longer than three weeks but still......imagine the reaction if it was 3 weeks of snow.

Travelling home from Dorset to Sussex today and am not looking forward to the warmer temperatures once home. Apart from the first sweltering night in the new build Airbnb, it’s been a much more pleasant (anywhere between) 19-24 here - in part because of the more or less constant see breeze I think. We have had rain too. Home, however, my house is currently reading 25, but it’s early morning so should be cooler at the moment - once the sun moves round and hits the back of the house… all bets are off!

That was probably me! I’m stocky Welsh girl built for cold conditions! If I ever complain of being cold everyone knows I’m unwell! I’m usually warm in the coldest of weather.

@JenniferBooth ah the myth summer is “only a few days/weeks” and the winter sooo long! Our central heating didn’t get put on until November last year and by February didn’t need it. Our portable air conditioning units needed daily since mid May coating us more in energy in summer than “winter “ central heating.

Cooler here today and cloudy 22 degrees. It says rain all day from 9 - we've had about 5 min so far.

Despite rain being in the forecast several times in the last week, we've yet to see a drop. Surely we'll get some soon!

So true about the waste, feel that I have spent most of this hell of a summer just trying to get through each day. Disrupted sleep, problems with concentration, only able to use my kitchen early morning and late evening, ruined plants in my back yard, having to stay in during days of peak heat, feeling exhausted all the time. And i am so much luckier than many as I am thankfully retired. Friends who work are having a bad time in the heat. What disturbs me is that we will look back at 2026 and think it was just the start.

Yeah, I still found the tone of that ten day forecast too swayed in favour of bloody heat and sunshine. It’s insane.

Again, not a drop of rain today despite it being forecast....again 🙄.

I don’t think The met Office have cancelled the possibility but I didn’t read or listen extensively

How weird is thd UK. A few hundred miles away theres no rain and its still warm.
Here in Glasgow its been pouring off and on all day. Ive got my electric blanket on and am sitting in my fleecy dressing gown.

Good news is that my house seems to be cooling down so here’s hoping it’s the right direction and no more heatwaves

I don't know where you live, but I must admit we did still have the heating on til the end of April this year. (North West Midlands here,) and for a week or two in May too.

I don't think I've ever stopped using it in February. 😬 I mean, we have had several years when it's been warm-ish in February/March, but it's been cold at night as the sun is still in the southern hemisphere then. So we've had it on for an hour in the late evening, (in February and March.)

I do agree that summer is not just a few weeks though. It has been going on for 3-4 months this past few years. Really hot too!
