Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Did anyone else carry on feeling a bit ill today?

I have obviously worked, but it was a real struggle. The flat is still boiling though and it’s horrendously muggy outside.

We hit 28 in the shade today.

Same here, head hurts and feel bit ill. I’m in London and just went to grocery store, got back home and noticed I’m covered in sweat despite it only being 24c now

it’s weird because we’ve had much hotter days where I’ve not sweat as much as today ?? Is it more humid I don’t know

Also my flat temp was showing as 32c when I came in (10 mins ago)

Zov · 17/08/2026 20:33

Ooooh, we had almost 5 minutes of rain today. Whooop the droughts are cured and the grass is a shiny green!

Ha ha, NOT! Hmm

Come ONNNNN! We need some fecking rain. Proper heavy downpours, not 5 minutes of sprinkles. I had my washing out and the rain we had didn't even dampen it.

And it was 22C here today, but 80 to 85% humidity, and to be honest I struggled more today than I did when it was 29-30C last week and 12% humidity! I had sweat beads rolling down my face and neck (nice!) just taking out the green bin and recyclables! Made me feel a bit queasy to be honest.

The way things are going, we'll be needing a Heatwave Support Thread Part Four!!!

Sorry others are feeling a bit unwell

I didn’t think I was coming down with something. I thought it was just the general state of the atmosphere so to speak.

I’m not a sweaty person, but apparently that’s bad for you because it’s your cool down mechanism and mine doesn’t kick in as much as it should. I’ll grant you it makes life a lot easier in terms of having to go places and look normal!

I am a very sweaty person.
It's embarassing.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 17/08/2026 21:09

I’m finding I have to walk extremely slowly any time I’m outside for whatever reason or I’m a huge sweaty mess in minutes. It keeps threatening rain here but none so far. The weather gods have forsaken us.

baroqueandblue · 17/08/2026 21:11

I'm in London and I feel like there isn't enough oxygen in the air. I missed one of my buses on the way home from doing some shopping earlier, and on the walk I felt like I was breathing in dust rather than air. Sitting here with the windows wide open and the air is so still it's freaking me out. Even sitting right by the window, it feels like there's nothing to breathe in. Just bizarre. I'm depressed over this never-ending deprivation of a livable climate.

Maybe your body's just having to work much harder for everything that would usually require less energy? So you're sweating more because of all the extra effort, perhaps. Plus the humidity. Indoors is hotter than outdoors and the temperature is dropping at a snail's pace outdoors. Feels like a different planet this last 3 months, don't you think? I'm even starting to have crazy conspiracy theory thoughts about what's causing it (above and beyond the climate change crisis, which I will never deny)!

Anyway, I know it's a vain sort of hope, but I hope things cool down and get more comfortable for you very soon 💐

EmeraldRoulette · 17/08/2026 21:59

@baroqueandblue ”Feels like a different planet this last 3 months, don't you think?” Yes! I feel as if I’ve been dumped in a country that I wouldn’t visit.

JenniferBooth · 17/08/2026 22:08

Cant even take a shit without the sweat pouring off me so under water again. Will change the bath water so i can wash my hair yet again which im having to do every night. Air con fitted as standard would mean ppl would use less water to cool down which is what im having to do

Lifeomars · 17/08/2026 22:16

It's cooler here but humid and which i hate, the air feels grubby and stale. Sweating a lot, my hair got wet with sweat which I hate as it makes me feel grubby. Took the bin out this evening and three ( I counted!) drops of rain fell on my face, the sky clouded over and then...nothing. My house needs attention but I am going to take it steady.

Edited

Exactly how I feel! I did NOT sign up to live in a hot country which is what this has become!

the80sweregreat · 18/08/2026 10:48

It’s much hotter indoors than outdoors atm. Hardly any rain last night. We need a good downpour

the80sweregreat · 18/08/2026 10:49

It does feel different everywhere , I cant put my finger on it , but these hearwaves are just weird and unsettling

Handyweatherstation · 18/08/2026 11:00

My neighbour tells me it rained in the night but my weather station hasn't registered it. The last time I saw rain here, at the beginning of the month, we had 0.4mm. The rain prior to that was on the 22nd of June. We're forecast some tonight and I so hope it's not another false promise.

ImissSpangles · 18/08/2026 11:01

I've just taken the dog out for a walk, it was very grey and it had the feeling of a heavy downpour so I got a little bit excited hoping I would get caught out in it, I'm weird I know but I love rain. Took my brolly but it was just a weird sparse drizzle.

It felt quite a lot cooler but I'm roasting now I'm back indoors.

Hurry up autumn 🍁

MotherofPearl · 18/08/2026 12:46

Thinking of everyone on here still suffering with heat and waiting for rain.

Here in the NW it’s been raining on and off for two days (quite hard last night), and the temperature is down to a very bearable 20c. I can’t believe how this change has transformed how I feel, physically and mentally. I feel ‘normal’ again. I can think about cooking proper food and I’ve actually just put on a cardigan. Not even looked at a cardigan for about 4 months.

areshan · 18/08/2026 12:59

it rained for about an hour overnight. No evidence of rain this morning but I saw the rain on my ring doorbell and it was a beautiful sight to behold!

DeerOhDear · 18/08/2026 13:02

No rain again ,this am we had the merest brifest drizzle for less than a minute.

However stronger % of rain over night tonight so another day another rain dance.

Same here in East Sussex. I'm despairing 😟

EmeraldRoulette · 18/08/2026 14:14

Hot and muggy
no change until tomorrow, apparently - I really hope there is a change, it’s literally soup to breathe outside and inside is just a sauna.

And the 20° we had for Friday has disappeared.

Lifeomars · 18/08/2026 14:50

it rained late at night here, it was so strange to hear the sound of cars swishing through puddles and see water glistening under the lamp light. It almost felt like a dream. Humid here today, I changed the bed and did a general dust and tidy up (well done me!) in my bedroom and i was dripping with sweat when I had finished. Really looking forward to my lovely fresh bed tonight

MoonlightMemories · 18/08/2026 15:49

It rained lightly where I am for a few hours over night....the grass is looking slightly less yellow today as a result....and it's cooled down a bit and the wind has picked up. It's gotten sort of a bit grey outside and feels like there might finally be some proper rain on the way....there is some forecast for late tonight and the next 3 days so....fingers crossed!

JenniferBooth · 18/08/2026 19:25

Fucking place is unbearable. ....................oh well if my fridge freezer gives up and leaks into the flat below they only have themselves to blame.

I am so sorry you are going through such an awful time, I know the typed words of a stranger on the internet can't change things but I feel real anger on your behalf when I read your posts, what you are going through sounds truly dreadful
