Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Things I'm looking forward to once this bastard hot weather is over (hope to God it's soon - and we get some rain):
a. A home cooked roast dinner
b. Sleeping under a duvet
c. Getting rid of the constant buzzing in my ears left by having the fan on all day
d. Going out socially (I've been living in the semi-dark, and couldn't countenance getting dressed up and putting my face on)
e. Getting out in the FRESH air

What's everyone else looking forward to?

Cooking poached eggs on crumpets in my tiny, boiling hot kitchen. Been living on salad, sandwiches and things that take max 30 seconds in the microwave for months.

Oh, and I’d love a roast dinner.
sleeping with the full weight of my weighted blanket, and doors and windows closed against the constant neighbour noise and stench of weed.

DeerOhDear · 16/08/2026 07:26

For me right now once we get rain it's the worry gone.
The worry and weight of having to rely on neighbors and people walking by in the streets sensibilities has been awful. Ie not to do something stupid and start a fire.

JewelleryCat · 16/08/2026 09:40

I think it’s rained in my area and definitely feels fresher but have to wait for the house to cool down now which will take time

Zov · 16/08/2026 11:40

@LlamaDuke I am looking forward to being able to go out on some daytrips and walking around for much of the day, and not being stuck in the garden in the shade, struggling to put one foot in front of the other. Really missed it this summer, (my little daytrips,) as it's been too hot most of the time.

Gonna be cooler this week, but annoyingly we have the car in on Monday, a tradesman in on Tuesday, and then DH has the opticians in the middle of the day on Wednesday, so that's 3 days I can't go anywhere! then Thursday and Friday I'm working! Hmm

So by the time I'm free it will probably be bloomin' hot again!

Was listening to music through headphones. Only via a small mp3 player and the sweat was pouring off me. Had to get in the bath. Must be why loud music emanates from flats in the summer because headphones arent possible in sweattbuckets. So something else i cant do
Rent rebate???

Cooler here so i thought I would do laundry and a good tidy up but honestly I am still so tired so decided to just do a little. Neighbours' kids on both sides have been screaming on and off for most of the day and while i have sympathy for them and their parents I wish it would just pour with rain and everyone would go inside. i am sure the kids are knackered and overheated but I am tired of the noise

MoonlightMemories · 16/08/2026 18:31

It's far.nore comfortable a temperature today....my flat is still measuring about 24 degrees though and I had sweat pouring off me just doing the washing up earlier 🥴. Not a great deal of wind today which is obviously making it harder to get good airflow.

I just saw anything online that apparently water companies and Ofwat are considering introducing surge pricing for when there are droughts....so what, they put us on a hosepipe ban and we then have to pay more for less? Maybe if they actually fixed all the leaks and didn't keep paying their bosses and shareholders so much, they'd have plenty of money to spend on infrastructure/reservoirs etc!

And yet when it comes to taking to the streets its the issue of asylum seekers that gets people out and protesting not this

DeerOhDear · 16/08/2026 18:56

@MoonlightMemories if anything good comes out this horrendous summer I hope that the water regulator is tightened up and becomes better and also that water companies are held to far more account generally.

@Thesquaregiraffe I could've gone away this weekend just gone or the one before

The main reason I didn't was that I thought the risk of being in a very hot hotel room was just too high, because most places that I can easily get to for a weekend have been quite hot. And the buildings won't let go of heat even if it's cooled down outside by the time I get there.

Anyone who owns a home made of stone must be doing a roaring trade on Airbnb at the moment!

JenniferBooth · 15/08/2026 18:49

@EmeraldRoulette sorry you arent feeling well.

Bloody right ear is inflamed inside again which is how my double ear infection started.

I have this happen too every time it gets hot. Plus I have bad hay fever and nothing works. (Been to doctors over and over again about it!) Hope you're not in too much pain with yours.

BooseysMom · 16/08/2026 20:37

HI everyone, hope that things are slowly improving for you. This morning the weatherman on BBC said there won't be temperatures of 30 degrees again this year and I was actually almost crying with happiness and relief! Not sure how they can know this for sure but I'll take anything right now.

JenniferBooth · 16/08/2026 20:39

its still like a sauna in here Keep having to get in the bath and put my head under cold water.

I really hope this is true, it has been the most horrible and draining few months and while it will be a relief to not have those horrific hot days we have to face the prospect of future summers being even hotter

Middlemarch123 · 16/08/2026 20:46

So today isn’t as cool as the weather forecast said it would be.

We didn’t get the rain they forecast.

It was supposed to be under 22c it was much higher.

So tomorrow we should wake up to a heavy rain overnight which would according to the weather charts, have started two hours ago. It hasn’t. It’s horribly hot and humid.
I’ve not bothered checking tomorrow’s forecast. Better accuracy from reading my tarot cards…

Hang on in there lovelies x

Perhaps they know because it was el nino (clutches straw)

DeerOhDear · 16/08/2026 20:53

As awful as another heatwave maybe hopefully the fire risk will be gone at least and the days are getting much shorter.

The may/June temps with the sun blasting away until 10pm was BRUTAL.

Brutal !! And now this added fir risk is horrendous

JewelleryCat · 16/08/2026 21:44

I think I’m hearing rain! Not sure how long for but it’s nice hearing it

@Middlemarch123 I know you were joking about the tarot cards but if they could predict the weather, that’d be amazing lol

EmeraldRoulette · 16/08/2026 22:34

Sitting outside
it’s raining a tiny bit

LlamaDuke · 17/08/2026 08:00

Raining here this morning (Bath/Bristol area)! So grateful to see it - although it wasn't forecast by either the Met Office or BBC.

Lifeomars · 17/08/2026 10:02

Much cooler where i am, actually felt refreshed when I woke up and capable of reasoned thought. No sight of the promised rain and I still managed to feel enraged at a trailer for an item on This Morning " while you have been enjoying the sunshine, it hasn't been so good for the garden" WTF! Somepeople no longer have a home due to the wildfires, the toll on physical and mental health is immense, we may be facing food shortages and as for gardens, my little back yard has been wrecked. Anyway, I am going out today and looking forward to being able to breathe properly and not drip with sweat.

friedaklein · 17/08/2026 10:06

I feel like a watered plant! Walked over 30 k on the weekend, did a nice day trip and spent some quality time with DS and DH.
Have to catch up on all the emails I left unanswered last week but planning a walk tomorrow with a friend

EmeraldRoulette · 17/08/2026 10:07

27 today

don’t think I’ll have a lunchtime walk, but it’s getting hotter through the morning and then staying that way so I don’t know.

Flat is still boiling, obviously

ConstantlyFuriosa · 17/08/2026 10:11

Temps cooler here and thank heavens for clouds so the windows don’t heat up the greenhouse. But it’s still taking time to cool the place. The forecast is currently ok with low twenties (goodness me; I even used to fear these) and spots of rain, but no actual rain as yet.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 17/08/2026 10:13

Happy to be able to close the bloody upstairs windows because I’m in a high kids-populated area and it’s school holidays. I need some fucking peace.
