Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Doesnt anyone think there should be an automatic heat protocol that's entacted IMMEDIATLY in these conditions like : instant banning of disposable BBQ unless you are in a beach with sand or stones well away from grass erc.

Home bbq only with water and sand and not in built up areas.

All fags stumped out to the enth degree . All massive fines if you don't comply.

And advice on how to store flammable stuff safely.and so on.

I can't believe we are dithering and thinking about banning disposable BBQ ?

There should be a raft of measures and protocols that instantly kick on .

We have a grass verge between our flats and the pavement I hope ppl are careful with their fucking cigarettes

And should be easy to catch people flicking fag ends Ring doorbells The road opposite our flat is houses

You can smell the dry dust in the air. I wouldn’t even risk a proper BBQ at the moment let alone a disposable one. But rest assured there’s always one person that will. “Oh let’s just put it on the grass. It’ll be ok” 😡. Although I have to say I’ve not had that BBQ smell wafting through the window much at all this year.

I cant get hold of my elderly parents either this evening so now that’s worrying me too.

So triggered by the thread on the main board where posters are wishing for 6 more months of this because they live in Scotland, have a house with aircon and a pool or never have to take the Tube.

I feel your pain! What is wrong with people! I don’t think I’ve ever been so pleased to see the sodding sun set this evening just to get the temperature down a bit.

Also all the people saying " It's just summer".
This is not summer.

Today, nurses fainting in the heat

It has felt a very, very, very long day and its only 9pm.

I was going to link the Guardian report about nurses unions saying they are fainting , but I cba.

My dad was in hospital last July and August when we had the heatwave last year. He has, more than once this year, said he nearly lost his mind because there was no air and just one fan for a large room of four patients - he genuinely seemed confused at times.

I remember visiting and my son pushing my poor mum in her wheelchair up to the ward - it was sweltering!

Why hospitals don’t have air con is beyond me! Surely the comfort of their patients is paramount!

It is baffling why hospitals don’t have AC and I don’t think schools do either do they?

Doesnt an overheating hospital make infection control harder.

Yeah, there's more than one 'isn't this a lovely summer' thread right now. One has popped up on AIBU tonight. Like 'oh isn't a nice, fun, pleasant summer?' A few people are like 'what the F?' The OP seems completely baffled as to how tone deaf and batshit her thread is, what with all the suffering, deaths, fires, failed and ruined crops, people struggling to cool down in certain types of properties, forest fires, and strains on emergency services.

You couldn't make it up, honestly!

Well as they are feeling in a party mood perhaps they can put up the people who have lost their homes!!

I am getting increasingly angry with these people who cannot see or refuse to see beyond their suntan or barbecue with their “hotter the better “ mantra! If it was up to me they’d all be made to suffer just a few days of the illness I’ve had since May now with the lethargy, headaches, nausea and depression that summer brings me every year let alone the awful one this year

I posted it earlier. It’s shocking that hospital staff are having to work in these conditions, and obviously also terrible for patients.

It’s horrifying. The heatwaves this summer have been terrifying and should be a massive wake-up call to governments to take urgent climate action, but also enact measures to deal with the heat itself, including sorting out overheating buildings and banning not just disposable BBQs but anything that can cause fires. The fire back in July near me was caused by fireworks being let off in tinder dry moorland. All of these risks need to be addressed and measures taken to protect people, property and wildlife.

I think even in normal weather, driving a bus is a tough job! In this weather, it's just insupportable.

I have extended family all over the world- including in India, Singapore and hot regions of the US- and they are all astonished by the way heat is handled here.

My aunts live in India in temperatures of 40 without aircon, but their houses are designed to keep out the heat with ventilation, ceiling fans, big windows and greenery. And of course they have way more ventilation and aircon in hospitals, public transport, and schools.
