Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

@EmeraldRoulette we face southeast, there are windows at the front and patio doors opposite side. By keeping the front windows shut and curtains tightly drawn but leave the patio doors partially open as well as the door into the hallway, there’s a flow of air. The back of the house doesn’t get the sun until late afternoon.
I have a pedestal fan on one side of the room, a floor fan midway down the side wall so they’re at right angles to each other.
Somehow it seems to work!

The breathing in hot air is very uncomfortable for me too, I would never sit in a sauna either!

Watchoutforthedeer · 13/08/2026 13:58

I hate the heat, feel like I'm going to vomit.
Im WFH and totally miserable. I just want to go to bed.

Kepler22B · 13/08/2026 13:58

Officially 35 here. Feels hotter. I was outside this morning and have a headache now!

JenniferBooth · 13/08/2026 14:47

OMG overheating housing has just been on the ITV News. They interviewed a woman in an overheating bungalow. In the past she has been hospitalized due to the heat.
Her social housing provider wont consider air con because wait for it

Yes it is, and a fairly old one at that, but our unit is a fairly recent renovation within it. And I was doing loads of transfers between wards and physically heavy personal care all night....I might take one of my room temperature/humidity sensors in tonight....it surely can't be right that we're having to work in such conditions that are dehydrating me that badly and making me feel physically ill as a result!?

If it's the same tonight then I will be marching myself round to our maintenance office first thing in the morning and demanding that something be done about it....if I haven't collapsed or fainted from heat exhaustion before then!

Of course it's not right it's a diagrace for staff and patients.

What really upsets me is the the newer hospitals they don't have windows that open
I was in a newer wing sat under a blazing skylight and no air and no window or air con it's absoltuy dreadful.

When we can't get these basics in what hope.has the NHS or anyone in the UK got ?

How are heatwaves rare? I’ve been reading that the met office are saying this is going to be the hottest summer on record and every month so May, June, July and now August have had one day or more at 35c so that’s another record broken. 70% I think it is of the country in drought. Yorkshire and the North East got moved into prolonged dry weather a couple of days ago

JenniferBooth · 13/08/2026 15:37

Journalists and news outlets are happy to name water companies and others when they come out with excuses
But not housing associations. Why are they so protected?

Lifeomars · 13/08/2026 15:53

Weather man was on the lunchtime local news talking about "stable" temperatures fffs! I am starting to think that they deliberately coast over the hellish and dangerous impact of this relentless heat. I feel sick and dizzy, used to be such a summer person, it was my favourite season and now it feels as if i am just surviving not living

xabimunich3 · 13/08/2026 16:12

I've absolutely well and truly had enough of this now. I was in work this morning (thankfully only for a few hours), and now I've got a horrible banging headache and feel sick.
When is this shit going to end, and why is hardly anyone worried about it?!
Our local park is on fire now as well, because some arseholes have been messing about with a disposable barbecue. I need cool, rainy days before I go stark raving mad.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/08/2026 16:28

Meaco have pre order available for the heat/cool units if anyone is interested still.

RoxieLoxy · 13/08/2026 16:28

I would gladly take rain every day over this. I’m a bit odd as I love rain but honestly this heat is fucking unbearable. I’ve an awful headache and keep feeling lightheaded. How can anyone enjoy this?!!

Thanks @Sunshineandrainbow - do you know if this is a good make to get? I know it’s too late for now but I’d like to preorder one for next time. I really want something quiet though so it can stay on all night.

HappyToSeeSomeCloud · 13/08/2026 16:32

I'm done with it. We're fortunate enough to to have decent ac units in each room at home but as it's the school holidays we're out most days. But I'm fed up with thinking where to take the dcs where its not scorching hot and making us irritable. So today we've stayed in as I've had enough of it. I want a few weeks of rain !

JenniferBooth · 13/08/2026 16:32

Just had to go to the loo again Contractor coming on the 24th to check our capped gas. lets hope im not on the loo because of overheating in their shithole and am able to answer the door. stomach was ok the Monday just gone but they decided not to come after demanding i make myself available so if you are reading this Sanctuary.............YOUR OWN FAULT FUCKERS

Meaco is the best.

Do love how you said heat lovers can start their own thread made me chuckle. Anyway I hate the heat I really struggle. It makes me tired, groggy, dizzy and sick. I need to find a decent sun umbrella really. At this point I dont care if people stare

No idea. People do not believe it:
“it’s just summer get over it“,
“we are use to it where I live you’ll just have to get used to it too“,
“It’s raining where I live so I don’t care.

My near neighbour, who I really like and get on with, was out watering his front garden with a watering can and clearly does not believe there’s a problem. He said that the last drought was in 1976, it’s just summer and there’s nothing to worry about.

Head Bang. Head bang. It would really be good if the doubters could be the ones who get fried and the ones who believe in reality are spared, but unfortunately that’s not going to be the case. But I think we should be first in line when the standpipes become the norm.

You poor buggers. I hate the heat. Luckily I live in Glasgow. I went a walk at tea time and the cool wind was blowing a gale round me. And its been raining off and on.
The heat down sound horrifies me. It lasted here a wee while, thankfully not long.

My sympathies to you all.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
To be honest, if it weren’t for the newts, whom I love beyond reason, in my little tiny pond, that has to be regularly topped up, I would be migrating to Glasgow each summer. A good friend of mine lived there for a while and she was so happy that after years of trying, she became pregnant within a few months!

My continuing commiserations about the art school ☹️

Lentilcakes · 13/08/2026 16:53

I went out earlier - come in to the office w portable air con which is warm but bearable. When I was outside I felt like I was being roasted on a spit!

I have heard good things about them. I have preordered, would have preferred just cooling but felt I just had to go for it and have no heating upstairs so the heat might be good too.

Have to say I have 4 of the meaco fans and they are fantastic!

Today I survived the Tube- it was like the Black Hole of Calcutta- several pointless work meetings, and my annoying family. I even did a bit of thriving yesterday watching the eclipse.

Feel exhausted now, though. Can barely find the energy to take the bins out.
