Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Aww you have a cat. I had a tortoishell tabby cross. Unfortunately we had to have her PTS 10 years ago this October. She was my little sweetheart

That's the thing. As has been said, they promise certain temperatures, then it's 3-5 degrees C higher than predicted/promised most of the time.

I live in a flat so it’s irrelevant but the hose pipe ban would stop people doing that anyway?

I’m going to have to be a total anorak and look up the figures for 2022 at some point. I would’ve been on the Tube a lot. That may be the case that my pocket of London at the time wasn’t too bad.

@catspyjamas1 what would be the purpose of lying about the weather in the scenario? There seems to be different science various models. Lack of humans involved in interpreting doesn’t help.

Hello everyone, how are you all? I’m still awake - went to watch the eclipse with my son and a couple of his friends and got so hot walking back from the cricket pitch, it took me an hour to get to a point I could do something for dinner!

But, here I am! Now attempting to sleep through the noise of the portable air con.

When will it be October? … arrrghhh.

Nearly forgot to open the window overnight. That would have been a disaster!

Trying to sleep on foam mattress, in 29 degrees heat.

Can’t sleep, 19° here in the southwest and despite having the fan on, all windows open it’s horrible.
Today I’m planning to do absolutely nothing, I’m short of breath following surgery and it’s getting tedious.
i walked 100 yards yesterday and couldn’t talk when I got to the end, utterly ridiculous 🙄

I’m utterly dreading today as I know many of us are. See you on the other side of this ‘glorious’ day.

Mine hasn't been right for weeks with this weather, but I also havent been eating properly

Can't believe in a few hours it will be (at least) 11° hotter than it already is where I am (SE London). Like most people here I'm dreading the next 48 hours because the overnight temperatures don't look set to bring any respite. I've got some sort of virus which is messing with my breathing and that has been anxiety provoking this week, with it feeling so close all the time. I went round the block a couple of times yesterday evening to see how many people were gathering locally to watch the eclipse and it was exhausting! (And very underwhelming compared to the 1999 one!) Still, it was nice to feel part of something briefly.

Let's hope today and tomorrow are kinder than we're anticipating, although I know that's unlikely. My only consolation at this point is that like many of us I've been training for this for the last 3 months lol. Even so, the sun can do one now, there's no more piss to be taken 🤨

My night shift last night was horrendous....part way through it our lovely Aircon no longer was working and the heating was on in every bay absolutely full blast. I couldn't drink enough in the night to keep up with it.... constantly felt really, really thirsty....between going to work and coming home this morning I had peed 2 times in 14 hours, despite having drunk well over 2 litres of fluid in that time. I got home and actually started to feel quite physically ill from it. We don't need the heating on in this weather!! 😡😭

Yes it is, and a fairly old one at that, but our unit is a fairly recent renovation within it. And I was doing loads of transfers between wards and physically heavy personal care all night....I might take one of my room temperature/humidity sensors in tonight....it surely can't be right that we're having to work in such conditions that are dehydrating me that badly and making me feel physically ill as a result!?

If it's the same tonight then I will be marching myself round to our maintenance office first thing in the morning and demanding that something be done about it....if I haven't collapsed or fainted from heat exhaustion before then!

It claims to be 36 here but feels even hotter, tomorrow had been saying 22 and is now saying 30 with that wet stuff that our ancestors used to say fell from the sky, you know, the rain thing. So basically that means it is going to be far hotter than they orginally stated and no of course it won't rain. Sweat is rolling off me, my hair now resembles Robert Smith from the Cure (love him but do not especially want to look like him). I really feel for everybody having to work and travel in this, it is dangeous and a health risk

It was 19° here at 5am, it’s 36° with a high of 38° by 5pm. Thank goodness I seem to have mastered the knack of keeping the living room reasonably comfortable; it’s still 24° but with two fans we’re ok.

How did you manage that? You sound like you're near me by the way. Similar outlook for the day.

@MoonlightMemories you do an amazing job. Sorry to harp
on about this, but do you have some rehydration salts? Even if you are drinking enough, I think those are good And I always had them on office and Tube days. Probably in this summer I would have two a day if I was having to do that regularly.

Speaking of which...

There is a guy outside doing proper manual labour on a paving slab. He is humming a cheerful little ditty and is perfectly in tune. He is in a proper good mood. I'm glad. But I wish I was made like that!

I bet if I ventured outside, he would say "beautiful day, isn't it?"

I have realised I've only got eight months to work on my Fitness and my VO2 Max so that I don't have so many issues next year.

I lost some weight but it doesn't make a difference especially as I'm not a
sweaty person. For some reason, breathing in the hot humid air is the problem.

To be fair, I would never choose to go to a sauna. Not even on a winters day - If I have a cold, I don't want to breathe in steam. I wonder what that's about.

Another reason why I don't remember the last few years being hot summers

The last year that happened was 2018

Barely used any of the rest of the years

obviously, the flat was boiling, but the sun was nothing like it is now.
