Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

@EmeraldRoulette I have not heard the word vim for some time 😁.

Yes agree they seem to be able to move heaven and earth for what they want

Many many more burst pipes around me today.
It's bloody chaos and all the road chaos that ensues as well. With all the building we do need reassurance re how will these new homes get water and from where.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 13:42

Vim ! What a great word. I remember the white vim powder my mum bought for the bath too !

JenniferBooth · 12/08/2026 13:49

Sanctuary have demanded that i wait in again for them on the 19th despite not turning up on Monday Told them no. I have an appointment that day which i have booked a taxi for Im not being fucked around like that
they are now suppossed to be coming on the 24th and i have asked for a proper appointment time. Absolute fuckers

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 13:56

You know, even as I used the word, I wondered why I was using it…l I think I was going to say vim and vigour?

Anyway, we need to bring back vim… and I don’t mean this cleaning stuff that you mentioned 😂

As ever, it’s the ordinary people who are doing such an amazing job. When I got back yesterday, there was some water in the hallway. And the cleaners had been. Apparently they left the water there! How nice is that? I just found that out from my neighbours this morning, I thought it was one of them.

politicians do not seem to have this vim or this kindness.

in other news, I do worry that I’m a bit of a curse, in my old building we lost electricity and water quite a few times.

Lifeomars · 12/08/2026 13:56

Oh FFS! what is it with it these weather forcaster people, woman doing the forecast on ITV has just described today's temperatures as MILD, it's 35 degrees here today and she says it's MILD.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 14:02

Mild ! Lol
Its not mild here and tomorrow is the dreaded Thursday
Terrible Thursday

JenniferBooth · 12/08/2026 14:11

Mild? Bet she has air con

Zov · 12/08/2026 14:31

LOL at 35C being 'mild.' 17C is 'mild.'

Just met my friend for lunch and she's working in an air conditioned office, and she complained about how COLD it is. She came out and her hands were cool. Still, I bet some people would give their right arm for that air conditioning!!!

I think the eclipse is malfunctioning in Essex 😂 which makes sense because the sun has been stuck on “on” for months

I would unplug it at the back, but I can’t reach

lol! The sun has been awful this year. No off button or any rain :(

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 18:51

I’m not kidding, though it really is malfunctioning
There is literally no change over here? I don’t have any equipment but the light level is exactly the same?

The long walk is being delayed because it’s still boiling outside.

JenniferBooth · 12/08/2026 18:56

Im in North Essex and there is fuck all difference

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 19:05

It’s not been as hot today here !
Thank god

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 19:14

It’s been hotter than I expected today - 35 in a shady spot on the balcony according to the thermometer. I originally forgot to move it and it said 41.

20 minutes later than expected, we have what I would describe as a normal light level! Like this is what 7 pm in summer would normally look like? Before the Sun got stuck on “ on”. I’m just wandering around looking at how nice the light is and people probably think I’m nuts because I’m not looking at the sun with special glasses

Vim ! What a great word. I remember the white vim powder my mum bought for the bath too !

“Vim under the sink and both bars on”

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 19:46

vim. It’s a word that conquers up so much positivity

Lifeomars · 12/08/2026 19:58

I defrosted my freezer today, i have a technique which involves putting some very hot wated in each of the drawers, shutting the door and letting the steam soften all the ice. Then i get in there with a handheld steamer and aim it at the ice while chipping it off with a plastice spatula. No need for any of that today, just did the hot water thing for about 10 mins, left the door open and then sat and listened to the ice just dropping off. whole thing is done in record time, washed and dried the drawers, plugged it back in, all done in under 30 mins! Finally a benefit to this daily hell

JenniferBooth · 12/08/2026 20:21

Just ate a Magnum which cooled me down for 10 mins now full of sweat again Fucking place

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 20:22

@Lifeomars I wonder if I can do that while working tomorrow

i'm getting up early, because I suspect I'll be non-functioning by 4 pm (which should be my most productive time between four and six)

Good shout, thanks

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 20:29

My intended long walk was actually very short - it's just really hot out

Very annoying. Gonna be a rubbish night sleep I think tonight and tomorrow.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 20:31

I’m can’t believe it’s not hot here today
it will be tomorrow though

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 22:28

Revolting tropical night has kicked in

Everyone on their balconies desperate for some air.
