Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Funnily enough I came off the vulnerable register a while ago, doesn’t seem right to be on it (I was originally on it after spinal injury) but I would’ve got bottled water quicker I guess. I am now thinking that going out and buying enough will be quite difficult but I’m sure neighbours will help or I’ll have to get a delivery.

Anyway, I have some atm so that’s fine. Very annoying though. There’s been a sudden raft of issues in the local area so I’m quite worried about getting it back though.

I think maybe the block of flats as a whole will get priority. I’m not sure. But to be fair, that isn’t nice for people in houses. I don’t really know how they do their priority stuff to be honest.

@Greenleavesandsunshine happened to me at work a couple of times, I think the combination of hot flat, hot office and hot Tube commute was probably it because it hasn’t happened recently… famous last words. I really feel for you because you end up feeling ill for the rest of the day, don’t you?

I hope you’ve got some plans in place for Thursday. Do you have the rehydration sachets? Are you in the really hot bit like me?

I am with Thames Water and Southern Water - it’s a bit of a worry …. Hopefully you’ll at least get given some bottled water at least

@Hercy id get proper air con in a flash but we are in terraced houses and not the Two meter rule apart to install it

Looks like we better stay well hydrated, and in the shade, it's gonna be a tough week. 😬 It's possible that these temperatures will be 2-3 degrees C higher than 'advertised' too, as they have been the majority of the time over the past 3 months!

And I'm not convinced it will get cooler by Saturday. 3-4 days ago, they said it would be cooler by Thursday! A couple of days ago they said it would be cooler by Friday!

The reporting on this is absolutely moronic. I read a newspaper weather report yesterday about predictions of rain over the weekend and it actually said “the worst of the rain will be in Northern Ireland while other parts of the UK will escape with just a few drops.” The worst of the rain?!!!! Surely it’s the best of the rain at this point?!! I don’t think the parts of the UK suffering from severe drought want to “escape” the rain!

@EmeraldRoulettethat’s extremely worrying that you have no water. Surely that’s an emergency that needs to be addressed immediately?

I am not holding my breath because I gather they are dealing with much bigger problems in Essex? Our neighbour has just told me about her in-laws who are in another part of Essex and they haven’t had water for two days already and people on the priority register weren’t contacted anyway

i’m trying to stay calm about it because by the boiling hot day it will be really frustrating - well it will be frustrating long before then but the boiling hot day is what really worries me.

@DeerOhDear he did enjoy it and probably followed the storyline more than I did actually. I found it a bit too long and my concentration was beginning to go by the end of it. Definitely worth seeing though 😊 - I’d say IMAx helped.

Engineers were working on the burst main overnight - so in that way, yes they have addressed it immediately

The weekly online forcast that showed lower temperatures and rain for the weekend has now been revised, no rain (of course) and temperatures although lower than those we are currently facing are now showing as at least 3 degrees higher than yesterday's prediction. It feels never ending, twat weather man has just been on telly, talking about the "beautiful blue skies from dawn til dusk and the sunshine that means we will see lovely sunsets" Hey ho,the world is literally burning but look at the view!

Anyone going to try and look tomorrow at the eclipse which is happening?

Yes @Zov. The times I’ve googled are 6.12pm it starts, 7.09pm you can see the full totality and it finishes at 8.10pm for my area area. Your area might be a bit different in times

The level of crazy I’ve seen on here in the last 24 hours is way more than usual. It seems to be ramping up every day….

I'm currently on holiday in a hot country and the a/c is useless. Last night I soaked a towel with cold water, wrung it out, put it in the fridge for an hour then used it to sleep under. It mafe a huge difference for sleep. Just incase it helps anyone!

I’ve been a zealous weather watcher for 10 years now since I moved into this greenhouse. It took a few years to realise I had to get out and swapping isn’t that easy because you need to want what the other swapper is offering. Anyway, blah.

That’s how I know it’s bullshit when people wang on that we get a ‘few hot days in summer’. Oh now we don’t, we get loads; not like this year of hell, but in recent years we get much hotter weather than we used to.

Dreading Thursday. Need to know about it in adavance, though, to go through the overnight attempt to cool the place regime.

SIGH. 38 fucking degrees according to accuweather! BBC still has 35. The met is giving me 36. Great.
