Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Stick these grinning weather ppl in a room with people who have lost their home in a wildfire and see how long their grins last then!

This is how the so called gas safety check went today for a capped property.

Rang them at 2,30pm "yes the gas contractor is near to where you are and will be with you soon"
Rang them at 4pm "oh sorry its not on his list"
After sending me texts e mails and a letter making sure i am available for today. Demanding it!!! Fuckers.

I had a cool bath the other night, and I ran too much cold water and it was actually too cold! I felt guilty as I used quite a bit of water so spent ages taking a bucket up and downstairs to put on the garden! I counted 15 trips up and downstairs. I needed another bath after that I can tell you!

They told me that i wouldnt and that i wouldnt get a threatening letter but then they also said they were coming today and didnt so wont be holding my breath.

Well who would have thought it,? according to the telly weatherman the upcoming fifth heatwave is "good news for some". This after a news item on a new wildwire which has done so much damage that its estimated that the damaged woodland will take 20 years to recover and we are facing an amber health alert. FFS!!!Warm sunny weather especially in the school holidays is great, this oppressive heat which is killing people and wildlife , destroying parts of the countryside and bringing widespread drought is very bad news

God knows! it got worse when the actual forecast was delivered, one of the news readers remarked how nice it was 😦 described it as "toasty" Felt like punching the screen.

It’s not necessarily all it’s cracked up to be. My house is large, but it has so much glass that gets direct sun (front gets it in the morning, back gets it from early afternoon til sun down) it heats up like a greenhouse. Most rooms get to 30+ on a hot day and the top floor can easily reach 35. My main room is too big for a portable AC unit (yes I am very much aware that sounds very much like “my diamond shoes are too tight”)

and whilst having a pool is a lifesaver in this weather, I still have to get on with work and day-to-day life like everyone else, it’s not like I could spend all day in the pool. It’s also in direct sun for most of the day which gives me migraines (I know, wah wah wah)

that said, I appreciate my situation is night and day with someone living in a flat with insulating bricks, fire doors, windows that don’t open and all the rest of it. Of course I have it easier. Much easier. I’m not pretending for a second I don’t. but I am loathing this summer as much as anyone here. The relentlessness of it all. The impact on my health, mental and physical. The not being able to do what you want because it’s simply too hot. the anxiety for the future, for the vulnerable, for the animals. I just hate it and am pretty much on the precipice of a breakdown.

im not saying this to garner sympathy, just giving the perspective that not everyone with those things will be enjoying this weather.

i live in one of the flats you mention but i do get it. My DMs house is unbearable upstairs

35 fucking degrees where I am on Thursday. I’ve completely had enough of it now, even my sun worshipping dp has told me today that he is sick of it! Roll on winter.

But it's not too big for two air-conditioning units? Although I have to say if it's too big for a unit it does have to be absolutely massive. i'm wondering if you are looking at the official square meterage they put on those things. I would advise ignoring most of what they put on those things. Even if you can only create one section of the room that's got cold air coming into it - that would be totally worth it.

I actually tried to get one of the caravan units for my flat, but they were sold out and I wasn't hugely convinced by them anyway, to be honest. I will be looking in November for other things.

If you're in a house, you can get a cross breeze through and you do have the option of one room being cooler than the other, surely? And you can get more airflow through than those of us in flats?

I realised that smaller houses will be in a similar position to a lot of flats but there will be ways a big house can be improved in this situation because you actually have airflow?

also, can I come and use your pool at night, please? I'm another one who's stuck in a boiling flat at night. It won't let go of heat till October. And the way things are going this year, October is the norm, so I'm actually wondering if it's going to cool down before November now.

Opened windows now it's early evening and my arsehole of a neighbour has decided to jump start a car that been in his drive for ages and leave the engine idling. Fumes etc.

@hercy actually it looks like a 14,000 Btu unit will cover a huge room.

Obviously, you are better off getting a proper system installed, though. But even a 14,000 comes on wheels so you can roll it from one room into another.

Took my son out for food and then to the cinema to see Odyssey this afternoon. The restaurant was air conditioned and so was the cinema ….. not my favourite food and I get why it’s a great film but it felt very loooong to me - BUT!! It was cool in both places!

back home … 29 fucking degrees in my house because it had been shut up for 5 hours !! FFS!!!!

In other news, I have no water. Bummer. I have a feeling that's going to go on for a bit.

I live on the edge of a forest and I am really worried about wildfires. We are not all that far from the wildfires in Elbow Vale. People about 7 miles from me have been smelling smoke from it.

Youve got no water!?!? Thst is not good! Is anyone helping you at all? Is it your water provider? Urrragghh!

Anyone else a fainter? I live in the North west so not suffering as much as many of you but when we have 30+ days I’m having to take real care I don’t faint. I particularly struggle after eating, woozy head, slight nausea and those little lights that mean I’m about to go. Had to spend a few minutes lying down on benches recently.
