Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Zov · 05/08/2026 20:49

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

Seriously. Please don’t use that gaslighting word in any context near me or I will spontaneously combust from the heat attached. In my lexicon it’s now verboten.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 10/08/2026 01:50

So, those who are suffering. Take comfort in this. As of today, 10th August the sun rises and sets at 5.32am and 20.37. It takes at least 30-45mins past that to actually get light or dark.

But this time on the 22nd? Those times are 5.54 and 20.10.

The days are shortening, baby!

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 05:15

Even with shorter days , the temp is still
high outside at the moment and it will be like that this week too I think. I think this week will be hard to get through , but really hoping it cools down by next weekend and some rain. I heard 36 for Thursday . I am not happy at all ;(

ConstantlyFuriosa · 10/08/2026 09:18

I know. I’m just trying to get myself through it in any way possible or I’d hurl myself off the building.

Keep going, troops.

That helps, thank you.
Usually I enjoy the long evenings.
I need to plan for Thursday.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 10/08/2026 09:36

Yeah, Thursday is going to be tough. But we coped with it in July and the days were longer. We can do it.

I think my sudden cheerleading is down to my own need to get through it. I haven’t suddenly gone all Pollyanna Yay.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 10/08/2026 09:40

Some arsehole was burning waste which smelled like it included plastic last night. I seriously despise these people.

I get you.
I have scheduled some treats for myself. Art exhibitions- the Royal Academy summer show- and a music gig.
I need to fall back in love with London.

BooseysMom · 10/08/2026 11:03

I'm really fed up today. At work and my peri symptoms have really flared up with this heat. Not even one word from my manager, not even a good morning. Wish I could fly away!

I have been listening to " Psycho Killers' on repeat to stop.me killing my colleagues and boss.

The shortening days really do help, I find. Even if it’s just the mental reassurance that this awful summer is gradually drawing to a close.

I will celebrate when it finally properly rains here, and will be so glad to hear of rain elsewhere in the country, especially for those of you in London and the SE who I know are now beyond desperate.

Solidarity and strength to you all for the ghastly week ahead, especially Thursday. It will eventually be over.

I agree. The shortened days help a bit mentally anyway.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/08/2026 13:04

I haven't been on because my desperation is too much to be on here

But I thought I'd hop on and tell you

Do you all know that there is a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday evening? This will hopefully mean less time for the sun to heat our homes.

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 13:06

I’ve been trying to get some solar glasses. No luck
have to try the colinder or cardboard idea instead
Just to try and see the bastard thing obscured!

JenniferBooth · 10/08/2026 13:54

Just been told on another thread to just fit an electric shower over the bath This was AFTER i posted that this place is HA She even quoted that very post
Has anyone else noticed that the SH haters on here think you should be evicted if you break your tenancy agreement but they also want you to break that same tenancy agreement when it suits their agenda or their side of the argument

DepressedOfLewes · 10/08/2026 14:05

This summer has been truly awful. Two brief showers since early June. Thank God I'm with Southern Water which doesn't have a hosepipe ban. My poor garden would be dead otherwise. It's been a crap year for my veg garden, not even the tomatoes like it. The poor wildlife must be suffering. I've been filling up the 3 bird baths every day.

I've not been anywhere since late May other than the supermarket and a few quick early morning strolls before the bastard heat builds again. I'm sick of it...so so sick of it.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/08/2026 14:37

Back from a lovely cool holiday in Wales which had rain to a burning hot flat. Dreading Thursday.

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 14:42

It’s awful that we all know Thursday is going to be so bad. I wish they wouldn’t do long term weather forecasts, but I know that I don’t have to watch them or look it up! I’m my own worst enemy in that respect.

DeerOhDear · 10/08/2026 15:00

Its also a level results day on Thursday

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 15:02

I wish the youngsters well! They have a tough time of it.

DancingLions · 10/08/2026 15:17

I was away at the weekend. Slept in a tent and woke at 5:30 freezing! That was a novelty. Then in the afternoon, had a 1.5hr train journey back to London with broken air con on the train. That was hideous. The sweat was pouring off me. Then half hour tube, say no more.

It’s the relentlessness of it that’s really getting to me now. Feels like it will never end. I’m just counting down the days of August now.

I’m so sick of summer clothes. I want to wear socks and jumpers!

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 15:18

I hate to be negative, but I bet September won’t be as nice and rainy ajd colder as we are hoping for ! I really hope I’m wrong 😑..

Lifeomars · 10/08/2026 15:30

Just as well I was too hot to lose my temper when the grinning weatherman appeared on the telly saying we are having and "exceptional Summer" though I guess exceptional is quite an ambigous word as for many people it's exceptionally awful. So what have I managed to do today? I've had a cool bath, washed and deep conditoned my hair with an anti frizz treatment (it works for about 5 hours max), made breakfast , made a tuna salad for lunch (kitchen was boiling) and now need to brave the heat to put the bin out. What I really hate about the heat is even the smallest things take so much effort and I have no energy for stuff I need and want to do. It's as if life has been on hold for the past 4 months.
