Heatwave Support Thread Part Three.

Can't believe we even need a third thread. The summer heat really has been relentless hasn't it? Since mid May virtually, we have had unprecedented heat, 4-5 degrees Celsius hotter than predicted most of the time, high humidity, half the country in drought, constant record breaking temperatures, and 30 degrees Celsius or higher, on more days this summer than ANY other summer.

And there doesn't seem to be any end to it, anytime soon!

Some people are just about coping, and some people are really struggling, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Here's a thread where everyone can get together and have support each other.

By the way, as the poster who submitted the previous thread said... This is ONLY for those who hate this heat, and heatwaves, and struggle to sleep because it’s unbearable, struggle to be outside in it, and struggle with it inside their home too. And for those who feel ill from the heat.

People can come here for a moan .. hot weather lovers can start your own thread!

My weather app says it’s going to peak at 34 today - arggh! But at the moment there is cloud so, yes it’s hot, but the house doesn’t feel like some kind of cooking device. If the cloud clears… then it will heat up and be unbearable again.

So do I. I’m boiling a bit right now even with the fan on

These will be the same people who think a HA tenant whose gas is capped should still have a gas safety check (and yes we have to by law) but a home owner who has a gas supply and is using it is not compelled to have a gas safety check

My flat can often get around 5 degrees hotter inside… (tried window film, foil, curtains always drawn, fans, portable ac)
How do those claiming to love this relentless heatwave cope with living in a single aspect flat?

I have escaped the London heat for Dublin this week and it’s 19 degrees and glorious! I’m even wearing a sweatshirt! I went for a run this morning for the first time in months as it was finally cool enough for me. Back to London in a few days and I’m utterly dreading it.

@JenniferBooth homeowners don’t need checks for gas like a HA tenant? I’m very surprised, I would have thought anyone on gas should be checked because it’s so dangerous

@CP26 that sounds glorious! Is there any way to postpone coming back to London?

I am sliding into a black hole of depression. As black as the blackout curtains on all my windows.

I feel nauseous in this heat today and it’s only going to get worse this week. I was feeling so much better the last few days as it’s been so much cooler.

I might contact my MP about it because its ridiculous

Really? I won't believe it til I see it! We had that tiny bit last week then nothing. I remember last year whenever there was a heatwave it always finished with a lovely big storm but this summer feels very different.
We can smell smoke and a nasty chemical smell here. Apparently it's drifting across from a major fire in Wales 😔

Me too! Just have to keep supporting people on here. There isn’t much anyone can do sadly :(

31 here today with 35 predicted on Thursday. But yes, if there’s cloud it really helps because all the glass doesn’t heat up so much. Thank god the days are shortening by a couple of minutes each day.

They probably don’t. Airconned houses and workplaces, I’m sure.

Keep going, gang! After this week it surely can’t continue for that much longer? And remember those days are shortening.

Had an interesting conversation with a taxi driver last night. He lives in an HA bungalow Hes 76 (the same age as DH) His HA insisted on putting cavity wall insulation in He said it was like they had taken a mini machine gun to the house because of all the little holes

And now? the bungalow is like a greenhouse......his words!

I’m going away for 5 nights from next Saturday and where we’re going says it’s going to be 24/25 - that’s going to feel almost arctic compared this week here!

Its my sons birthday while we’re there and I had visions of all the icing melting on his cake and it a sliding into goopy mess (which it did one year). But! I have a slither of hope that it might just be a “nice” day. He’s asked to go on a steam train and of course those are not allowed to run - fire risk (completely understandable) but hopefully they’ll have diesel ones running instead.

It’s just shite all around basically - for all of us!!

Storms were glorious weren't they? all that drama of the thunder and lightning and then the rainfall followed by that fresh clean feeling in the air. These days it is warm and sticky, followed by boiling hot and oppressive as if we are trapped in a giant air fryer, then it goes back down to sweaty and clammy before ramping up to red hot again.

Just walked down stairs to force myself to eat something and I couldn’t work out why it felt so hot - like more hot than I would expect.

My lovely son had left the door open between the house and the conservatory. The conservatory door which was originally keeping air flowing had closed itself (probably some time ago).

Apparently, he hadn’t noticed!?!?!?

Well this house isn’t going to cool down any time soon so I will be completely confined to my bedroom with the portable air con for the foreseeable….

I remember i literally walked out of the door of Tesco when a summer heatwave in 2018 broke the rain came down ,it cooled right down and i got soaked. And it doesnt happen like that anymore This was only eight years ago. It shows how much has changed and how quickly

London is forecast 38° on Thursday. Holy hell. Bad enough in the NW at 33° but creeping up towards 40° is hell on earth. Friday cannot come soon enough, when it drops to mid 20s. I could weep.

Yes, the knock on economic effects of the heat are worrying. I also read that productivity has been affected (understandably, especially for people who have to work in non-AC environments as we’ve been saying on here). And that’s to say nothing of the economic impact of lost and damaged crops, which could run into billions. And yet there are still people who bang on about the “glorious summer.” It’s staggering.

I get angry about this “glorious “ nonsense: food shortages, illness, the inability of our infrastructure to deal with it and the sheer relentlessness of it are all far from “glorious.” I’m terrified how quickly this has become “normal “
