I'm worried about going away. I'm staying at a budget hotel. They don't serve food. I was thinking we can just eat out. But i didn't think it through and its to late now.

I can only eat grilled chicken, plain cod. Plain prawns and tuna steak.. protein yoghurts. Boild eggs strawberries doubt i will find them things. Even if i can they will likely be cooked on oils things and end up full of fat.

could you go to a supermarket and buy the things you need there?

KarcherK5 · Yesterday 19:52

Where are you going? If you start looking you may find some cafes nearby that will be ok for you. Or if you speak the local language (or use google translate) then they may be willing to adapt their normal menu for you?

Needmorelego · Yesterday 19:53

Could you buy (ready to eat) food from M+S or Tesco Express or whatever shop is near your hotel?
You can get boiled eggs, yogurt, strawberries etc as part of the meal deals in Tesco/Sainsbury's etc.

That is very restricted, although it's ingredients that all restaurants have and I'm sure they'd do it for you.

Do you enjoy eating out? A supermarket would be a better bet.

hugasaurus · Yesterday 19:54

Are you on a low-fat diet for gallstones or similar? I wouldn’t worry that much, I’m sure you can find some stuff you can eat and just eat around the bits you can’t. That’s what I did when eating out on a low-fat diet.

If not then just buy precooked chicken etc from a local supermarket and eat that?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · Yesterday 19:54

You must have realised your diet is extremely limited for eating out anywhere, including a hotel.

Where are you going?

Octavia64 · Yesterday 19:54

Supermarket to buy fruit and croissants etc for breakfast and hotel picnic dinner (we usually get bread and hummus and fresh fruit but you get what you want).

then it’s just lunch out

I don't know if there will be a fridge in the room.

Are you going to be staying in the UK? Could you call ahead and ask if there's a fridge?

hugasaurus · Yesterday 20:00

Fatpiggie · Yesterday 19:57

I don't know if there will be a fridge in the room.

You’ll just have to shop as and when you need in that case. If that’s really all you can eat then you’ll know that eating out isn’t really feasible. Can you switch to a cheap self-catering apartment with cooking facilities instead of a hotel?

BIWI · Yesterday 20:00

Do you eat like this because you have specific dietary needs, or are you just someone who doesn't like food?

I fear her username may be relevant to her views on food.

Well, yes, I did wonder but I thought it kinder not to comment on that!

Would it be at all possible to ask?

What do you usually do for food when you go on holiday?

Ask for one. Explain it's for specific dietary needs. Its never been an issue for me at all.

So you shop each day ?

OhBettyCalmDown · Yesterday 20:06

Can you take an electric coolbox / fridge?

Passthecake30 · Yesterday 20:06

I’m sure you can go and get a grilled chicken breast/pork chop/steak/fresh fish and undressed salad pretty much anywhere?

Needmorelego · Yesterday 20:08

I just googled out of curiosity.
You can get mini fridges for as little as £30.
(I am going on the assumption the OPs holiday is in the UK)

They are likely to cook in oil though aren't they? Cook chicken with skin on.

I hate eating out i really don't want to. But its difficult on holiday. And the eating out is meant to be part of the holiday. But it only just sunk in.

Is it your first holiday OP?

Octavia64 · Yesterday 20:15

Ok, so is there stuff in the supermarket you can eat?

on holiday we often popped into the shop on the way back to the hotel - if you are eating it shortly after you have bought it then protein yoghurts should be ok, strawberries you’ll be able to get.

if you want to keep stuff cool in the hotel room and don’t have a fridge then a pack of ice from the supermarket plus one of their insulated bags for frozen stuff is quite effective.

MrsMoastyToasty · Yesterday 20:16

Fatpiggie · Yesterday 20:11

I can't eat any of that.

@Fatpiggie do you mean you choose not to? Or is it on medical advice?
If its the former then it's not going to make much difference if you eat food cooked in oils for couple of days. We all need fat in our diet. Have a look at Mediterranean restaurants as they tend to use healthy oils like olive oil.
