I'm worried about going away. I'm staying at a budget hotel. They don't serve food. I was thinking we can just eat out. But i didn't think it through and its to late now.

I can only eat grilled chicken, plain cod. Plain prawns and tuna steak.. protein yoghurts. Boild eggs strawberries doubt i will find them things. Even if i can they will likely be cooked on oils things and end up full of fat.

Tuna in Cans would be good but maybe take a can opener if you’ve got a favourite one

Do people really boil eggs in hotel kettles?

Imagine the mess if one cracked. 🤢 Eggy tea.

Stay at home. Why waste your money if you are not prepared to enjoy the local cuisine?

My neighbour has a severely restricted diet due to medical issues, she has travelled the world in the past year, simply asking for eg plain chicken at restaurants.
In India she ate boiled eggs and rice for days.
Nowadays with google translate this should be easier?

Aluna · Yesterday 21:36

If you have a DD you need to get on top of your eating issues OP. Whether it’s AFRID, orthorexia, whatever. The fear of oil sounds like an ED - fear of food perceived as “fattening.

Huckleberries · Yesterday 21:36

I have a family member with similar dietary restrictions due to health problems

It's never been a problem if we ask a restaurant to grill some chicken or some cod without oil.

Given there is a co op near by not sure google translate would be needed!!

That, plus how I hear the mugs are cleaned, make me very glad I don’t drink tea in hotel rooms!!!

The OP appears to be holidaying in the UK so the "local cuisine" will be the same as home.
Not everyone "enjoys" food. For some it's just fuel.
I can think of much more interesting things to be doing on a holiday than eating out.

Desmondo2021 · Yesterday 21:44

This makes absolutely no sense. If it is as vital as you make out, that your diet is so very restricted then it would be at the forefront of your mind for every day of your life, home and away. It wouldnt 'just sink in'!

HollyhocksandPeons · Yesterday 21:45

Harking back to my student days and ghastly hotels I stayed in - once I travelled with a friend who could not live without boiled eggs. She always carried a tiny travel kettle in which she boiled one egg for herself - two eggs would not have fitted in. Just saying.

Fatpiggie · Yesterday 21:45

YourWildAmberSloth · Yesterday 21:33

Are there cooking facilities where you are staying? Otherwise not sure a Co-op on your doorstep is going to be much use.

I can get already cooked chicken. And protein yoghurt also strawberries oh and cooked eggs.

OK, I'll admit it, I'm hooked.
OP - is this a medical thing, a weight loss thing or ARFID?

Did you share a room ☹️

When you get there, check the opening times, just to not get cought. In some countries/areas Sundays are tricky.

Otherwise yes, a shop nearby helps a lot, at my most recent trip we didn't have a fridge, so we used local shop "as a fridge", meaning buying a small amount of food daily (or even more often).

I'm not under weight. My weight is average. DD eats well.

Have you always eaten like this OP? Just curious as it sounds really difficult.

godmum56 · Yesterday 21:57

but no answer as to why you can't eat stuff.......

MeridaBrave · Yesterday 21:59

Take a plug in mini fridge. I usually call and check there is a fridge before I book. Otherwise take protein powder and tins of tuna / other fish.

Because thats not what the thread is about. She isnt asking for dietary advice or medical advice or emotional support for anything. She is just wondering how to get those foods while away

Its now been answered.

BeNewTaupeBiscuit · Yesterday 21:59

If this is an ED, it will be really damaging for your daughter having to eat out with you whilst you only order drinks. I hope you get some help, if not only for you but for your daughter’s sake too
