Where is Greta and Just Stop Oil when half of Europe is burring?

Just that, really? Surely this would be the the right opportunity to actively campaign for something to be done about the climate change/ convert all non-believers? Where are these protesters, especially Saint Greta? Why they all gone quiet?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I read that Greta has selective mutism and only really speaks much when she feels it matters? In that case, it makes sense that she speaks on what she is currently 'feeling' in terms of issues. And face it, there's a lot of issues in the world that need attention!

I can totally understand how this works as I have a child with selective mutism. She can't speak in some situations but if she is worried about her dog, she'll be talking away to the vet about what is going on for her dog because it really matters to her.

I think we need to give Greta credit for the awareness she has raised. It can't have been easy for her. If she needed a break, to change focus, or has grown up to see how many issues there are in the world that need attention that are pulling her in different directions, then that's how it is. She's a human being, who is still very young, who will continue to grow and develop along her own lines and doesn't owe us a thing.

Anyway, Greta has been busy risking her life trying to stop genocide. The abuse she suffered in an Israeli prison has not been widely detailed. She has explained more eloquently than I can that her climate campaigning is part of her commitment to human beings, as is trying to stop the genocide. Of course the unfathomable amounts of ordinance used in Gaza has a significant effect on climate, as does the widespread uprooting of Olive trees in the West Bank.

So many people on here are saying Greta is above criticism because she is well known and I'm not. Always found this viewpoint odd.

Climate change is more important than 70 year old conflict that is unlikely to be resolved any time soon (and Greta is in no position to have any impact on it).

No-one is above criticism. I just find it hard to criticise a school girl (which she was at the time) who is passionate about a cause like climate. She was just a child. It also makes sense to me that a teenager grows and develops in different directions, even changing focus. That seems normal to me, so nothing to criticise.

Why not? Over the years, I had many people telling me "its not a climate change, its just weather" - guess what I'm telling them now? It does work.

Well maybe you are right. But I wish she stayed focused on the issue she started with. She was great at it and she had a voice that people listened to.

Remember what it was like to be young and feel like you could actually make a difference in the world? Maybe some retain that but I haven't. I just focus on making small micro differences in the lives of people I cross paths with.

Would you want your own 16 year old to be stuck on the thing they were focused on at 16 for the rest of their lives? Or would you expect to see them grow, develop and broaden their horizons?

I teach my DC about integrity, consistency and standing by what they believe in. So, for Greta, climate change was just a "phase"? I guess it makes sense.

Integrity can also mean changing your mind and course when presented with new information. Consistency can mean sticking to values, even if they change. I'm sure Greta cares about the environment, she's just also taken on other issues as well. I've known people who have taken up causes and given them so much, they've burned out and started to do something else. It doesn't detract from what they did at the time. Teenagers do go through phases, yes. It's normal.

When their ships were illegally boarded they had to try and protect themselves by destroying any data that could be used to coerce/intimidate/threaten them.

Greta inspired one of my kids to protest in Germany. Lots of schoolchildren attended.
Iirc DD ended up in a sleeping bag overnight in a car park 😬 Did it achieve much? It made headlines.
But until governments cop on (see what I did there?) with binding agreements and pledges they stick to, we are cooked.

Yeah it was filmed. When her flotilla got caught the first time, they chucked all their devices into the sea.

Shame on many of you, having a go at a young woman who has been roundly abused by the media but who has still been brave enough to stick up for her convictions …. what have any of you done recently?
