Where is Greta and Just Stop Oil when half of Europe is burring?

Just that, really? Surely this would be the the right opportunity to actively campaign for something to be done about the climate change/ convert all non-believers? Where are these protesters, especially Saint Greta? Why they all gone quiet?

When she was a kid passionate about climate change - well, I dont think that was ridiculous? She could have grown on that, studied, became a voice of reason, Instead, she is not part of the generic rent a mob occupied at every protest going. She is definitely has zero credibility now.

She is doing a degree in global development at Stockholm University so she is still ”growing on that”, although it’s broader than just climate change. I can’t quite believe you are complaining that someone who is just 23 and has raised so much awareness isn’t doing enough for the world.

Yes, I saw her being arrested a week or so ago. People scoff but at least she has the courage of her convictions.

The problem for me, is that I used to argue a lot with people saying she is a puppet and is doing stuff she is paid for. With her going from one protest to another on a wide variety of things it could look like that... However I personally think she is simply, as people above said, is fixating on various things and gets passionate about them to the point where she is prepared to risk her life for that.

But this kind of makes her less credible on the subjects she is protesting against.

Totally disagree, she's still active, still credible and not your employee

Are you saying that if the newspapers aren't reporting something it isn't happening? What a bizarre post.

Edited

Her degree must be very part time as she is constantly out protesting and being arrested.

On insta her main focus has been protesting against genocide but she did retweet/like a reel from climate justice organiser Mikaela Loach criticising Burnham's intentions to restart North Sea gas/oil drilling. That was as recent as 18th July and in it Ms Loach mentions the 2700 people dying in May/June in England and Wales alone from the heatwaves. Mikaela is 28.
It's neither her nor Greta's fault that noone is listening and they're sunbathing instead. 🤦🏻

Erm what's the point of protest if no one knows about it?

We are sunbathing here in the UK while Spain, Italy and France are burning ((

Why are you so invested in what Greta is doing? If you feel she's leaving a gap, you are welcome to go fill it.

This was not just about Greta, its about all climate change protesters we had everywhere just a while back. A lot of people on this thread got hooked on Greta because they still see her in a positive light, unlike Just Stop Oil.

Would be good if we could get away from getting personal and insulting. No, I'm not fixating on Greta. No, she is not my employee. No, I'm not a TRA (wtf again).

I'm sure they are out there doing their thing. Maybe just not getting the publicity they were?

I do feel like we need to push the agenda further. I feel frustrated, upset and terrified - I've seen videos of Palermo suburbs burning, and it brought tears to my eyes. I wish there was more activity from the climate protesters. They already have a base, they have a platform.

Greta’s busy with Gaza.

1dayatatime · Yesterday 21:59

Because "Just Stop Oil" is like 4 seasons out of date now. Greta moved on to last year's fashion of a keffiyeh and sailing around the Mediterranean in order to "break the blockade of Gaza " and bring food supplies (most of which they scoffed on the way).

She definitely missed a trick on all the publicity the Filton Four got by attacking an arms manufacturer along with seriously attacking a policewoman with a sledgehammer. So the latest news was that she was desperately trying to get herself arrested at a protest in Berlin against Rheimettal (a German arms manufacturer) but sadly failing.

It also seems that she tried to jump on the Indian Cockroach protest as well but predictably only after the actual protests in India had successfully finished.

Greta Thunberg Expresses Solidarity With Indian Students' Exam Protest

One of the most idiotic threads I’ve ever come across. Greta has done so much for the world. She’s just one person, she’s a human being and of course she isn’t perfect. There are so many other people to feel angry at/betrayed by.

As I said before, this is not about Greta, I'm sorry you are struggling with comprehension, thing probably do seem "idiotic" when you struggle to get the meaning of what you are reading.

Well this is fucking embarrassing.

Started a global movement, 4 times Nobel prize nominee, Time person of the year, one of Forbes 100 most powerful women all by the age of 23. Embarrassing is the last thing I would say she is.

She gets up the noses of certain people, Andrew Tate and Trump have both had a go at her so those here slating her are in good company.

Mt563 · Yesterday 22:04

I was in XR from the beginning. I don't fly, eat vegan, electric car, up l recycle, all the basic green shit. My job is climate change related too.

I'm tired. I thought when reality hit rich white nations, things might change. I was naive.

If this heat and these wildfires don't convince you of the reality of climate change, nothing I and my friends can do will.

If it does convince, please go out and protest yourself. We're still out there, doing what we can and we always need more people.

crackofdoom · Yesterday 22:04

localnotail · Yesterday 21:18

Well their inactivity now (when the world is actually burning) shows that their reasons for protesting were not related to the climate change in the slightest.

The government made it much more difficult to stage these kind of direct action protests without going to jail. Most people can't afford to go to prison (Although there are some brave young people and pensioners still going for it).

There are still quite a few "soft" protests, but these are more easily ignored by the media.

rahhhh · Yesterday 22:04

localnotail · Yesterday 21:38

Erm the protesters refer to it like that? Also wear watermelons and keffiyeh. Like its some sort of a fashion challenge.

They’re raising awareness of ethnic cleansing, and you’re ridiculing them?

THIS IS NOT ABOUT GRETA.

FFS so now I'm not a TRA but Trump and Tate supporter. Because I care aobut lack of action from the (formally) powerful climate change complainers when we have a massive disaster in Europe.

You do you, dear.
