Yes, advertising is very much targeted. Sites such as Facebook will show you stuff based on what you have searched for, and what your computer hears you talking about. (Yes, I'm certain that this is true.) While the Guardian and others are not personally tailoring their content to you, other websites are showing you their articles which they think you might "like".
More broadly, news outlets do tailor their content to what they believe the general public wants to hear.
As for dear Greta: I'm deeply cynical about her. I noticed that she went very silent in 2020, when the world was panicking about Covid: climate change had been displaced from "the fear of the day". She didn't even pop up like a jack-in-the-box to say "you see, it's not so bad when you can't fly, is it?" With my cynical head on, I suspect that there is an unseen Humphrey Appleby-like figure who tells her what to say, and when to say it, who right now is saying "it's not really the time to say anything, Greta". Ditto Phoebe Plummer (who threw the soup over the Sunflowers painting).
I was amused by a Dead Ringers sketch some years ago, when Jeremy Corbyn resigned, and decided to take a "period of reflection":
Corbyn's voicemail: "Please leave a message after the period of reflection".
Great: "Mr Corrrrbyn, it's Greta. For years, I have been spreading despair among young people, but you managed to spread despair among millions, in one night! How do you do it, Mr Corrrrbyn? Will you teach me?"
