I cut DH's hair. Clippers- No real skill required!

Mine is naturally curly and goes curlier in the rain. The hairdresser describes them as "chunky curls". She loves mullocking with them and is glad i don't want the straighteners.

Oioiqueen · 19/08/2026 17:57

@MewithME could you contact a mobile hairdresser and explain your requirements to them I.e not stimulating etc?

I go to a barbers now costs ยฃ14 and I go every 4/5 weeks and takes 15 minutes. Easy chit chat with the male barbers, no loud music and I'm back out. Should have gone short years ago, hairdressers were like torture for an hour at a time.

@Oioiqueen I had a mobile one but I didn't really like it. I don't think she was very good really though she was nice enough. DS has a mobile one and out of desperation I've emailed to ask if she can trim me and DS perhaps but she hasn't replied. I think I might just suck it up and try a salon because the back and forth of checking times available does my head in as well.

The other mobile ones have endless pictures of women with long wavy hair that all looks exactly the same and they're all fillers and lips and lashes and are not my thing.

I really am entering my hermit phase I think. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

But I do have to go back to work so I don't want to look totally gross!

Sadly only have DS at home with me and I am not letting him lose with it ๐Ÿ˜‚

To be fair to the woman quoting ยฃ150, she has a chronic illness herself so she shuts the whole salon so I can understand it but it'd be fine if I could just go and they had natural light and no awful music.

My hairdresser does talk a lot, and I don't find it relaxing or a treat at all. But at least I'm not really expected to reply and there's no music. Small mercies.

I was a bit harsh. I just can't get my head around the price. Especially if it's a regular 4-6 weeks cut. That would cost a fortune

Hope you find someone soon

TodayIsabetterone · 19/08/2026 20:57

I need the hairdressers tooโ€ฆ. And the optician, and the dental hygienist. ๐Ÿ™„ Oh and the surgery for another blood test. All on the list for when I can manage to sit upright in the various chairs without making the pain worse. I think it might be a while. Have got osteopath and physio booked in at least as they're needed more just now.

They do! Wish I was one of them! That would make life much easier.

Morning all, finally had rain overnight! Hope it helps the poor firefighters in my area that have been relentlessly tackling fires.

Car in the garage this morning and then it will mostly be a day at home doing bits and bobs. Need to change the bedding but dreading it. Wish I had a cleaner.

I think I remarked up thread I can ignore dust but having someone change the bed would be bliss!

It was quite cold in bed last night, I actually got up and found my electric hot water bottle.

Looks a bit less parched everywhere, hope there aren't any more fires. It's been so awful for people.

FuzzyPuffling · Yesterday 07:42

It must be getting cooler girl cat decided she wanted a cuddle at 3am. Thanks, girlcat!

I need to book the car in for an MOT. Despite having a lovely and very local garage, I hate it.

Have a good day, all.

Tiredandwired2 · Yesterday 07:55

That would be bliss @TeaAndStrumpets Changing the beds is one of the hardest tasks but clean sheets are sooo good.

@FuzzyPuffling I am the same with the garage. I found one I actually like and they seem very decent and only a 10 minute walk from my house but still hate doing it. It's also an unknown job so will be awaiting a call to let me know how much it will cost and if I can afford it

martha79 · Yesterday 08:44

It definitely felt cooler this morning. Tell me about your electric hot water bottle @TeaAndStrumpets! I've been looking at them as my new microwave came with some dire warnings about not putting wheat bags in it. And I have a one-cup kettle thing so filling a water one takes ages.

Slept a bit better last night - did gentle yoga then a bath before bed which I think helped. I reckon part of the problem is being so tense and I'm wondering about going for a massage, although last time I felt terrible for a few days afterwards. But there's a place five minutes walk away, with someone I know working there (she runs a fitness/ dance studio I used to go to, and I had some very cheap treatments from her while she was doing her sports massage training). And they do a 30 minute appointment, so maybe that would be OK?

A massage sounds wonderful! I'd go for it.

My electric hot water bottle is from Amazon, brand is Keplin but I think they all come out of the same factory in China. There's a gel inside. There is a covered socket and a charger that clips on. It takes about 5 minutes to get hot and then you unclip it. It does get VERY hot in my experience and is really heavy. No good for putting on your neck say, but fine for warming the bed or hugging (it has a cuddly cover) I am on my third one, they seem to last about a year. The first one just stopped working, the second one got too hot and started swelling (!) according to AI they can explode so if it goes rock hard put it outside! Despite the awful peril I bought a third one so I obviously like to live dangerously! About ยฃ14 as I recall.

I am surprised about the wheat pads though? I suppose it's only a theoretical risk but they have to warn you. Filling a normal hot water bottle can be dangerous, and I've had a few spring a leak.

martha79 · Yesterday 09:56

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets that's helpful. Microwave instructions say I would invalidate the warranty so I want to avoid wheat bags for the first year anyway!

danglethedingle · Yesterday 10:34

I had a wheat bag start smoldering in the microwave, I think its when they get a bit old and really dry from repeated heatings. I love a really hot hot water bottle, I find it really helps with the muscle spasms, so it may also have been a bit of pilot error. ๐Ÿ˜„

Still feeling not right, but I'm also at a complete loss as to what to have for dinner, so I think a mercy dash to the co-op for a pie or something might be in order. I've got runner beans in the garden, and some frozen mash stashed in the freezer. It might do me good to get out. I feel like a dying duck in a thunderstorm as my old Nan used to say.

Oioiqueen · Yesterday 11:22

@MewithME yes do not let your son loose with it.

CoffeeBeansGalore · Yesterday 11:24

Morning. Wet & 14โฐc here.
Lazy morning. Not yet dressed as will be having a shower once I've done all the bits that need doing.
New bread bin arriving today. The current one isn't big enough & ruddy dog is getting more adventurous in stealing bread products. So hopefully if everything is stored away she won't be able to help herself ๐Ÿคž.
Not enough room in cupboards hence countertop storage needed.

martha79 · Yesterday 11:39

Sorry you feel so rough @danglethedingle - pie for tea sounds excellent.

Right, massage is booked for next Friday which is the start of a week off work, I can just sleep over the weekend if I feel wobbly afterwards.

JewelleryCat · Yesterday 12:37

A massage next week sounds lovely @martha79

TodayIsabetterone · Yesterday 12:58

Massage sounds lovely @martha79 perhaps mention you might have a reaction afterwards so can they just go gently?

Sorry to those struggling today. Had a heavy rain shower though nothing compared to DD currently in Scotland who keeps sending me rain videos! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I told her to take a raincoat ๐Ÿ™„

Decorator here today. Dippy dog has been surprisingly okay, barked if he walks past the window understandably but even though she can hear noises upstairs occasionally, sheโ€™s been quite settled. Heโ€™s got the door shut and is fairly quiet so not too bad.

Tiredandwired2 · Yesterday 13:06

@danglethedingle hope you get something nice for dinner. Sorry your feeling rubbish.

@martha79 I have the same with massages but when I had a physio massage I had no horrible side effects. May be something to look into.

Garage called about the car it's it's costing lots of ๐Ÿ’ฐbut it needs to get done. I can't stay out of work much longer because life is too expensive but I know I will see a massive decline in my health when I return. My baseline is great now but that because I'm not working

TeaAndStrumpets · Yesterday 13:24

We were having dgd over this weekend but she's had a virus at nursery (Hand FootMouth) so I very selfishly said best not come. I do feel bad but just don't need anything else going on!

Interesting about the massage aftereffects, my osteopath treatment always affects me physically and mentally for a few days after. I wonder if releasing the tightness disturbs whatever made it tight in the first place. Or maybe I'm talking nonsense again!

Tiredandwired2 · Yesterday 13:38

Aww your poor DGD but makes sense for her to not come.

I think you could be onto something about disturbing the tightness. I have been looking at somatic therapy/release and if traumas stored in the muscles then maybe massage releases it but makes us feeling exhausted or in pain due to the sudden release of it all

Oioiqueen · Yesterday 13:49

@TeaAndStrumpets HFM is painful, DS picked it up in the first month of nursery. He was miserable and then passed it to me, gosh did I feel rotten with it.
