In yesterday’s Political Currency they said that apparently Starmer looked into changing the rules on what ex-PMs are entitled to on leaving office - the security, pension, stipend, etc. He wanted to make it that you needed to be in position for 2 years before you got everything. He decided against it in the end but the irony is if he had gone through with it he would have only just qualified for it himself.
As an aside, I didn’t know that it was Thatcher who introduced the stipend after being told that Harold Wilson was effectively broke.
The Cenotaph will be quite a sight in November with 9 ex PMs lined up next to Burnham!
